Arnold Schwarzenegger Returning For The Legend of Conan

Robert E. Howard’s Conan The Barbarian, Kull And Other Creations Acquired By Fredrik Malmberg
Mike Fleming Jr said:
EXCLUSIVE:
Fredrik Malmberg, who for years was the Hollywood face of Swedish company Paradox Entertainment’s campaign to turn Robert E. Howard properties Conan, Kull The Conqueror, Solomon Kane and others into features, has reconnected with all those properties. Malmberg, who last year left the company after 15 years to hatch the producing shingle Cabinet Entertainment, has acquired Paradox Entertainment Inc in a stock deal.

I like Solomon Kane as a character: a bad ass gothic Pilgrim that hunts demons. It's a shame that Van Helsing, and to certain extent Vampire Hunter D, took away the glory from Kane, but this is his chance to reclaim the throne!

Too bad that movie from a few years ago was merely just okay (it's entertaining though) but soon, it'll be forgotten.

Milius knew how to use him and Arnold knew how to give him what he wanted. As compared to Destroyer where Arnold's Conan is suddenly a chatter box.

Conan was scarred from being raised as a slave. Making friends and having adventures opened him up. I liked that. It made him more human.

As a kid I loved Destroyer. I know it's pure cheese now, but I liked the creature effects.

I really liked the Solomon Kane movie. James Purefoy was great in the role.

I really liked the Solomon Kane film as well. Any movie with Purefoy cutting up people with swords is great. Purefoy was also badass in Ironclad.

It's such an underrated gem.

If they ever need to recast Wolverine, Purefoy would be perfect.

He could play most leading-man roles very well.

Solomon Kane was a really under rated movie, it was great and I would love to get a sequel to it.

News on the current state of the production, the reasons behind the delay and which story the screenplay is based upon.

Short summary:

- The production was initially delayed due to a (frivilous) lawsuit over the Conan rights.
- In terms of earnings and franchise portfolio, Universal is in a very different position today than they were when they started "Legend of Conan".
- "Legend of Conan" not longer looks like the surefire hit post-Scharzenegger comeback it did pre-Schwarzenegger comeback.
- The screen story is based upon the novel "Legend" by David Gemmell.

Wow, really! The story is based on "Legend" by David Gemmell! That's like making "Murder on the Orient Express" as a Sherlock Holmes movie! Howard must be spinning in his grave.

What do you think of this?

It seems that Robert E. Howard's stories are not good enough.

If Arnold Conan aint happening, which sucks, I hope he's a major character in the Predator sequel or a Commando sequel (directed by Chris Miller & Phil Lord! With Sigourney Weaver as his estranged wife, they team-up to avenge Jenny's horrible death!).

I really hope we're getting a Conan movie, Arnold or no at the end of the day. :( I really wish the Studios hadn't aped the Momoa Conan flick.

It will happen at some point- studios are far too conservative and starved of ideas for them not to return to Conan at all. It may even feature Momoa again, depending on the trajectory of his career as Aquaman.

With Genisys being a failure I am not surprised the studio has cold feet about reviving Conan although everything I read was Genisys was doomed to bomb once they started writing the story they went with. I still haven't seen it and I am in no hurry to do so.

Conan at least has a chance at being successful. It doesn't try to cash in on the name alone and throw some WTF twist changes at us. Much more straight forward and consistent with who Conan is and that he's no longer young.

Momoa was a better Conan than Arnold. Arnold's movies have nothing in common with Robert E. Howard's creation.

I much prefer Arnold's, mainly because he is much more charismatic and likeable than Momoa. I agree that the character was altered quite a bit, though.

I agree. Arnold's more charismatic than Momoa. I also think Conan The Barbarian is has some well shot scenes and good score.

I think Arnold's Conan films are fun and cheesy escapism full of blood, boobs, and magic. Not anything particularly great, but still fun to watch like movie junk food. If you do a new Arnold Conan then I'd get Sam Raimi, Robert Rodríguez, Michael Bay, or Justin Lin. Maybe give Alex Garland or Pete Travis a shot.
