I'm a more recent fan of Assassin's Creed, but nonetheless I've become fascinated with the game's story (specifically Altaïr's) and am very excited to see how this would unfold on film. For those who know the plot of the original Assassin's Creed, I do think Ubisoft should focus the film primarily as a period action thriller from Altaïr's point of view, revealing Desmond, Lucy, Abstergo, Dr. Vidic at the very end, ending the film essentially the same way the game ended, with Desmond discovering his use of Altaïr's eagle vision.

Anyway, discuss!!

Divided (by way of Dan Brown) By This:

Equals either something really great or really, really awful. Given video game film track records, I'm not going to hold my breath.

As long as it does not end up like the Uncharted movie it could be good

Truth be told, I think AC would make a better tv series than a movie.

IMO, An Assassin's Creed film will only work if it is another chapter in the saga, rather than a direct adaptation of the games plots.

Like say, if the film focuses soley on Subject 16 for example.

As long as Jake Gyllnehall isnt playing the lead, I'm good.

Since people don't like watching videos (awesome, awesome trailer videos), I will try again.

Agreed 100%!

Looking at those pics all together, you do get that AC vibe.

so long as the movie is better than the live action short from AC2, I'll be happy.

Awesome! I hope they do it right. I just got Assassins Creed II the other day with my Xbox 360 so the timing is excellent. I hope Eric Bana or Firass Dirani (underbelly) as Ezio.

The Borgias didn't come in until the Renaissance era stories.

Also, Kingdom of Heaven bombed. Prince of Persia bombed. Just saying.

Kingdom of Heaven bombed because Fox cut out and butchered important scenes from the film which would have explained the movie better to the audience.

Prince of Persia was...just a bad film.

when was this official realesed that Kingdom bombed because people didnt understand the story?

its not like its always the fault from the studio that a movie bombed.

I think it bombed opening weekend because:

1) Most audiences didn't want to see Orlando Bloom as the main lead in an epic drama. His non-Pirates leading roles (and in that he was still behind Depp and newcomer Knightley who devoured him) all bombed and to be fair, as much as I love KOH:DC, Bloom is the weakest link and the movie would have been much better IMO if a Bale or McGregor had played Bailian.

2) While I'm fascinated by the Crusades theme, perhaps Muslims vs. Christians turned some off in 2005.

3) Going into the point above, given Scott's modern views in the film (all religions should be equal and equality in Jerusalem is the answer) created negative buzz with some saying it was pro-Palestinian and, most damning in Bush's America, some scholars who defend the Christian pilgrimage (crusade) movement in a historical sense took offense at the secular message and slapped it with the soundbyte "Osama bin Laden's version of history." That was complete reactionary BS, but it stuck in the media at a time when "us vs. them" was the popular national worldview.

4) Fox DID BUTCHER the film and cut it down from near-perfection to mediocrity when they removed around 50 minutes of character development and storytelling in favor of an action movie. This led to mediocre reviews that likely hurt its opening even more and poor WOM that saw it sank. These cuts were so extreme that Eva Green, whose great in the movie, refused to promote it for they cut out all of what drives her character (her son-king who develops leprosy).

With all that said, medieval epics have not been all that successful and no one has attempted doing a Renaissance epic in a Hollywood blockbuster in I don't remember when. Showtime is doing The Borgias, but that is (a great) TV show that focuses on the characters and other than some impressive Vatican sets, avoids trying to recreate much of Renaissance Rome and Italy. This is something a film would have spend $150 million easily to do for the scope of an AC film.

I'd be weary if I was a Hollywood producer about making a film based on these games.

Yeah Fox has a perfect track record, it's never their fault. :whatever:

Also Scott Adkins should be Ezio.

I'll believe this movie is getting off the ground when I see a trailer. Until then, it's just like Bioshock, Halo, Justice League, etc...

don't worry. It'll probably take place in modern day L.A. and involve lots of karpour and a man trying to stop a drug cartel.

See! Just like the game!

;)

So? Who cares about Altair?:cwink:

I prefer the Crusades setting, but AC2 and ACB are better in every way imaginable than AC1. And that includes having a likable, engaging main character. Altair was just a cipher while Ezio was so likable that they gave him a second game.
