Comics Asm# 590

Well, and there a reference that time groes exponentially, so when they are there for a short time, time goes by normal until they stay longer... and it only work in the dimension that they are in, hence why time went so fast after they left...

I'll wait for Slott's explanation as well...

:o

The ending of today's ASM #591 is being spoiled in the press (although more the New York-centric and comic book media than the national media, as far as I can tell - this ain't a "Captain America is dead" situation), so you may want to avoid certain media outlets if you want it to be a surprise.

If you don't want it to be a surprise . . .

Predictable. But oh my oh my, is it ever sweet. If Spidey thought his life was hell before, think again! Hopefully, Marvel won't screw up what is potentially a golden opportunity.:woot:

in 591 there is a few panels of Pete's answering machine while he is in the Macroverse and one of his many messages is [BLACKOUT]"Hey tiger, I...I thought you should know I'm" machine full message erased beep![/BLACKOUT] I don't like the sound of that message at all.

I don't like the sound of that message at all.

I do!:woot:

I actually like the sound of where things are going in ASM with you know who being the you know what. Sounds REALLY cool.

also I was a little disappointed with this issue. they kinda pulled a bait and switch. If you read the issue you know what I mean.

they kinda pulled a bait and switch.

I would have to agree. I like what he did in the issue (especially the unmasking), but it really didn't answer any questions. Just skirted them a little. I don't know if Marvel or DS ever said "This issue will answer the mind-wipe question" specifically. But if they did, it didn't.

Yea i coulda swore DS said that the issue was going to to explain exactly how it works, but instead we got a vague explanation. for the love of god why cant they just put it to rest already?!

yeah I completely agree I liked the issue but felt like we were duped into believing we would get an answer about who "we" is exactly. it would be much more simple if with their brief coverage of the mind wipe they said who the "we" who did it was. is that too hard. it's kind of annoying when they claim well it's been a year we're going to start explaining things and they still aren't explaining things.

ps did anyone see the Joe Kelly video interview on newsarama? he talks a little about American Son arc not in too much depth and also strongly implies he will be writing a ASM story with the Black Cat at some time in the future.

I'm glad that [BLACKOUT]Reed wasn't behind the mind-wipe. I just can't see how his tech could take into account everything. Loki or the Beyonder[/BLACKOUT], on the other hand, make for a much more elegant solution.

Not to mention Dan Slott already revealed/hinted in various interviews how it worked anyway. And most readers, some on these boards and others, discerned that the nature of the mindwipe involved people being unable to put two and two together with regards to Peter and Spidey as well.

They have an promotional image of American Son that has just come out today:

Ya know, Superpro gets a bad wrap. If ya took out all the cliched football catch phrases, he was a pretty decent character. A powered football player dressing up like a football hero ain't no more silly than a science nerd gettin' bit by a spider and dressin' up like one (especially since it wouldn't be till the movie the costume actually RESEMBLED the spider).

So.....??....questions.....

If Pete WILLINGLY unmasks HIMSELF in front of a mirror....does he remember his past too?? Will he remember the devil deal and his soul being bothered by his loss of MJ??

Doesn't anyone else find it cheesy for Torch to be like..."Hi Pete" suddenly after he WILLINGLY unmasks??

Does Pete know he unmasked before and all his other PERSONAL history? Or does he need to unmask again and look at himself to know about himself?

WHAT KNOWLEDGE DOES PETE GAIN BY LOOKING AT HIMSELF???

Will Pete know he is married if he unmasks and looks at himself?

So basically,....now....if Pete flashes someone....they suddenly no longer have a swiss cheesed mind, he heals their mind, and they can remember their history without mental blocks?????!!!

Even better...

If Peter is wearing his regular clothes, jumps onto and sticks to a wall and starts crawling around all over the place, all while in front of dozens of people, none of them will figure out he's Spider-Man. However, if he's wearing his Spider-Man costume, leaps on the wall and wall crawls around, and THEN unmasks in front of those same dozens of people, they'll be able to figure out Peter and Spider-Man are one and the same. Then again...

It's magic! We don't have to explain it. :woot:

So.....?.....

If he hasn't put his spidey clothes on yet or isn't wearing them.....people can't tell who he is until he puts it on and then takes it off again?

If he is naked crawling on a wall, people won't figure him out or mentally remember their past! Too good to be true!

Not to be sarcastic.....but this is......um....dippy and cheesy isn't it???

They won't get their memories back either, unless he puts spidey duds on and then takes them back off, but he can do anything without his clothes on and their minds are not healed from the mental blocks............hmn....

LOL....oh my word....this is actually hilarious.....maybe i should break down and buy my own issues now...??!

So, what does Pete know about his past tho? ANd will he learn more of his past, if he looks at himself in the mirror without his mask?

Yeah,
So what if Carlie Cooper almost walked in on Peter while he was about to take a shower during Character Assassination. Thanks to the magical firewall that protects his secret identity and the fact he wasn't actually wearing his Spidey costume, Carlie would discern that Peter was sticking to the wall due to a combination of soap scum and sweat and that his Spidey costume was a pair of ratty old PJs.

Nobody remembers the deal with Mephisto... What people will remember when Spidey reveals himself to everybody is what they might have already known... Peter remembers his life "as is" up until the end of Back in Black, with the exception that he & MJ were simply a long-term couple, not a married one, so he remembers everything (other than the deal with Mephisto, which NOBODY remembers)... it's seemingly simple to me thus far...

It's definitely Harry in the video interview on Newsarama Joe Kelly says in American Son Norman offers Harry a job and Harry accepts it. plus if it were Flash it would kind of defeat the purpose of the story where he lost his legs.

I really liked this issue, and I'm usually a Bendis-backer, but MAN did the events of this story seem muffled and even contradicted by last week's NA#51. :(

1. This should've been really powerful due to us seeing Peter taking the F4 as the ONE exception to his rule of "Nobody can know who I am". But since we have already seen him reveal himself to The New Avengers last week, it instead feels like "Heck, you trusted The Avengers, why not trust F4?".

2. Peter outright says in this issue "If I tell you I might as well tell The Avengers, too!" And he's able to be convinced to out himself to the F4 by Reed telling him that the same thing can be done to the F4 so his secret will stay safe with them...but Pete doesn't demand the same of The New Avengers.

3. It's established in this week's issue that as soon as someone finds out who Pete is, the memories of once knowing who they were suddenly rush back...but we saw that definitely NOT happen in NA.

Come on Bendis....did you even bother to ask Slott and the rest of the Webheads what their plans with Spidey were? It would've been helpful to do so so that you could at LEAST get the "rules" straight before you contradict them. :(

Ugh. Contradictionzzz.

It's sloppy, to say the least. But the 9-yr old inside me who always longed for a no-prize feels compelled to try and explain some of this.

1. Can't argue with this one. In fact, if the NA#51 takes place after Amazing#591, then Pete lies to the Avengers. He tells them that they're the only ones that know. He now comes off as a guy dating multiple women and telling them all that they're "the one."

2. That's easily explained with an off-panel, "Hey, would you guys mind visiting Reed Richards....."

3. I don't know that that was contradicted here. It wasn't shown, but I don't think it has to be every time. The only one who acts like he never knew before is Clint, and he was busy coming back from the dead when Pete did that. Wolverine wouldn't show much emotion either way, Luke was busy being jealous, Jessica and Bobbi weren't even around, Bucky has no history with him. Carol asks about his connection to Norman, but that's not an indictment either way.

So there you go, more proof that guys like us care more about these comics than guys like Bendis.
