ASM #600! 104 Pages! No reprints! No ads! Now... with CAKE!

I'm kind of curious about the relative ages of some of these characters now that we've got JJJ's father in the picture. JJJ Jr.'s gotta be at least pushing 50, if not already in his 50s, right? So that'd put his dad at around 70 or 80. May, meanwhile, I always thought was maybe 50-something when Ben died, putting her in her 60s now. Is that about right?

I don't know if they've set down an age for JJJ Sr. yet, but I assume he probably has to be at least around that age, unless he had JJJ Jr. when he was really young, like late teens or very early 20s. Then he'd be a little closer to May's age, though still a couple of years older still

there's nothing to fix IMO...and the folks that don't like the current state of things should really stop addressing it as if its fact that something is wrong because it is merely your opinion

I'd say regressing Peter 20 years is a problem that needs fixed. He had grown up over 20 years into an adult with adult responsibilities, created a career, was moving forward in the superhero scene, etc. Now he's back to the swingin' spidey taking pictures etc. It's like the past 20 years never happened. Complete character regression from what I can see, and you don't see a problem here?

And what's the point of bringing Harry back if his stories are all old ones rehashed? In the one arc I really read through since BND it has Harry deal with his father issues, deal with his problems with Spider-Man, deal with a pregnancy, and in the end... deal with drugs. I mean... really?! The only interesting angle was the American Son angle, which was dropped in the end. Oh, and Norman's impregnated another young woman with his super sperm.

Yep the American Son arc was nothing but pure rehash... wait no it wasn't.:)

Thats true about Harry. I mean seriously, we're going to go through the whole Drug addiction thing AGAIN? Doesnt anybody in Peter's supporting cast evolve?

Having the sig "Proudly haven't bought ASM since OMD" is a pretty good sign that you're walking in with a bias against the old ASM and aren’t able to review issues of the current ASM with an open mind.

When you add this to your sig:
"Tellin people to just get over OMD & buy new Spidey stuff is akin to a friend punchin me in the face for no reason & then actin like they don't understand why I won't hang out with them until they apologize"

That is akin to not liking your next door neighbor, but when he moves out and new neighbors move in, you don’t talk to them but continue to have the same grudge for over a year and a half.

Oh, and it's ALSO a pretty good sign that you're walking in with a bias against the old ASM and aren’t able to review issues of the current ASM with an open mind. :)

I don't know if anyone here knows anyone who has dealt with a drug addiction, but it is, in most, cases a long, long battle...you just don't stop doing drugs or go to rehab and are clean for the rest of your days...you fight it every day and certain things will trigger it from time to time....it's not a matter of "evolving", it's a matter of coping

I believe you mean bias FOR the old ASM, not against, but I know what you mean. It sure COULD mean that, or it could mean that I believe in holding a company responsible for doing things that offend me as a consumer. Marvel wants people to get passionately interested in the characters (if people weren't, Marvel would've gone under a long time ago), so guess what, we are interested, and when something offensive is done with the character, we care.

No, it's akin to exactly what I said it is. Or to relate it to your neighbor analogy, what it WOULD be like is if my old neighbors ran an active sewage line into my new backyard. Then new neighbors move in, and they refuse to remove the running sewage line, but then act all confused that I have a problem with that.

Again, it would be a bias for ASM, and AGAINST the current ASM that you're accusing me of.

I already pointed out how your argument is simply not logical. Asserting that my sharing my opinion on these boards and my refusal to pay Marvel in support of an offensive move with one of my fav characters somehow means that it's completely impossible for me to do an unbiased review of future issues is a pretty textbook example of a deductive fallacy (no offence intended, but if you don't know what that means, google it).

It's like if you were to tell me that you think Keanu Reeves sucks as an actor and that you hate the Matrix, and then I were to say you're opinion on the Matrix means nothing, because you're obviously incapable of seeing past your own bias. Just because someone dislikes thing A, does not necessarily mean he will dislike thing B or that he will be unable to judge thing B just because it is associated/affiliated with thing A.

I don't know how to explain it any more thoroughly.

Oh my God, this is like watching a debate in a first year philosophy class. Michael Jackson could have just tuned in here if he wanted some sleep that badly.

No. You're obviously biased AGAINST an old ASM story (OMD) from over 50 issues ago, it's admittedly made you very closed minded about the stories that followed which were put out by a different editorial and a different creative team.

Why even bother reading/reviewing Spider-Man? you know you there is no chance you'll like it unless they undo OMD and they're not gonna. I understand everyone has a right to their opinion and you don't like the current state of AMS so why do you keep reading it?
If you don't like how food tastes do you just keep eating it and clompainig about the awful taste or do you eat something else? Also since I'm using food analogies. Isn't it annoying when you are eating something you enjoy and you decide to share it with everyone and someone in the group goes on a rant about how much they hate the food you're eating and enjoying with everyone else instead of just saying I don't like how it tastes and moving on. If you don't get it comics are food

I was cracking jokes about my beloved grandmother an hour after the funeral.

And frankly, people who die because of the stupid things they do in life should have it pointed out as a cautionary tale. Kurt Cobain is another good example.

Pardon the play on words, but your "sewage" addition is a pretty crappy take on my analogy-- unless you want to compare Peter and MJ's marriage to sewage. So, let's pick something more pleasant...

Let's say your neighbor had a lovely apple tree in his yard that you liked to look at-- and you had fond memories of (maybe you carved you and your first love's names into it). But your neighbor cut it down for what he thought was a good reason. Maybe it was blocking the sunlight from getting into his front parlor? Whatever.

He cuts down the tree. It starts a feud. He moves away. And when the new neighbors show up, you keep complaining to them, "Hey, why did YOU cut down that apple tree?!" And it goes on for a YEAR AND A HALF!

And when they put out new patio furniture, you complain to them, "You could have done that WITHOUT chopping down that apple tree!" And when the new neighbors put nice decorations in their parlor window, you still complain, "You could have trimmed a branch or two and I STILL could have seen that! Why did you chop down that tree?!"

And when the new neighbors find that SAME apple tree and plant it in a different part of their yard, you complain, "NO! You have to put it back EXACTLY where it was! It's in a different relation to the house now! I don't like that at all! Unless it's blocking your parlor window I will NEVER be satisfied! NEVER!"

And then you proudly paint a motto on the sidewalk in front of your house that reads, "Proudly holding a grudge against my next door neighbor since the apple tree got cut down."

It's akin to that. :yay:

Well you do understand the OMD was a very bitter pill for most fans. It make it really hard to read the current stuff unbiased. Personally I stopped reading after a few months into BND because it wasn't really interesting to me. I felt like OMD undid a ton of character development for Peter, and all BND was doing was reminding me of what as a reader I felt I had lost. I recently picked up the issue where Spidey is being controlled by Mr Negative and found that Spideys commentary made me laugh, so I bought it. I also got 600 and enjoyed the story despite my not being that big a JRJR fan (his work seems a bit blocky for my tastes). I haven't put AMS back on my list yet, but I'm keeping an open mind.

Some fans, not most

FVL is an excellent writer! And I totally agree! (BTW, his next arc in Spidey, #602 to #604, is wonderful!)

I also got 600 and enjoyed the story...

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

That's ALL I ask. :cwink:

Hi Mr Slott, can you tell me if you know when we might see Doc Ock again? He's my favourite Spidey villain, and I'm very anxious to see where you guys go next with him after the events of #600, which I really enjoyed, by the way.

The big difference, Kitsune, is that random_havok reviews these issues, in fact gets them early in order to do so. So he's not talking about the fans being biased, he's talking about a reviewer, who has the ability to prejudge the issue for other people, being biased. And if that's the case (RH maintains that he's not biased when he's reviewing), it's a big difference.

Not a problem. I was a big fan of your She-Hulk stuff, though I admit it was probably a case of "come for the boobs, stay for the laughs" :D but hey, that's how I learned that I liked your writing.

Probably beating a zombie equine here, but my understanding is the OMD was editorially mandated, and the person most responsible for that is still around, ie the IEC. I think we can amend the analogy to be holding a grudge against the new occupants of the home because of something the landlord has done. Then again maybe I should stay out of the whole "Dueling analogies" thing.
