Did Charlie Sheen actually want to leave the show and did everything he could to get fired

or was it a pay raise gamble that backfired on him?

He wanted a raise. He was making $850,000 per episode, but wanted a raise to $1,000,000 per episode. Chuck told him no. Charlie had always been a nuisance on set with his drinking and drug use. When he was denied the raise he lost all control and made a fool of himself and Chuck and CBS fired him. Im sure there was more to it, but basically Charlie just made an ass out of himself.
