Hello all.

First off I want to say I haven't really bought any of the 616 Spidey titles with any regularity since the whole Clone saga. Through the years I just picked up an issue every now and then out of curiosity.

Yesterday I picked up ASM 590 because of the FF4 in the cover. I love Spidey and Johnny interactions but this issue left me confused.

What's with the memory slip? Or is that a big reveal later?

Since this is at least the second time I've seen it, I feel the need to point out that FF4 would be short for Fantastic Four Four. I know you younguns want to turn everything into text messages, but lets be smart about it.

Peter did something with the aid of a "mysterious ally" to make everybody who knew his identity forget... including the FF.

:yay:

Gonna be interesting to see how they try to explain it all.

I'm familiar with the Mephisto deal but not the details. I guess what I'm wondering is does Peter know? Does he remember since he kept telling Johnny to drop it? Wouldn't he be curious also?

Nobody remembers the Mephisto deal... leastways, not Peter (the only person other than Mephisto who might know is MJ, but that's all speculative at the moment).

Peter knows he made some kind of "mystical/scientific" arrangement with someone (more than likely being either Reed Richards, Dr. Strange and/or Loki) that made everybody forget his identity... so when the Torch keeps pushing it, Spidey tells him to drop it for fear of waking up a sleeping giant.. so to speak.

:yay:

It's like saying "DC Comics".

^ Yeah, those bother me, too.

Crap, where'd I put my Metamucil.....

Aloha,
Just read #590. It seems that Reed Richards
knows Peter's face on the statue
.
You figure between RR and Dr. Strange-memory wipe is possible. The Beyonder or Loki also very possible and both would be within continuity.

Here is something I was thinking about recently mainly because Dan Slott wrote this story and is writing Might Avengers. if you don't know in MA #23 the Scarlet Witch was revealed to actually be Loki something that no one would have guessed. I have no idea what the end reveal is going to be in ASM #591, but I think it is going to be something crazy like that that no one could have possibly guessed.

I know this ain't the topic, and I'm with you on FF or F4, ATM Machine and even PIN Number, but DC Comics? Do you guys just say "DC"?

You gotta say DC Comics, no? I guess it depends who you're talking to but if they're not familiar with comic books, you gotta say DC Comics.

Back to Spidey, I'm really liking this arc. I can't wait for the reveal next week. I think with Reed not questioning not remembering Pete's ID, he's got something to do with it. But he was also be telling Johnny to cool it and leave it alone too if he was involved. HHmmm.

Although, I remember an issue of Spectacular, with Doc Ock dressed as Neo from the Matrix, and Spidey was forced to unmask and he had another mask under that. HA! That'd be funny.

Aloha,
Thanks for that bit of info. I've been trying to find out, if the Scarlet Witch was going to undo the end of Mutants. Scarlet Witch as Loki-didn't see that one coming.

But that's cause no one can predict a bendis ending beyond it will be female driven and end crappily.

Well... the DC part stands for Detective Comics... so saying DC Comics is a tad redundant... wouldn't you agree?

:yay:

DC is also a shoe company, if you work in wear house DC means distribution center. DC Comics works cause honestly a lot of people don't even know what the DC stands for unless they read comics. if the person has no comic knowledge DC Comics works. if you are reading a new comic and your friend asks you what company makes it just DC works.

But that's cause no one can predict a bendis ending beyond it will be female driven and end crappily.
I'm assuming you're referring HoM cause Dan Slott wrote Mighty Avngers.

But only diehard fans know this. If you say to someone who isn't a fan "I read DC" They likely won't know what you're talking about. DC Comics makes it easier.

I don't think you are giving people enough credit. As long as 'comics' are the topic of conversation, I think people will know how to decode 'I read DC'.
Especially now-a-days when most comic book movies are introduced with the Marvel or DC logo.

Back on topic though.
I was curious about the ending of ish 590... When the torch says "No way - No freaking way", Is he reacting this way because he recognizes Pete and all of a sudden remembers, or does Peter have a mask beneath his Spidey mask.
Secondly, and this is probably my BIGGEST gripe, why is it that Spider-Man will unmask in front of the New Avengers, but will not unmask in front of the FF. He even goes as far as getting into an argument with the Torch..!!! They all used to be friends, and I would expect that Peter knows he can trust the FF more than anybody else in the MU.
This whole re-masking thing is really really bothering me. I wish he never unmasked in the first place. How long was his ID public for anyways? Less than a year would be my guess. What a publicity stunt.

Well, here's my explanation. Let's pretend for a moment that it has nothing to do with the way Bendis writes Spidey and how Slott writes Spidey. You have to remember one thing, even though spidey was close to the FF4, Reed sorta turned on him during the civil war. Reed was pro-reg and Spidey wasnt with it. I dont exactly know what the current status is of the Registration act but i assume that Reed is still for it (Btw are ALL of the FF4 registered now? They never resolved that did they?). Anyway, Peter probably feels like its risky revealing his identity to them because they are now part of the registration. The New Avengers however are all against it, so Peter feels more at home with them and confides in them more. They would have no reason to reveal his identity....theoretically. Thats just my two cents.

Spidey should never reveal his id to other superheroes. No hero with loved ones to protect should. Heroes are constantly under attack, having their minds scanned and twisted, having their HQs busted into and their databanks compromised. Revealing his id to the FF means it might get into the hands of Dr. Doom or the Wizard.

On the other hand, Peter was always far too fearful of his loved ones knowing his secret.
