Are You Happy with the Reboot?

  • Heck No! I loved me some Raimi and Tobey!

Couldn't be any worse than Spider-Man 3 :awesome:

Spider-Man 3 is a masterpiece of modern cinema compared to the tons of undiluted crap that Hollywood puts out every year.

No because thats already some of our opinions on Spider-Man 4, not the reboot

Without any of it getting actually done, which comes to show how much an axe to grind they have.

I'm happy about it. That is not to say I don't appreciate Raimi and co for Spider-Man 1 and 2.

But seriously, I'm going to keep an open mind about this. I'm not gonna be like some of these so called Spider-Mans "fans" who are like...

"Boo ****ing hoo! I want my Raimi back! I hope the new films suck!"

People with that mentality do not deserve to be called Spider-Man fans. I mean yea! Let's actively HOPE that they make crap films about my favourite character!

What's the phrase, cutting off your nose to spite your own face?

Well, I think if Sony gave complete control to Raimi for SM4, I would have loved to see it. But I'm not the everlasting defender of Raimi for every single thing. No filmmaker is perfect. But if he screwed up SM4 and had the control then I would have blamed him.

But I don't think a reboot is a right word. It's a little too harsh to describe. Batman needed the reboot. It was an abomination of a film. SM3 was a huge success and had mixed reviews at best. Nothing that should have indicated a reboot despite the whining fans.

It's hard to see what the truth really is that went on, but from the script description of SM4, it was crap anyway. So we dodged a bullet. Raimi backed out of making another disapointing film. More power to him.

But to me this reboot is just a sign for Sony to not let go of their best moneymaker go. Once they scrapped it they knew they couldn't do without SM for a long time, that means loss of alot of money for them. So they went to the Vanderbilt scripts, soemthing I didn't expect would arise for a decade or so, maybe a little less. But to me reboot is word saying it had the same fate as Batman where that needed to have the word reboot. I prefer fresh start.

When the first film came out eight ****ing years ago, it's time to reboot?

So all in all, from a moneymaking standpoint it had to be done.

But am I happy with it? I'm happy that Raimi walked away from something that could have been another SM3 or worse. And I could be happy if we have a good SM film.

I guess I can't say until I see the film to see if it was really worth it. I'll keep an open mind. I am a Spider-Man fan and in no way do I wish bad luck on one of my favorite comic book characters. Raimi films will always be there, and probably I will have more of a fondness for them, but I'm looking forward to exciting new possibilities.

I guess it might be as annoying as the people who now trash everything Raimi did cuz Spider-Man 3 wasn´t in the same league as the first two. Do I hope the nest Spidey film will be great? Always, but I´ve been following this stuff long enough to know it can always end up turning really bad, which is part of why I don´t waste time and energy blowing nitpicks out of proportion. Trust me, it´s far better to appreciate the good stuff.

Marb Webb. But Vaughn is welcome as well.

Abrams would be great. He's a fantasy choice of mine but he's too busy to do SM. I guess he's doing ST2.

I hope your first sentence wasn't aimed at me.

Because I've been criticizing the Green Goblin, MJ, the stupid melodrama, Sandman being Uncle Bens Killer and the lack of development for Brock since WAAAAAAY before this reboot news came out.

And what do you mean you have been following this stuff long enough to know it can always end up turning bad?

So tell me, when was the last time a reboot was actually WORSE than the originals?

The logical mentality to have is this...

"Thanks Raimi I appreciate everything you have done and I'll still treasure your Spidey movies. But I'm looking on to the new pastures and am gonna remain positive about the possibility that the new Spidey films will match and maybe even excel yours!"

Instead of...

"WA WA WAAAA! I want my Raimi back! I hate reboots! I hope a film about one of my favourite fictional characters fails just to piss off Sony and the reboot optimists! WA WA WAAAA!"

Yes Abrams would be too busy he is directing the next Star Trek movie he would probably put lens flares into Spiderman.

Well, I think alot of the debate has been framed as either you want a sequel and stick by Raimi or you want a reboot and don't like the Raimi films. It is possible to have liked the Raimi films but be excepting of a reboot and hope it's good. For me it's not and either or sort of thing . I loved the first two films but ultimately I realize that the character is stronger then any one actor or version. I doesn't take anything away from Raimi and co but the character will outlast all of us, and will always be reinterpreted for a new audience.

I actually think that if the film is good and those fans enjoy it , the alot of the anger will go. Right now it's still fresh and raw , but time does heal especially if there's a good pay off for them . Right now alot of the fans are kinda in the dark and don't know what this reboot holds where as with a Raimi film they'd at least have a better idea of what to expect. The unknown is always a bit tricky, but I'm gonna reserve judgement and see what Sony gives us.

Er... so tell me, when was the last time you saw a reboot that was WORSE than the originals?

YOu mentioned what´s annoying about Raimi´s defenders, I´m saying his critics can be equally, ir not more, annoying, and they are.

I mean that Hollywood has a tendency to do much more bad stuff than good. Just check the amount of crap released last year, or any year.

My mentality is definitely the first over the second, but you forget there´s also:

WA WA WAAAA! Raimi always sucked major ass cuz MJ didn´t have boobs big enough and Spidey didn´t say a lame joke every ten seconds!! I know the reboot can only be better even if most things Hollywood do suck!! WA WA WAAAAAAAA!!!

Terminator Salvation is a good example of a reboot that doesn´t match the originals. A lot of Bond fans were unhappy with Quantum Of Solace, which was part of the reboot of the franchise.

lol touche' good sir touche'. I can't really counter that.

I too dislike band wagon jumpers.

But like I said, I'm just going to remain open minded.

If the new films turn out crap? Oh well, I've still got Spider-Man 1 and 2 to fall back on.

If they turn out brilliant? Great! But that doesn't mean I will forget the great films that SM1 and 2 certainly were, well IMO they were.

Since when is Terminator Salvation a reboot?

Well some people think when they mentioned TDK it means Spider-Man will be turned into a humourless, brooding, dark vigilante. Even though that would be taking away the main selling point of a character worth millions.

But we really don't know anything yet.

I hope the way they do the reboot it feels right, they get a good cast, and a good story.

Just because people hear the word "dark" people automatically assume we are gonna get a TDK rip off as you said. However, I just interpret it as meaning that Spidey is going to overcome a lot of stuff in the movie. I like to see the heroes challenged. A hero is only as good as the evil that he overcomes.

you can has a dark and gritty setting but still have a light and wise cracking spidey.

*dark and gritty sewer*

*spidey looks for the lizard*

spidey - 'hereeeee lizzy, lizzy lizzy...'

Yeah, the term "Dark" is kinda subjective and can really mean alot of things. It depends on what you're comparing it to . For example , The Die Hard films are pretty dark in content, but Bruce Willis is cracking jokes every five seconds . However , not many would define those films as campy or light. Bladerunner imo, is far darker then Batman Returns, though most fans would say BR is a pretty dark film.

So it really depends on what we're comparing it too. If the reboot is dark , it may mean that it's more serious then the Raimi films but not as serious as Blade 1 for example . Basically it can be dark for a Spiderman film but not as serious as Watchmen or TDK.

So the term dark is pretty vague and subjective and it doesn't really give me a grasp on how the subject matter will be exactly handled.

I have no problem whatsoever with a dark subject matter but the hero HIMSELF should be light and if not exactly carefree he should be homourous.
everytime spidey HIMSELF gets dark I shake my head, the the 'back in black' storyline  it just doesn't suit the character

You don't end a franchise all of a sudden, Ace. I mean, atleast they should have given us 1 more film. Now, you can say "get over it It's over." But the fact remains that this was a d*** move. So people with the mentaltiy of "F*** sony" is quite necessary at this moment, if you ask me.
