I like the first Mortal Kombat. IMHO, it's not a great film, but it's a watchable little martial arts fantasy movie. It's like Enter the Dragon with some fantasy elements.
I like the cinematic story modes in the last two games. However, if you look at the narratives, they do a lot of silly stuff in order to arrange two sides or opponents fighting each other. Plus all the rather convenient and easy character resurrections. Kill off half the cast in one game? No problemo. So it wouldn't be a simple matter of just turning those campaigns into movies.
Assassin's Creed is all about empowering the player in becoming a cool Assassin in an ancient time period. I mean, it's a cool fantasy power trip at one point. It's like imagining your past lives or where you come from. What if your ancient ancestor was a super BA warrior in an ancient war that goes all the way back to the beginnings of human history? So not only did you have an ancestor that was a badass warrior, you can also live out the memories of that warrior too. That's an amazing concept for a video game. But the key is that it works in a video game because the player is enabled as this ancient warrior who can run around all these iconic cities. You can assassinate a target and then be gone in the blink of an eye.
Hopefully the movie can figure that formula out.
