Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5

Missed this bit from the original article:

Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

I know that's just conjecture and fanwank but at some point they're bound to introduce the character the T-800 was modeled after.

If it turns out that Arnie's playing Sarah's dad, or a soldier who protected her parents...?

Maybe Skynet was created as early as the space program?

Anyone who doubts Dwayne's acting ability should watch 'Snitch'. Top class.

As I said before, best performance he's done so far.

He's good. He's got charisma. But he's never done anything really outside his comfort zone. But he doesn't have to. He's one of the best action stars.

I can't/don't believe you really think he's a good actor. :D Still love ya. :hrt:
If I didn't think he was good I would say so. You know me well enough to know that I speak my mind whether it goes against the grain or not.:oldrazz:

If I can accept you not liking Drive and liking Transformers then you can accept my opinion about Johnson. :hrt:

Skynet doesn't know what Sarah Connor looks like, or where she lives, but it somehow knew what someone who protected her family in the 50's looked like?

Makes sense.

I for one am excited about the possibility of The Rock being in the latest Terminator movie.

As for the plot, we have to remember that Arnold's no spring chicken anymore. They're gonna have to come up with a plot to make use of his now flabby muscles. One idea listed earlier is he is an older model terminator which has been in action for the past twenty years and the living tissue which covers his metal endoskeleton has aged just like a normal human's would. In this case The Rock could be a newer model of Terminator just off the assembly line. Maybe after the failure of the T1000, Skynet reverts to the tried and true method of living tissue over metal endoskeleton, only the metal endoskeleton is stronger, faster, and more durable, and looks like The Rock. This would be a story line which requires no time travel.

The other possible story is that a Terminator (most likely played by The Rock) goes back in time to the 1950's to kill Sarah Connor's parents before she was even born. In this scenario, Arnold either plays her dad, or a close family friend whom they run to when this unstoppable killer negro (how The Rock would likely be seen as during the 50's) shows up and tries to kill them. Obviously, this one WOULD require time travel.

But there's only so much you can do with this franchise. You can either have it take place in the future during the war. Or you can incorperate time travel and have it take place in the past/present.

Personally, I'd kind of like to see a movie where the human resistance finally defeats the machines. When they storm Skynet Central, they discover the time machine and see that a T-800 had already been sent back in time. Then Kyle Reese volunteers to go back in time to try and stop the terminator. Then the time machine is destroyed and the whole thing starts all over again.

I'm surprised arnold's ego could handle essentially playing a melting robot? ha.

This new rumors sounds so..stupid. Seriously contrived and awful.

^That's a terrible idea to me, a truly terrible idea.

Fair enough. To me, if they actually get a little bit extistential with their themes, it sounds like a genius idea, just the kind a Terminator movie would need.

I think that would be the perfect way to use Arnie in a new Terminator.

Ah but are you blinded by lust!? :D ;)

Oh I accept all of you Baby! :hrt: :woot:

I can't believe you like that idea. :p It makes me quake in horror. Though I guess I did think Rise of the Planet of the Apes was going to be crap and ended up loving it...

No cuddlebear I am not blinded by lust. There is plenty of lust there but I know when I think a man can act or not. :p :hrt:

Rumors and fan-wishes for the Rock in a Terminator film have been around for years. I never gave them much credit until I saw the most recent Fast & Furious movie. The Rock basically already plays a Terminator in that movie, particularly in the interrogation scene. Now I'm 100% on board for the Rock playing a Terminator and eventually taking over the franchise from Arnold.

I don't want another Terminator set in the past. I want another movie in the future, but I want them to really dig into the lore this time. Have Arnold play the dude that the Terminators based the 101 on. Touch on the fact that the timeline has been altered so much that the 800s came early and that anything can happen now. Tease or show the time displacement equipment. Have a badass night time full battle scene, the kind repeatedly teased in 1-3. Blue-filter the **** out of it.

I just think that another Terminator set in the past just sounds like another reason to rip off T2. I love T2 but how about something different happens in the next film?

Oh great we can get some in jokes at the Terminator being old

"My joints need oil"

I think the 50's can work for the greaser biker look. The Terminator(Dwayne or Arnie) can crash a biker bar.

I'll be honest I really don't want another Terminator movie at all.

That would be my preference too. But as I wrote earlier, there's only so much you can do with this franchise. Thus I'm not totally opposed to another Terminator movie about time travel, but I'd prefer one set in the future.

I want another Terminator movie and I don't mind if Dwayne Johnson is in it, just not one set in the past again. It's been three times that Skynet has tried and failed to accomplish killing someone in the past.

Why can't it be focused in the future, during the war? Or events leading up to the creation of time travel? Salvation wasn't the best movie but it still gets higher marks from me for finally daring to stop repeating the same damned story for the fourth time in a row.

Hell, if it has to include time travel, have it set in the future with someone/robot from further in the future trying to change something from their past instead of ours. Going to the 1950's just doesn't sound fun or appealing.

This will be like Back to the Future, only with Terminators.

So The Rock will be playing a Terminator in the 50s? A big bad colored guy in 50s America doesn't sound like a good combo. On the plus side, Arnie's character could be one of those Nazi scientists from Project/Operation Paperclip working on an early version of Skynet.

Is Skynet really that stupid that they try to trip to the past thing again?

I mean do they know what happens when they try these things?
