Are we over spoiled, over-exposed, and expecting too much?

Do we just know too much???

I walked into Predator and The Matrix that way too. Didn't know anything abou them except the stars. Predator shocked me after the first 45 minutes and then now it's an Alien film. Dusk till Dawn too. I had no idea vampires were in it. Imagine the shock on my face. LOL I never saw a trailer for it before the film. Also why did they have to spoil T2 and let everyone know Arnie was gonna be a good guy. They should have saved that for a secret. There were enough action clips to make a trailer without exposing that. :(

That was one of my beefs for Ghost Rider - they showed just about every scene in the trailers so when the film arrived there were no surprises left.

Can you imagine how cool it would have been to see Carter Slade and the desert ride sequence for the first time in the movie?

Personally, I think as a general consensus, everyone is too hard on films. It's a piece of art created by many and should be enjoyed as that without involving any of your own desires for the film, because frankly, it's not yours or anybody's film.

If you're not into the film, great, don't watch it again but, these "It should of been this and it should have been that's" drive me bananas. That's just me though.

Y'know what a neat experiment? If the entire SHH community was given a comic-book property to make a movie. Say AQUAMAN for instance. The writer, director, editor, producer and everyone to the damn caterer would be a fan of the character or comic-book movies in general. I think it would be an enlightening experiece to try and put together a film. Of course, it would fail miserably since I'm sure half of the people here think they have the "definitive vision" of an Aquaman film.

But anyway, when it comes to GR, it deserves every piece of criticism it gets.

I think the evidence portrayed in this very SHH site is enough to confirm that such a movie would never, nor could ever be made - the differences of opinion are so mind numbingly vast, even between the faithful.

eh, throw in the words "grim and gritty" every once and a while and heads will nod. :o

Getting back to AD's original post, he has a very valid point. I recall going to see some movie with the guys I worked with in London (which they were raving about) and knew absolutely squat about it - seeing "The Matrix" like that just blew my mind!
I cant say that I went into GR that way, though my expectations of this movie were so low that after seeing it I was pleasantly surprized. I dont think it was in the Matrix league but I was entertained for 2 hours.

Just my 2 cents.

Neat. I seen the Matrix that was as well. I didn't want the freakin' thing to end. Blown away is an understatment to the max.

My girlfriend went with me and this girl knows NOTHING about not only Ghost Rider but has no connection to comics either. Also, she's not generally fond of action/adventure movies but, she genially enjoyed the film. She was totally expecting to hate every minute of it (and only went because she knew how important it was to me) but walked out of there with a smile on her face, having just sat through a very fun couple of hours.

To me, that says something.

Yes, people who dislike comics, and usually accept whatver form of entertainment that tv and radio gives them are really enjoying Ghost Rider.

It says a lot actually.

Actually, this girl is more of a reader. She doesn't watch TV and only goes to the movies a couple of times a year (before she met me). She enjoyed it because it was fun.

It says your girlfriend liked the movie. Nothing else. There´s no "proof" a movie is good or not, it´s up to each person. We can love or hate any movie, and any movie will have its share of lovers and haters.

I think one of the major problems is that the industry is run by corporate interest instead of it being artist getting together and sharing their vision.
Most of what comes out of hollywood is pure crap, remakes gallore, rehashed ideas, movies with zero character, it's a big suckfest.
Sure there is the advantage of huge budgets, but directors are told what to craft according to some crap projections. So they take a movie like GR, and say focus on the humour, stray away from too many subtle comic references, widen the characters appeal.
Then you end up with a movie with a movie like we have. Doesn't help when the writer and director doesn't have their head on straight either.

I gotta defend MSJ on this one - he did allow the artists more creative input on this movie than most directors would ever dream of and judging by the quality of the FX, it worked.

I concur, completely.

LOL and you think alot of people didn't complain about the Thing in FF? You have to go into Superhero movies with an open mind, other wise you're going to be disapointed.

Thats too hard for alot of people and I would alot of people here. They can just see a superhero film. They disect it and that takes away for trying to just have fun seeing a movie.

I dont walk in wanting to dissect it...I have actually liked for one reason or another most of the films that have come out in the current crop. Daredevil was a decent popcorn movie, Hulk had some cool scenes and at least tried to make it look like a comic (though the panels often distracted from the movie). Elektra sucked..come to think of it...ghost Rider is the only one besides Elektra that I havent found SOMETHING to like...I hated the X3 was so silly and missed so many opportunities, but it had some cool scenes...GR and Elektra are the only two that I feel are a complete waste of time.

And you're entitled to that opinion. I would in no way, personally, put GR in the same league as Elektra though. That's just harsh.

I do, going back to the topic at hand, wish I didn't see as much as did before I did. I think even if I hadn't of watched those clips that were released, it would have made a difference.

Silly Steve, Clips are for kids.

Glad I resisted the urge to peek.

Does anyone think they gave too much away in the trailers?

I definitely was WAY too spoiled for X3 and my expectations were too high, this definitely had an impact on my opinion of the movie. I was initially a bit disappointed with the movie, I knew everything that was gonna happen and stuff we were promised (seninels, Angel fighting etc.) didn't appear. I enjoyed it more the second time and then appreciated it much more for what it was when I got it on DVD, as more time had passed. If I had known nothing/little about the movie, as was the case with X2, I know I would have enjoyed it more the first time though.

Not really. There is alot more to the film that what's in the trailers. You get a very good idea what to expect tho from the trailers.

Ha ha - the wife and daughter came with just for support - they REALLY didnt want to go - but really loved it. I was AMAZED! I knew my son was gonna dig it - he's as into bikes as his old man is, but the girls??? Wife has even seen it again since.....:wow:

Yeah - I was bummed they showed the desert ride in trailers. I think the audience would have gone nuts if they'd seen that for the first time in the movie.

I have to agree. That scene was so visually stunning that they really should have saved it. Of course, because of it's stunning visuals, I can see why they wanted to use it as a promo tool.

It's really awesome to see audiences digging this movie though, especially when it's coming from people who wouldn't normally like a movie like this. Great stuff!
