The Amazing Spider-Man Are You Happy About The Reboot?

Are You Happy with the Reboot?

  • Heck Yeah! They'll finally do it right this time! Bring on the quips!

  • Heck No! I loved me some Raimi and Tobey!

  • Not sure yet. I'll wait and see who they get replaced with.

Something that I find interesting is that everyone breathes fire on Raimi for "ruining Venom" when the only reason he used Venom was because the studio forced him to. Now that Raimi is gone, the people who forced him to put a half-assed Venom arc into Spider-Man 3 have total control over the franchise. Do we really want the people who damaged Spider-Man 3 to be in charge of this franchise with a free hand?

Studio: Warner Bros.

2004: Catwoman
2005: Batman Begins

2006: Superman Returns
2008: The Dark Knight

Conclusion: Irrelevant. Studios f**k up and studios learn their lesson. It's a cyclic procedure.

I agree that Raimi doesn't deserve the blame for how Venom turned out in the last film.

For some reason I think Marvel Studios is going to have more of a hand in the production of the new films and that Sony has learned it's lesson seeing how Marvel studios has been doing things (sans Punisher War Zone which should have been a damn easy film to make).

I'm interested in a reboot. I don't know about having the origin story again though, still, look forward to how everything will play out.

Hell yea!

For many reasons.

I think Sam Raimi had a limited vision of what he thought Spider-Man was.

Not only that but the casting was horrible. I couldn't stand anybody of the actors. Completly off the mark. Dunst, undeveloped character, ugly while MJ is a uber hot babe. Maguire, too whiny. Peter has his problem but he's quite the cheery guy(it's pain with a smile lol). JJ was so cartoonish that you couldn't involve him in any parts of story. It goes on and on. The only ones that I didn't have a problem with was May(but you can find any old lady actress outthere than could do a good job) and Willem Defoe because he's a good actor and he has this demonic smile. Yet they covered his smile when he became the Green Goblin, the fools.

wow, more talk about how ugly dunst is. Hey,can you guys show me your supermodel girlfriends? *crickets chirping*

yeah..thought so

If this were '06 I would've happily pwned you. :o

But in all seriousness I never got this rationale. Do you need to be a talented singer to realize someone isn't fit to sing? Do you need to be a Hollywood great to see how terrible a film is directed? Do you need to own a sports car to judge a piece of crap metal that belongs in the junkyard? I can go on and on....

Not happy about the reboot. Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are phenomenal movies. Spider-Man 3 is a flawed by acceptable cap to a trilogy that could've been better had Raimi been given more freedom.

Spider-Man 4 could've been crap but I looked forward to it anyway. But I'd rather have no movie at all than a reboot. Why bother?

I would rather Marvel do a reboot than Sony do a reboot. I could care less about Sony's Spider-Man franchise now.

But I'm also really biased. I grew up with the Spider-Man series. I grew up hearing Tobey Maguire's voice coming out of Spider-Man's mask. I think the first two are perfect Spider-Man movies. I always felt like the audience was in Peter Parker's head, and I loved the time they took to flesh out his character. They were fantastic action movies with heart and soul that never felt tacked-on or phony. I felt like Raimi and Maguire, amongst many other hard-working cast and crew members, brought that to life very well.

Guys, the movie won't work........... this is what happens when corporations getts between artists and think of about money only.

It's a bunch of old farts in a conference room, who know nothing about Spiderman, making he decision, and you all are falling for it
That sums it up perfectly, IMO. They're not interested in story, only money.

I Am happy that it is a reboot but i just don't want to sit through an Origin Story and go through the Uncle Ben Responsibility crap!!! But it is good news that it's being rebooted. sucks for Tobey and Malkovich.

I love Spider-Man, so I will give the reboot a chance. I think there are definately people out there that can do great Spider-Man movies not named Raimi.

However, I am somewhat nervous. The fact Sony and Raimi couldn't agree to things like a villain and such makes me think Sony might be pulling a FOX on us: giving the reigns to a director whom will film their movie. Thus making this a studio shoot. I am very scared this is what Sony is trying to do especially since they just had a director whom was telling them "no" and fired him.

I wanted Raimi to give us 1 more film, and end his Spider-Man on a higher note than SM3. The fact SM3 is the end of his Spider-Man makes me very sad. Raimi gave us 2 great films, and I am greatful for that, and I respect him for standing up for his vision and not giving in to studio pressure. It might be best this happened, since we likely would have gotten SM3 again.

I'm giving the new cast and crew a chance, but I am very weary and scared :csad:

I think it's ******ed that after 20 years of waiting for a reboot of Superman, which has needed a reboot for a looooong ass time, Spider-Man is getting rebooted when the franchise is only 8 years old. When Batman Begins came out, there was a whole generation of kids who grew up without seeing a Batman movie. Batman and Robin was so awful, what 21st century parent in their right mind would have given it to their kids? The audience was ripe for a new Batman film, and rebooting was their only hope of escaping the tainted legacy of Batman and Robin. The franchise needed a reboot, the audience was ready for a reboot, so a reboot is what it got.

Not so with Spider-Man. There are still LOTS of kids who are still crazy about Raimi's films. They can't count on a bunch of uninitiated kids picking up on the Spider-Man reboot, because Raimi's trilogy is still a staple of modern pop culture. Kids are going to look at the new movie and go "Wait, WHAAAT!? I already saw this story! Peter Parker is supposed to be in college now, and he was going to marry MJ! Why are they starting over?"

Sony is doing this because it's easier for them to start over than it is to find interesting ways to evolve Spider-Man's character. If this reboot is a hit, they're just going to keep rebooting every ten years until the public says "I've had enough" and stops watching. And then, Spider-Man on film will be dead for a looooong time. That's why I hope this movie bombs-- if audiences reject this notion that franchises should be recycled every 10 years sooner rather than later, maybe the damage can be isolated.

I've said it before dozens of times, I loved the first two movies. Enjoyed 3 for what it was, even though some of its shine has worn off. I would have liked to see Raimi get his shot at redemption, as he seemed genuinely dedicated towards turning in the best work he could for the fans. I do think on the other hand, that it could be a breath of fresh air to have new blood and a new take on the franchise.

I'm not going to write off something immediately like some others seem to be doing all over the internet. Instead, I'll remain optimistic towards this and hope it's even better than the first series. If you go in with an open mind, you might like it. If you go in with a predetermined "This will suck..." attitude you will probably not like it. Until they give me reason not to, that's what I'm going to stick by.

Completely agree. 8 years, and a reboot already? In a way, Batman Begins has ruined the comic film genre.

Part of me thinks a big part of the reboot is so that they can tie the Spidey movies in with the other marvel movies.

The fact that marvel studios was so heavily mentioned stands out to me as that's never really happened before with the spidey movies. Usually every announcement just mentions Raimi, Sony, and Avi.

It's funny how some people are going "Yay. With Raimi gone everything will be perfect."

Sony still owns the character so I'm not expecting much difference unless the rights go back to Marvel.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if in 4 years time the Spider-man fans treat the third film with more respect.

Well that's just foolish. It's not BB's fault that everyone jumped on a bandwagon instead of prioritizing what's best for their movie. Is it also Spielberg's fault for creating the blockbuster genre, that we've had such crappy studio tentpole films over the pas thalf century? Is it Halloween's fault that it spawned a whole slew of teen slasher flicks? Is it X-Men and Spider-Man's fault that we've had an oversaturation of comic book films, most that aren't even good?

Be rational here. The bad will always outweigh the good, in quantity. That's the nature of things. Let's stop pointing fingers at the wrong people.

No doubt about that, IMO. Ever since this "Nolan this and Nolan that" crap and the "it should be more like TDK. reboot!" We've been getting slammed with people scremaing "reboot!" It's damn sickening. Spider-Man is the most successful superhero genre ever. To not have a S-M4 is a BIG mistake a Sony's part. A VERY big mistake. It's sure a sad day for me as a Raimi supporter.

Sony doesn't "own" the character, they license the rights to make films about the character. I'm sure there are some things Sony isn't even allowed to do with the Spider-man character.
