Is that the one where they take on Worf's command ship?

yeah, it's sick! It's always fun when the captain is like "I'll do the driving from here" and does something amazing... like in Booby Trap, like my all time favorite epi of TNG.

If they had double dipped, and integrated some of those shots into Way of the Warrior, it would have been awesome.

I think that's also the one when Smilie says something like "Right. Pattern Suicide." I remember that cracking me up to no end.

So, pretty much every night after a shower I'll sit down and watch an ep of TNG. It's amazing how much the series has changed during the pre-beard Riker and the post-beard Riker seasons. (yes, I've seperated the series based on Rikers beard) The whole feel of the show is different. The clean shaven Riker seasons are very much closer to the classic series in terms of tone.

The bearded Riker seasons are a bit more serious, less corny and I found the characters to be a lot stronger. Over-all, I prefer bearded Riker TNG...but the pre-beard Riker TNG is still fun too.

Spike channel has started rerunning VOYAGER episodes again.

Yeah, I actually set Voyager in my timers for DVR....watched a couple episodes, cringed and then deleted the timer.

I....just can't do it.

yeah, the beard, and the back zip 2 part uniforms came hand in hand (instead of lycra for everybody). There was a definite change in the approach to the show after that change.

there is the same sort of thing with episodes after Deanna Troi starts wearing her uniform aswell.

Season 1 was plagued by a revolving door or writers. Combine that with the actors, directors, producers, and anyone else you can think of trying to figure out the show's tone, and it's no wonder it's such a weak season.

But, yeah, every Trek spinoff takes until season 3 to hit it's stride.

It was FIVE YEARS INTO TNG before I could watch most episodes w/o cringing.

Meh,.. it became 100% better by season three.

(Ship shudders from weapons fire) "Captain I sense Hostility"
They took joy in making her meat for men.

Voyager got a lot better as it went on.
Here here,... I enjoyed voyager overall more than I did next gen. (how hard was that.)
indeed, like all trek series, it took 2-3 years to settle in... but will say it felt like they lowered their standards for casting when it came to voyager
ouch,.. I thought they did okay considering,...

Last few weeks I've rediscovered all the TNG era treks while surfing the UK channels (Easter Holidays = TV catch up time), and it's re-affirmed my love of DS9.

For some reason, I never realised how AWESOME Odo was. Everything about the character is compelling, especially the performance. Although, Kira and Jadzia make me cringe (Dax less so.. and we're only up to mid season 3 here. Worf hasn't even shown up, so I'm assuming the performces will get as strong as I remember them being.)

Also, Cardassians. I resented how bland they were the first time I watched the show, but now it's obvious just how well written they are. I've just decided I was a stupid teenager when I first watched it and that's why (despite being my favorite Trek) I never noticed all the fine detail.

Wade in on the Voyager debate... I never really liked it as a show, but there were lots of solid stand alone episodes that I really enjoyed. Plus, the two parters were generally really good as well. But agree with Superfreak... They did seem to lower the standard of actors they used (The Doctor excluded).

TNG is my favorite, but I think DS9 is the best (and my favorite when I'm in the mood).

I always enjoyed DS9 (especially when they finally got the Defiant ;)), but when I started watching the DS9 reruns, it's awesomeness multiplied and I really appreciated it more.

As time goes on, you will develop a deep appreciation of both Kira and Jadzia Dax, especially on repeat viewings. They were the strongest female characters in Star Trek history, and they served side to side, no less!

In the Sci Fi world, we wouldn't see strong and interesting female characters like that until Battlestar Galactica.

I remember really liking Kira the first time round, but on the re-runs I've caught she seems to be prone to over-acting. Having said that, I caught a couple of season 5 episodes today and she was much more assured.

I've never liked Jadzia. EVER. I preferred Ezri. It's probably because Bashir was my favorite character when I was young and Jadzia seemed to dick him over a lot. Least he won out with Ezri :p

I really liked Jadzia. She was one of the guys, who just happened to be a smoking hot female. Kira got on my nerves a bit, and she wasn't my favorite, but her character depth over time was really well done and intertwined with Odo's, who was great as the new Worf (Until Worf showed up, and they showed the differences between the characters). Bashir was probably my least favorite doctor, if not then he just edged out Crusher.

Hmmm... I guess, when I watched DS9 as a kid, Bashir resonated (as I'm from the UK). Jadzia ALWAYS seemed so arrogant, and that's what I didn't like.

Odo is amazing. Simply put, I had zero interest in him and saw him as a plot device more than anything the first time through.
Having watched a lot of TV (and having grown up by how ever many years it's been... near as I can tell, DS9 must have started 16 years ago?) now I can really see how amazing the character is. Watching all the little interactions with Quark are brilliant, and the way the actor plays his curiosity is so alien, it's perfect :) (Rene something... I can never remember his second name :csad: )

Rene Auberjonois.

Don't ask me how to pronounce it, I can barely spell it. :p

Odo is a great character, it's also pretty cool how they worked him into the over-all story-arc of the show before and after the Dominion appears.

considering what? Really, I hated pretty much every secondary character on voyager. Paris, the rebel wanna be, who didn't turn out to be. Harry Kim... probably one of the worst star trek characters/portrayals out there(just like Bashir in early DS9, except they diverged where Bashir's character actually developed). Neelix is like the jar jar binks of the star trek world and I cringe at any centric episode involving him (once he had some dark characters to play off against, he was fine... but 90% of the time, I felt like they should have cooked Neelix in the galley, and eat him). Kes was utterly pointless. Even Chakotay was a weak character.

the show persisted IMO, on Janeway, Tuvok, the Doctor (and even he wasn't the greatest character, but a fabulous portrayal) and 7/9, when they decided that the cast was weak, and could use a solid lead... with boobs

I think the thing about Bashir is, compared to the other characters at the beginning of DS9, he didn't seem to have any 'nasty' side to his history; the rest had already lost loved ones (Sisko), exerienced war and occupation with the Cardassians (Obrian, Kira and Odo), were/are crooks (Quark), or had lived several life times (Dax). Bashir by contrast was young, hopeful and enthusiastic.

I always liked how Bashir developed over the series; the episode with the LMH and the reveal of his past is one of my all time favorites :)
Also, when he calculates how screwed they are off the top of his head at the beginning of season six... gold :D

indeed, that's what took him beyond being a generic star trek pijama wearing panzy. Things like how he'd been losing intentionally at darts with Obrien for pretty much the entire series... stuff like that was great.

Harry Kim never developed anything interesting to move beyond that... and is one of my most hated star trek characters because of it. He's like a Wesley Crusher that didn't pull any stunts at the Academy.
