I think the fact it has not hit any children is kind of the point and also leaves out a few details. Were these children playing in the road and intentionally ignoring the car or were they completely unaware of the car at all? Would a human driver have been any better at avoiding them? Kids do stupid things all the time and without more details on how these things nearly hit kids it might be a good thing because it has better reactions than a human driver. On top of that clearly these people hate self-driving cars regardless so their claims are likely influenced by that.
