Arnold Schwarzenegger Returning For The Legend of Conan

Joblo.com is a fairly reliable source for movie news. And if that poster was first released at the Cannes Film Festival, that's also a fairly good indication of its authenticity.

However I don't know how reliable of a source spinoff.comicbookresources.com is, so it might be BS. If it's true that the poster was released at Cannes, then I say that's good news.

It's too bad that Milius had that stroke. I feel like Hollywood is so desperate for proven quantities that they would let him write or even direct this and the poor guy could use the work.

How bad was his stroke? Did it leave him an invalid? Or is he simply partially paralyzed? Does he have enough of his mental faculties to do any writing?

If he still has his wits about him, then I say at least let him write the damn thing. He'd do better than the guy who wrote the Jason Mamosa movie, or Conan The Destroyer.

He's still writing the Genghis Khan movie isn't he? I recall hearing not too long ago that he was working on it and wanted Mel Gibson to direct....

Look for the documentary MILIUS on Netflix.......he has had to relearn to walk and talk. His speech is still bad, he walks with assistance. He has great trouble getting things he wants to say put into proper words in speech and writing.

I don't currently have Netflix, but if I get it in the near future I'll definitely look it up. Maybe see if they have it on You Tube.

Don't know if anyone here is aware that a non-studio Conan film is being shot, based on the Robert E. Howard story "Iron Shadows In The Moonlight".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3153498/

I don't know if it will get a theatrical release or not, but I hope this one finally really captures the Howard- Conan fully. The people behind seem to be
very passionate on the Conan/Howard lore, and are taking advice from Howard-scholar Mark Finn.

Obviously it won't have the budget of the previous Conan films, but hey, look at Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist . It shows how sometimes less can be more.

I'll probably give it a viewing when it comes out.

Could be interesting. If it shows at theaters in the US, I doubt it will come to one in my area...so will most likely see it on DVD or the like.

And that's being made now? All the things about it, including the people working on it, look like they come from the 1970s.

This is all behind the scenes stuff so it's going to look silly without the right... everything although it is low budget but that's part of the appeal.

Here are some of the posts the director, Kit Mallet, has made over at conan.com: http://www.conan.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=10704&page=3

Hello everyone. Director of Iron Shadows here. Happy to see some talk and interest in our film. I can tell you that the screenplay adaptation is very very close the the original REH short story. The ape pictures you have seen is the "stunt" suit which is specifically for fighting and not the close-ups.
We also filmed this movie in a subtle 3D. I have never been a fan of 3D in your face gimmick. I can tell you now it looks visually stunning!
If anyone wants to ask specific questions let me know. I may also post some production stills as well as actual footage.
Kit

Happy to answer all your questions. We were thinking that the release would be late fall of this year. There are several unknowns as to type of release and when. The reason is that this production was a first in many respects. A first "Real" original REH Conan story. A first "non-studio" Conan. And a first in terms of the 3D technology that I created.
I will make sure to keep you all aware as release comes closer.
Yes, production has been in touch with a few REH scholars. I have used all these notes in my direction of this production. I have always loved this genre of films. I have worked on numerous other comic and graphic novels turned film... "300" being the first that comes to mind.
I like to think though that Iron Shadows is more of an introduction to Conan. Battle sequences are not as epic as "300" for example but think we captured the essence of what Conan is to the fans. The Shah scene is something I am extremely proud of. Coming from a "stunt background" (I have worked on a couple big shows) I think you will all be pleased with the action. No Asian martial arts or sword use here. I wanted the sword work to be as realistic as possible.
As far as a screening, well, there are possibilities for that too.
As soon as I know how to attach photos etc I will post some.

Hello Everyone!

I am the writer of Iron Shadows... and sister of Kit Mallet the Director :D I am very excited to be involved in this project and to be working with my brother for the first time!

I know full well what it is like to be disappointed by adaptations so my approach from the outset was: "what would the REH fans think?" I sure do hope that you guys and gals enjoy the film!

If you have any questions or comments, fire away… :)

Tonya

Hi Jeff!

It is my pleasure to engage with the fans! :D

I have in fact read several other Conan stories from REH and am excited to work on the next adaptation. We are looking at other REH's Conan stories and welcome any suggestions from the fans.

I found that REH's Iron Shadows lent itself quite easily to being adapted into a screenplay. There were a few words that stood out as they aren't used today, like "marge", for example, but we shot it with both versions to see how it worked. Otherwise we stuck to the original dialogue.

We chose to do Iron Shadows first as it was logistically the best story to test the market and the small cast worked with our budget. Speaking of budget… there aren't any Jade Temples (as far as I know  ) so we worked around it. The locations in Thailand were gorgeous and as Kit mentioned, the end result is visually quite stunning.

Tonya

Hi Emerald!

I, too, find it amazing that it hasn't been done before... but all the better for us!

Despite the low budget and perhaps BECAUSE of the budget, we are all the more inspired (especially after seeing the footage!!) to continue with Post Production and start planning the next project. REH's Conan stories are great and we look forward to adapting more of them for the big screen.

I haven't seen "Pigeons from Hell" but now I am curious…

Tonya

I'm all for smaller scale Conan. Conan as a thief is one of my favourite concepts, and the raid on the tower of the serpent was perhaps the best sequence in the original movie for me (partly helped by the fantastic music, which isn't on the soundtrack).

Good luck to them but those behind the scenes stills look bad. They should've used the money to create something "original" in the vein of Conan.

Could you elaborate on this? I mean, why shouldn't it be Conan?

The Legend of Conan Producers Hoping for Spring 2015 Start

One project we continue to hear rumblings about online is The Legend of Conan, a direct sequel to 1984′s Conan the Barbarian with Arnold Schwarzenegger once again playing the character, though in the twilight of his years. Last we heard, writer Andrea Berloff had been hired to pen the script for the film, but now, in an interview with The Arnold Fans, producer Fredrik Malmberg says a script polish will be delivered shortly and they’re hoping to start production in Spring 2015.

“We’ll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday,” Malmberg said. “And then we’ll take it to the studio and if they’re happy, we can hopefully start (production) in the Spring (2015).”

Please, Universal! Please be happy with the script! I've been waiting over 30 years for this damn movie! I don't know if I can stand waiting much longer!
