Brian Grazer: Talking to Netflix About More ‘Arrested Development’

Brian Grazer, whose Imagine TV produces Arrested Development, said his company is in talks with Netflix about doing a fifth season of the former Fox comedy series. It would be the second batch of episodes for the internet-video sub service. Back in May, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said the company liked the idea of doing another season. “If the talent were willing to do more [episodes], and interested in that, I’m sure we would be willing,” he told CNBC back then, citing the show’s boffo numbers on Netflix, which he declined to share. Now in a major development, one of the producers says they’re talking about doing an additional season. “We are in conversations with them to do another,” Grazer said in an interview today with Bloomberg Television at the Allen & Co. conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. “They are interested in doing that.” Press coverage of this major development has speculated Netflix was no doubt encouraged by strong sampling for the new season it unveiled in May, based on Hastings having said it did extremely well while declining to share numbers.

Good for Jason I bet he didn't picture this when the show was cancelled all those years ago? Anybody think any of the other cast should have been nominated?

I honestly feel like Bateman had more to do this season than any of the previous ones. Michael was in such low place, lol.

The way the fourth season ended, if there is a fifth season or a movie, I want it to immediately open with Michael and George Michael both bursting into tears and sobbing uncontrollably. If you look at both their faces before the credits roll, you know it's coming.

Glad to know Mitch Hurwitz feels that the style of the fourth series doesn't suit the show.

Just started watching this show one Netflix. It's an amazing show.

Good to see there's faith from the creator that a fifth season will happen. That doesn't translate into anything official, but it inspires some faith. There was a lot left open for another season. I liked the anthology feel myself. It was odd at first, but the way they worked with it was really brilliant. But I think going back to a more traditional, linear path would be fine, too. Trying to pull that off twice may not work so well.

The challenge, as mentioned, will be getting them all back together again for that.

I liked the Anthology season too. It may not have always worked (Like with George Sr. and Lindsey's episodes for the most part), but I felt that it was still a good and solid season that allowed all of them to fully explore their characters and help them all realize one thing, despite them all wanting to be apart all of the are worse off without each other, especially Michael.

I'm glad that Bateman got nominated for an Emmy for the role for Matt's reasons on the last page. His flaws were always there, but it really came out last season without being around his family who usually tells him when he's being an idiot.

Even if we don't get a theatrically released film, I wouldn't mind one that is released straight to Netflix. And if not that, then just a fifth season.

While I enjoyed what they did with the 4th season, if we do get a 5th I hope that it's more straight-forward like the first 3
