Granted, I think McFarlane’s stuff is usually a little more geared to the adult collector, but it’s bizarre to think how many kids who’ll want these toys weren’t even alive when the last one was out.

This is what Cameron said and meant.
"We mixed the schedules for 2 and 3 together, based on the types of scenes and the environments," Cameron previously told Variety. "I said, let's just treat it like it's a six-hour miniseries and we're only going to go to Frankfurt once. We're going to shoot all the scenes from 2 and 3 at the same time. That was more or less the motif. Actor availability was an issue as well. Anything that had to be done with a specific actor, we did all the scenes for 2 and 3 together — and a little bit of 4. Because once again, I had to shoot the kids out. They're allowed to age six years in the middle of the story on page 25 of movie 4. So I needed everything before then, and then everything after, we'll do later." Seems like later is finally becoming now.

The trailer for Avatar 2 has been attached to Multiverse of Madness, Top Gun: Maverick, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Lightyear to name a few. More than just "movie nerds" have seen it.

Maverick and Lightyear didn’t have this teaser in my cinema (biggest IMAX in the world btw). Only Thor L&T had it attached

The sheer volume of people on social media who will not shut the **** up about how Avatar isn’t good and had no cultural impact is hysterically funny.

They’re all gonna see the new one.

In terms of revolutionizing 3D and CGI, there's no question. Avatar's success is the sole reason why every major blockbuster was either being filmed with 3D cameras or converted in post throughout the 2010s.

But what I use as a barometer for popularity are simpler things like quotability, for example. It may not seem like something important but if you walk up to someone on the street and say to them "May the Force Be With You," odds are they know that you're making a Star Wars reference. Hell, even Cameron's previous films transcended pop culture in that way with "I'll be back" and "Hasta La Vista, Baby" from the Terminator movies or "I'm the king of the world" from Titanic. That's something I have yet to see with Avatar.

I love the movie and I'm anticipating the sequels but I still see it as more of a technical breakthrough in cinema as opposed to something that caught on and became a huge part of pop culture like Star Wars, regardless of its status as the highest grossing film of all time.
