Are we all just one giant advertisement?

It doesn't have to :)

Makes me wonder though why it's only just occured to me that it could also be a car reference....perhaps i'm just more aeronautically minded....

If he is pimping anything it would be Macs :p:whatever: He should change is name to Mac Jagger :D haha

Or maybe it's a reference to the animal? Nahhh...that'd be way too crazy.

i'd say the majority of true bulk of marketing is somewhat subliminal or at least subconciously done/relevant

the true reasons behind why it's there isn't relevant, merely the end result.

yep, we are providing a free form of advertising another person's product.

more often than not though, these products are going to be already viewed by us no matter what...

there's only been one instance when i've personally gone out and bought a film based entirely on a 2 second avatar (but it was more like i saw the film and decided to see what the fuss was about since the avatar was rocking)

I get paid by Elisha to use her pic and sig :ninja: :hyper:

I'm wandering about the Hype the other day when I come across a poster (I forget who) with an avatar that features the movie Grindhouse in it. And I say to myself, "Hmm, that looks interesting. I might just go see that." Then it hits me, are we all just one giant free advertisement? While some posters here on the Hype have pretty original avatars, the majority have avatars with images of upcoming movies, music, and comic books. Even favorite celebrities. I ask you all, why do we do this? Is this secretly a way for the media to get free advertising across a wide range of people? Or is it just our way of expressing ourselves? Are we getting paid for this??

That's a great observation. And I try hard not to subscribe to it.

People who wear giant brand names all over their clothes annoy me.

They might as well be walking billboards.

Jag's avvy makes me want to persue the 'rent-a-big cat' business I wanted to start.

Seriously, though, it's the most hypnotic avatar on the Hype, if there were anyway he could get a company to somehow advertise using it, jag would be a millionaire.

Hahaha! Thanks, man. I found the full video somewhere on line and cropped it down to letterbox so all you could see what his eye for the most part and looped it so you could tell he was walking somewhere. I didn't film it, unfortunately.

I used to wear stuff with the company logo plastered on it, but not anymore. Guys that wear t-shirts advertsing random liquor, video games, etc. It may appear to just be blatant free advertising, but the wearer would never think of it that way.

this is why more sites and companies should offer avatars.

At least that's better than the morons who have a company name, or website plastered to their foreheads.
