I think the "Ock as a major threat" was really set up with this issue...
Remember, somehow, Ock has been a joke in the Spider-Verse since Spectacular Spider-Man #79 (released in 1982), and while I felt that Ock was "threatening", he didn't come off as "over the top" as Dan Slott had us believe.
However, Ock is now out there, dying, as well as mentally deranged in that he's going to come back and do something great AND terrible... and his mental control over electronic devices DOES set him up as more of a threat than a guy with tenticles... Ock's threat level has always been his mind (and in fact, his mind is also his Achille's Heel), so if he indeed has gone over the deep end, that makes him much more threatening than ever before....
