Comics New to Comics

I think you can also get the collection to The Amazing Spider-Man collection on DVD-ROM or something.

If you can find it for cheap, it's well worth it.

Cheap is the key word though, I've seen it on eBay for over 200 bucks. :wow:

This. I am loving this story line. Its all thoughtful and ****. We are also returning to a brutal, pre-nobody dies Spidey. He's gonna get beaten up in his soul for this, and it is gonna be awesome.

Good Spidey readin':

1) Essential Spider-man or Marvel Masterworks. They are the classics for a reason. At least read Amazing Fantasy#15, Amazing Spider-man 1-53, 90-93, and then 100-102, and 121-121. Those are some of the greats! 1-40 is the stuff of legend...

2) Ultimate Spider-Man. The first 5 or 6 hardcovers are phenomenol. At least read the first 13 issues collected in Volume One. GREAT. STUFF. This universe is different than the classic Spidey, but if you are a fan of the current movie incarnation, then you will LOVE this.

3) Spider-Man BLUE. This is a recounting of some classic stories told as a love story about Spider-Man's Second love, Gwen Stacy. Essential reading, and very profound.

4) Kraven's Last Hunt.

5) Big Time

6) MATTERS OF LIFE AND DEATH

7) Spider-Man/Human Torch: I'm with Stupid.

Not trying to troll or anything i just had to fix it sorry lol. But I do agree That is good reading .GO Spidey!!

thanks for the advice guys.

I'll try and pick up the essential Spidey stuff.

Any comments on the 'Ends of the Earth' story arc? And is the Civil War story (this spans pretty much all Marvel heroes though, right?) a good one to pick up?
The Civil arc is a pretty good one to pick up especially if you want more onto what set forth the events that led to ONE MORE DAY and BRAND NEW DAY.

Exactly.

I haven't kept up with the current story arcs so at some point I'm going to get all the books starting with Civil War and onward. Its too difficult to read One More Day though :(

I can make it even easier for you:

- Civil War: Amazing Spider-Man
- One More Day
- Brand New Day

- Big Time
- New Ways to Die
- Spider Island
- Ends of The Earth

I don't think you need the rest to understand it. Maybe OMD because it's referenced a few times.

New Ways to Die isn't necessary. I agree. But SI and EoE are currently at play in current stories. You won't be completely lost if you skip them, but it is helpful to know. OMD and BND (and OMIT, which I left off) are essential to understanding the critical shift in Spidey continuity. Most folks look at the 90s animated series and the Raimi trilogy as their basis of understanding. Very little of the current books reflect those tellings, from JJJs current position, to Peter's romantic life. I stand by my list, good sir.

Heck, even if you stopped reading toward the end of JMS's run, it is still possible to be very confused about what happened. Peter's team affiliations, vocation, living situation, romantic life, familial connections and dozens of other things have shifted because of and since OMD and BND. They may be Marvel's finest example of editorial tampering and bad writing, but they are important none the less.

"Power Ups! YES!"

Best line I've read in ages. I laughed so hard at Curt's expression when he said that line. I do like this story. It has a very 70s Spidey feel to it. More street level, more epic, more pressure without being over-the-top.

Ok so I'm not the only one loving the **** out of No Turning Back? Seriously, all yhe other story arcs are good reads in my book, but this one, I frickin love it! As long as the last issue this Wednesday doesn't suck, this might just be the favorite story arc I own. That's not exactly saying much though, because the earliest story arc I have is Shed haha.

I know It's sad But...You....Muuuuuusssst!

What does everyone think of the Future Foundation storyline?

It is entertaining, but I'm tired of Spidey serving on so many teams. It is an unreasonable commitment. Also, Spider-Man is a street level hero. It irks me to see him in the microverse, off-world and engaged in other cosmic foolery. I'd rather him solo. The only good thing about Spidey joining FF is that he gets a uniform made of UMF Sadly, Dan Slott seems forgetful, because Spidey had his suit torn in his recent scuffle with the Lizard (unless Peter switched back to his old duds, which has not been stated or explained at this point).

It was explained in ASM 648. He wears the FF costume when with the FF and his regular costume when he's solo.

Couldn't be #648 because Peter doesn't get the UFM suit until ASM #658. Anyways, in ASM #666, Peter can be seen switching from his traditional red and blues into street clothes by adjusting the cloaking of his UFM suit into a black long sleeve shirt and khaki pants. Then after this issue, we suddenly see Peter's red and blues getting torn or see him changing pants. It is one of those flubs that could easily be remedied with a single panel and a brief explanation. Otherwise, it makes no sense for him to wear his real red and blues, as they offer no benefit.

In early issues from decades ago, the characters had their own individual stories, but it was still made clear that they all shared the same universe. Here and there you had a crossover. Spider-Man showing up in an X-Men issue was a special guest appearance, and it was a treat. Then there was a Marvel-Team up series that was really cool.

Now I pick up a Spider-Man comic book and I expect to see tons of other Marvel characters, and its just not special anymore. None of the characters really have a series dedicated to only them, and guest appearances aren't that surprising at this point.

Aloha,
Excellent observation:word:. You should write to Marvel.com directly about that or PM Dan Slott.

Hello sir,

I would take that route but Jinx World won't allow me register without a permanent e-mail address. I refuse to use my university e-mail, so I am without recourse as far as directly contacting Dan. i could e-mail spidey fan mail though.

You could PM Dan Slott right on this board... he has a user name here... it's Dan Slott.

:yay:

I thought it was Dan_Slott
@Arach Knight, maybe the UFM suit rides up in the crotch a little bit jk

Done and done. Tough, it may be a month before he sees it. He isn't on Hype too often basedon his posting history.

I have the feeling he lurks a lot and jumps in when he sees it necessary.

I think he's a tad more fickle when he reads his PM's... while he's here more often than not, I don't think he checks his PM's as frequently... but who knows?
