Arnold Schwarzenegger Returning For The Legend of Conan

I think all of them are crap. Conan the destroyer is "fun", though.

What kind of blasphemy is this? Conan The Barbarian is a masterpiece. Get outta here with this piece. ''Teh hell wit you''...I always wanted to see old Conan. That shot of him sitting as King will remain with me.

I'm sorry, but it's just too boring and ugly (guys humping animals).

I agree. Arnold's more charismatic than Momoa. I also think Conan The Barbarian is has some well shot scenes and good score.

You're absolutely right: the score in particular recalls the best historical epics of the 50s-60s. A big omission from the score as released is the music from the Tower of Set, which is in fact a cleverly atmospheric reworking of one of the Cantigas de Santa Maria.

I, also, have never seen that scene. Maybe you have a special version, perhaps filmed in German?

You guys never noticed the guy screwing the camel in CtB? It's there (but it's not like the entire movie is just that one scene)

I... What? Yeah... I think you are watching the wrong... Everything.

It's been there since the beginning.....39 minutes in, Conan and Subotai wandering through a big city at night...they see a guy apparently trying to have sex with a llama....then Conan backs into the camel and punches it.

I remember the camel punching okay, but not the camel...intimacy. perhaps that was censored in the UK release?

I just looked at my DVD of it....it's night, Conan and Subotai are walking down an inclined street acting drunk, suddenly you see them walk past a llama and a guy behind it, he's holding on to it (you can't really tell what's happening) but Conan and Subotai point and laugh and say "Can you believe that?"

It may have been edited in the UK...or the laugh from him punching the camel just put it out of your mind.

The dialogue I remember is Conan and Subedei laughing together, followed by Conan saying "they're dead already". The camel then spits at him, so he punches it on the chin.

Definitely sounds like the UK version was cut. They are walking down the street with a lot of people standing or wandering by.....

A woman says "A pittance to protect you from evil."

Subotai says "I am evil"

Conan waves an arm at the people on the street and says "They're all ****s."

They then pass a guy leaning against the wall but looks asleep and Conan says "He's dead already."

THEN.....they walk past the guy and the llama.

Yep, that's how the scene goes. Conan and Subotai point and laugh at the guy humping the llama. Then Conan bumps into the camel and punches it out. Then they walk away and Subotai says "You're too big to be a thief."

For years I never realized just what it was that Conan and Subotai were laughing at. And I had watched it dozens of times since it first came out on VHS back in 1983. It wasn't until a watched it on DVD on a really big screen (57" I think) before I realized the full meaning of that scene.

Incidentally, I heard a rumor that the camel punch wasn't written into the script. They had shot that scene over and over, and between takes Arnold would do a shot of peppermint Schnapps. By this time he was tired, drunk, and frustrated. So when he bumped into the camel by accident, he hauled off and punched it. Then John Milius was like "Brilliant! Cut! That's a wrap!"

I don't know for sure if that's true, but that's what I heard. If it is true, that's pretty damned funny.

It seems that I must watch it again.

Back when I first saw it at the theater....there was no internet to run to....so I saw the scene, thought I saw what we are talking about, but didn't really have anyone to talk about it to. I don't recall ever hearing anyone else mention it....so all these years I have silently chuckled at it when I saw it....and wondered if anyone else had ever noticed it.

That bestiality bit might have fallen victim to pan & scan versions of the film on VHS back in the day too. I started noticing a LOT of things I never saw before when I started buying older films on DVD that I had not yet seen in proper widescreen format.

Of course edited for tv is most likely. If you watch the DVD though you can't miss it.

Back when the movie first came out, the magazine CINEFANTASTIQUE did a big story on it. They had a writer on set a long time and he did a big write up on behind the scenes stuff. I haven't read it for years (I still have the issue packed away somewhere) but I remember some tings he talked about. A lot didn't make it into the movie. He talked about full long fight scenes in the early pit fights that we got seconds of....lots and lots of severed limbs and heads on set. One thing he told that always stood out was.....one day on set he made some kind of remark about things being fake....Sven Ole Thorson heard him, walked over and handed him a horseshoe. The writer said I looked at it, felt it in my hand, and asked Sven what it was for. He said Sven then took it from him, and twisted the iron horseshoe with just his hands....then walked off laughing.

Absolutely! I watch it at least once a year. Always good to rewatch it. You never know what little gems you'll find in scenes you've nearly forgotten.

That's why I figured I had missed that particular scene for so long. The fact that the family TV was only 13" when I was a kid probably had something to do with it. It's a lot easier to notice things like that when the images are damn near life size.

Arnie coming back as King Conan would be great especially coming back as an older, wiser Conan who has been on the throne for however long and Conan's kingdom his world being threatened he obviously fights but he would do so alongside his son who would be the Prince of the kingdom but also with his son he would be primed to take over the kingdom once his father dies but also his son would have a love interest

This made me sad. I can imagine poor little C. Lee watching that scene in the theater with a propeller beanie on his head and a traumatized look on his face:csad:

That was the script, not the actor. I know he is popular, but I find Momoa to be a piece of wood, albeit one with a snarl.

I much prefer Arnold's, mainly because he is much more charismatic and likeable than Momoa. I agree that the character was altered quite a bit, though.

I agree. The Momoa movie was closer to RE Howard's original stories, but Arnold's movies told their stories better.

Ah, it was a llama not a camel. I need to watch that scene the movie again.
