I think thats sort of the point of the movie. Conan is past his prime, just as Arnold is. Thus when called back into action, he no longer is quite as capable with his sword as he was 30 years ago. He may have to rely more on his underlings to win the day.

I loved John Millius' King Conan script about Conan and his son, but I agree. I'd want this to be like Unforgiven of the Hyborian Age.

I don't have a problem with the idea of a successor but as your references pointed out, they can't seem to get them right.

However, Conan has always had a sidekick in the movies. There was Subotai and Valeria in the first one. Then there was Malek and Zula in Destroyer. And of course Mako was in both movies (such a shame he didn't live long enough to be in this one). And a friend of mine pointed out after watching the first movie that Subotai was actually every bit as badass as Conan in that film. Unfortunately the same can not be said of Malek, who was more akin to Joxer in Xena Warrior Princess.

So I don't mind him having a younger sidekick/successor. Maybe his son, Prince Con? If done well, it could be very cool. But I will concede the fact that, up to now, it has not been done very well. . .yet. But just because it hasn't been done well before, doesn't mean it can't be done well in the future. I guess we'll just have to wait to see what they decide to do.

True. But he was also the one who killed the big cowboy in the crapper, so he wasn't completely useless. And the point remains the same, even Unforgiven had a younger sidekick. And if it worked for Unforgiven, it could work for Conan.

I think the movie needs a younger sidekick/successor. Can't picture Schwarzenegger believably hauling ass in a sword and sorcery role now and carrying the movie's action. Maybe a good turn in Genisys would convince me.

Exactly. He can do some heroic feats of strength and what not. But I wouldn't expect him to take on a whole army single handed like in the earlier films. But he can still do some kickass stuff here and there. But the really spectacular action should be left up to Con (or whoever the younger sidekick ends up being).

I would much rather see an older and slower Conan relying on his wits and guile.

I don't even want this anymore. Arnie's big comeback sounded so promising talking about stuff like With Wings as Eagles and instead he's doing crap like Terminator 5.

Sabotage was decent but I have zero faith in this at this point, frankly it's not even Conan except by name and I have zero faith in Hollywood to understand what makes Conan cool. Bleh.
