Assassin's Creed Unity Thread

The fact the embargo lifts so late is never a good sign. Dragon Age Inquistion already has their reviews out a week in advance and it is getting 9's across the board. When companies hold back reviews until release day it is not a sign of confidence.

Early reviews seem to be in the 7 range so far.

Lowest I've seen thus far was Polygon with a 6.5.

I was really considering getting this but maybe I'll wait for Black Friday and get Shadow of Mordor instead.

Cancelling Unity, waiting for Rogue to come next gen.

Might get Unity in summer when the GOTY comes.

Tips for Ubisoft: better customer service + female characters in story mode + co-op. Thank you and good night! ;)

It's not doing too great overall (for an AC game). Kotaku straight up gave it a "No" and the average review is about a 7. Looks like Ubisoft slipped a bit.

consensus seems to be a kinda weak story, but a great open world.

Really? The reviews I've read have basically said its pretty to look at but everything feels half baked.

I love Clueless Gamer.

Here's another review:

Rating is "Go for it!"

Assassin's Creed Unity is a big, gorgeous, engaging game. It's one you should play, regardless of your platform of choice. The French Revolution is the perfect backdrop for the series, and Unity plays host to some of the best written characters the series has ever seen.

While some elements were stripped away, for better or worse, the end product is absolutely fantastic. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, Unity feels like a reboot less than it does a sequel, and it does so in the best possible way. I can't wait to see what Ubisoft brings to the fans next year.

it really seems they tried to change a lot of stuff in this one.

Game Informer is the only official review site I care about. They have yet to steer me wrong.

And a few youtube reviewers.

Sounds like it's just more of the same...which is fine if you like AC. Which I do :)

Seems like Rogue is the one getting good reviews.

Yeah its kind of crazy.

I am looking at Rogue much closer right now.

Im torn now. Rogue will be $35 on BF but Im not sure if I should jump on it or hold out to see if they will port it to the PS4 (which I think they will do if it bombs and it is coming to PC)

Game Informer AC Rogue Review said:
For players trying to figure out which game to tackle first when two Assassin’s Creed games release on the same day this year, the answer is to start here. Shay’s story closes a number of story loops left behind on the American front of the Templar/Assassin conflict, and offers a crucial first step into the new European theater of war. Rogue proves why it’s time for the franchise to chart some new territory, but leaves no doubt about why we fell in love in the first place.

On the one hand Rogue sounds like the more stable game, whereas Unity is trying new things and offers a great city to explore. I have no clue which one I should buy.

well, going to get Unity as part of Target's B2G1 free deal. hope it's still in stock by tonight.

I'm open to the new combat system but as Gameinformer stated in their review, the lack of a counter for ranged attacks could be very frustrating.

That sounds like something that was just forgotten by mistake. Countering gunshots by pulling an enemy into the path of the bullet has been basic combat for 5 or 6 games and they decide to drop it now? Just doesnt make any sense unless Im to believe Arno missed that lesson during Assassin training.

I think I'd just get Rogue because the new stuff Unity tries it doesn't sound like it does very well.

At least the boating mechanics should be solid and it seems like there's a decent story if one is seeking that.

Unity sounds like this console generation's AC1. Comes out very early in the new consol's life and tries a lot of new things, but doesnt quite stick the landing. Essentially its a test bed for what comes next. So if Ubi follows the trend the sequel to Unity should be good like how AC2 was.

It sounds a bit like AC3, so I am definitely getting it. But it also sounds like they could have used another 6 months of development time. Which they could of had with Rogue also out.
