I don't know what you mean. I was looking forward to Spider-Man 4. I was going to see it. I never pretended I wouldn't. But now I'm REALLY REALLY excited for it. I think it will be much better this way. While Spider-Man 1 and 2 were good (2 had some great action), and 3 mostly sucked (yes it had good parts) I want more from my Spidey films. I want to LOOOOOOVE them. Raimi always injected way to much cheese and bad writing for that to happen. I'll tell you one thing for sure, I am SO freaken happy I don't have to see that stupid Hoffman character anymore. I've never seen such an obvious display of nepotism in my entire life.

see, as much as you and others have busted MY balls for my views on the spider-man series by Raimi, now it's my turn to take your former job over.. :woot::woot::woot:

i was really pissed at first still ticked but i am more optimistic since i have calmed down bit and let the news settle in.

only thing i am really mad at is how soon the reboot has occurred i feel like it wont make a lot of money i cant help but think of The Incredible Hulk. Was Rebooted 5 years after its previous film just like this and made 263 million WW on a 150 million dollar budget.Spiderman being a franchsie make it worse TIH was so much better than Ang Lee's Hulk but it did not make alot of money at all.

I just fear people will be turned off by not having the original team back and are gonna wonder why the hell peter is back in high school.

Im glad for the reboot, as much as I liked Raimi's spider-man movies I felt he was taking too many liberties with the source material, I also didnt like some of his character development i.e. making Mary Jane a damsel in distress that just screams during the entire movie. Thats one thing Im hoping for in the reboot, stick closer to the books i.e. making gwen the first love interest, spiderman being a smartass during fights etc.

Lee's Hulk didn't make a lot of money either,in fact it made less than the later one:

Hulk $245,360,480

Incredible Hulk:$263,427,551

Hulk is a not a popular mainstream character, any comparisons with Spider-Man whose last movie made almost twice as much the combined grosses of both Hulks is not based on reality.

Which is why you're here posting about it.:whatever:

I posted my thoughts 10 minutes after finding out on another web forum that there was going to be a reboot. You know, it is possible to have an opinion that is different from yours. :wow: Big ****ing shock

You are so full of it. I'm sorry but you are. You are going to go see this movie and you know it.
Well, I know you're sorry so why state the obvious. As for watching the Spidey reboot, why should I watch something that I have no interest in?

I was surprised when I heard about the reboot. I kind of figured after all the money Raimi made for Sony with Spiderman, they would be inclined to let him do what he wanted.

I did enjoy the first movie and thought it was a very faithful adaptation to Spiderman. The second one, in my opinion, deserved an Oscar nomination. The third one? Well, if you don't have anything nice to say...

Here's the thing I'm concerned with and maybe someone could set me straight:

Did Raimi walk away because he thought the script was garbage, or was he replaced because of the problems with the release date? Because if he walked due to the script? Then I'm thinking Sony cares more about milking the franchise than putting out a good product, which might spell trouble for the reboot.

Hot damn. I have to say that I'm pretty excited for the reboot. There are things that I wasn't fond of from the old series that I hope they fix. Mary Jane/Gwen Stacy is also a primary concern of mine that I truly wish they would focus a lot on. I hated how they were written in the films and their relationships with Peter. I would also love to hear more quips. It was nice when we got them, but they seemed few and far between. I also think that for a villain in the reboot, they should go for someone we haven't seen yet (I'm praying for Electro or Lizard myself), and build their way into re-doing some of the more popular villains. I mean, I'd love to see Green Goblin/Venom get a Joker-esque treatment. The Joker in TDK is such a great example of just re-using a villain but having a different take on him that isn't unfaithful to the source material. Goblin just looked like a rejected Power Rangers villain, so it kind of took me out of the mood, despite the fact that I thought Willem Dafoe did an awesome job playing him. And Venom... man, what a wasted opportunity there and Sony is the mere cause of that. In the old series, I think Doc Ock was the only screen villain that I thought was perfect.

However, I know I brought up the Joker and TDK (which is so cliche nowadays), but I do agree with those that think making a Spidey film more like TDK is a bad idea. Honestly, I would prefer that they aim for more of an Iron Man tone than TDK tone. The Spider-Man reboot really should be more like Iron Man. Not too dark or gritty, but not too over-the-top or campy.

Yikes. Double post. Sorry.

No. This is a stupid idea to do after hyping us for Spider-Man 4. Give us that atleast.

And DACMAN, you're just being an ass. Stop.

Yeah I totally agree, so dumb on sony's part. Probably the worst decision they could make! :down

Everyone loved this spidey franchise! I cant imagine it any other way! They should have made Spider-Man 4 and not have left us with a ****** last Spider-Man. But whatever, this reboot better be a damn good movie for me to accept this

I wouldn't say everyone. I remember back in 2004 practically the entire fanbase was worshiping Raimi, calling the SM franchise the best superhero movies ever, and were begging him to come back for a third. It did have some complaints, but not as many as there are now. Then SM3 came out and here they are putting down the first two movies like they hated them in the first place.

I couldn't even begin to answer this question at this point in time.

I'll get back to you once I've seen some footage.

Not happy at all. I'm a huge Raimi fan. his Evil Dead films were some of my first horror and/or comedy films, and I still love them today. Drag Me To Hell sucked, but thats for soemwhere else. I loved Raimi's spidey films. Yeah, 3 wasn't great, as I'm mentione din three threads by now, but I think they all work. and to me, Tobey is Peter Parker. He really looks it to me,a nd he's a good actor. Kirsten dunst may not be the best actress, but I found ehr as a great MJ too. And James Franco as Harry was great, though despite everyones love of 2, I liked Harry in the first and third films better than the second, cause he only brooded and moped for most of the film.
I say no to this reboot. Footage may make me change my mind, but for now, I'm going with no.

:csad:

If you were the real Dafoe, your response would be "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I'VE SACRIFICED!?"

:csad:

I'm personally more glad then anything. I've been wanting a new director to take over for Spidey since Spider-man 2 (though I know I'm in the minority on that one).

I don't think Sam did a bad job by any means. The man gave us two great movies and one average one. However, while I think his movies were good movies, I never thought they were particularly good adaptations. If you get my meaning.

I never was a fan of Sam's treatment of the duality within the character of Spider-man and Peter, and the character of Spider-man. His treatment of MJ was absolutely horrendous, and his treatment of the supporting cast was nearly non-existent.

There are a lot of things that I think could be improved. But really, the biggest thing I would have to say to the new creators would be,

watch SSM. And take notes. LOTS of notes.

Huh. That's actually pretty funny.

I like you. You are always so polite and well spoken. Not to mention you almost always make a ton of sense.

And I'd say read Ultimate Spider-Man 1-133 and take lots of notes.

I'm not really sure how I feel. I'll have to wait until everything is announced. I mean, their are pros and cons to this thing, to every reboot really.

First, my cons:

- I loved Raimi's and Toby's Spider-Man. I love that character. And I'm upset that I'll never see him on that silver screen again. I mean, Sony wants the dude from Twilight to be Spider-Man?! Really?! I know most of you cannot want that. Plus, Peter Parker is not supposed to be a pretty boy. That's why I thought Toby was perfect for the role. He is an average joe.

- And really, was the first trilogy really that bad?! To have to reboot the series a mere 8 years later. I know most people hate the third Spider-Man. I mean, there are parts I hate about it, sure, but I think it is a good film. I personally like it.

Pros:

- We get to see villains like Venom (maybe) done right. That is probably the thing I like about superhero reboots, the villain can be done over again with every actor portraying one bringing something different to the table every time. I mean, look at the TDK. The Joker and Two-Face in that movie are perfect! I'd love to see Venom and Carnage in a movie together with Spider-Man, and if done correctly, would be above amazing.

I know a lot of people are not a fan of the proposed 'darker and gritty' Spider-Man we might get. But I personally love darker films. I mean, they bring out all the emotion and I love that.

I hope that this comes out great. All I can do is hope. Spider-Man is my favorite superhero of all time!

I still don't see what was done so wrong in regards to Venom. His definitive story is first the black costume stuff and then getting revenge on Spidey after Parker "ruins" his life. Anything else is extraneous.

Maybe its the fact that he didn't get a whole movie against Spidey. Oh, and the fact that he was destroyed in all of five minutes.

Eh, Venom's a simple enough character that he doesn't need a whole movie to himself, and honestly, since a majority of the story involves the symbiote suit, there needs to be another villain in there to show how different Spider-Man acts under the influence of the suit.

And in case you're wondering, the Green Goblin's definitive storyline is him making things incredibly personal with Spider-Man, Sandman's is that he's a somewhat sympathetic character and Doc Ock is one of those villains who doesn't see themselves as the bad guy. The Raimi films did get the villains right, despite inaccuracies regarding the comics.

Funny thing that Venom, just like Spiderman couldn't keep the mask on.

I just hope they still try to come up with some new villains and storylines. We don't need to see the Goblins again.

Some of Raimis biggest faults was to make Spiderman a Superman Clone, someone who is loved by the People and even gets the Key to the Town:whatever:

Spiderman has to be a misunderstood Hero that takes on the evil Boys, but no one really gives him credit for that.
