I went to a theatre where 8 out of the 11 auditoriums playing SM3 were sold out. I was kinda worried about the crowd being too rowdy and immature, but when the opening scene finally came around they were pretty into it.
There were a lot of laughs (obviously some were not intended by the movie), a lot of gasps, and I sat next to a black friend of mine who was REALLY into it, especially when Spidey went bad. That really helped the experience for me lol. The rest of the audience was pretty into it as well. They laughed at the Bruce Campbell scene and I was impressed so many people started laughing when he first appeared. Most of the Jameson stuff they laughed at too, except for the camera scene at the end.
My Venom fanboy friend didn't like SM3 because it didnt have enough Venom, and "Sandman wasn't necessary." I knew he was gonna be let down because he always hypes up every major blockbuster and ends up unimpressed cuz it doesn't meet his "second coming" expectations lol.
I was very happy with the film as the credits rolled around. I loved the intense moments with Harry and Peter, and most of the scenes with Sandman. I thought Topher Grace did a pretty good job, especially pre-symbiote, with Eddie Brock. I especially liked the scene in the church. And I loved the emotional fight scenes between Harry/Peter and Sandman/Peter. I thought the movie did a good job with the symbiote too. I didn't much like the whole emo thing, but all the other aspects of the symbiote and its host were spot on I thought. And everyone, including myself, loved the cookie scene, it was a nice touch.
All that said, I'm just a casual comic book fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
In my opinion, I thought it was the best comic book movie.
