The Dark Knight Rises Bane

There were some pretty bad characterizations in that show...

But Hugo Strange was not one of them. He was a pretty badass villain. He used his position as chief psychiatrist to perform amoral experiments on his patients and to mess with the Batman. Even when he was committed to Arkham, he found ways to best Batman. Much better than his pathetic B:TAS version.

But Hardy is Bane now, so that means no Hugo.

I want Bane to be able to be his own character, I dont want him to be a protege of the league of shadows or him using Scarecrow's fear gas or anything like that, I just want him to be a badass character who can stand on his own two feet

That would be interesting to see.

Yup, cuz wrestlers are all idiots. Really, this again?

I don't think it has anything to do with calling them idiots. I think it's more along the lines that a good amount of wrestlers probably can't act.

I don't think it's really to hide his identity. Some people put warpaint on, he wears his signature mask.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not

Maybe he was inspired by Batman, but went a different route, crime. It would be great irony.

I agree. John Cena would have been a better fit.

Ha, I don't know what wrestler(if any) I'd consider for the role. I just hate how everybody writes them all off as these lumbering oafs who can't act, even though they have to deliver promos once or twice a week.

Probably being the key word. We'll never find out if they keep getting stereotyped and overlooked for roles.

I think we are going to get a much different interpretation of Bane by Nolan in this movie while still capturing the essense of the character.

Because out of all wrestlers who tried acting, only one actually can and another still somehow managed to "succeed" in acting as well.

Delivering promos for wrestling isn't anything hard for them to do.

Well steroids don't work like you take them and you just get big. You take them and it allows your body to push itself further and stimulates growth while seriously working out. But some kind of adrenalin/Steroid cocktail in the movie verse makes more sense. I'm primed for this because Batman just hasn't had a good ol fashioned beat down since the first film. I don't Bane needs to go unnaturally huge but a guy who can always push himself to the limit and exceed it plus has the IQ to back it up is a dangerous foe. Bane is not Batmans Doomsday. He is not some thug who mashes things without thinking. He is a Batman willing to push himself by whatever means needed to get the job done and sees Batman as that top dog who needs to be fought to rule the litter.

He doesn't need a mastermind behind him. He is fully capable of doing it himself.

That being said, I want to see a damn costume. The Joker and Batman have both discovered that wearing a mask gives off a different meaning then just being a regular guy. I hope Nolan continues that theme with Bane and Catwoman.

Yes. This again.

And, for Christ sake, it wasn't so much a slam against wrestlers as it was against his portrayal in B&R. You really jumped the gun there.

A decent mask explanation is that he was wore it while in a underground fighting circuit in prison during his rise and he uses it as a symbol.

Seriously, what's with all the changing of his character suggested? There's nothing about Bane that doesn't work in a Nolan movie aside from Venom making him look like he's half man, half monster truck. Venom isn't ridiculous, it's a drug that's like a super steroid. A lot more plausible than a microwave emitter or fear gas. Non-Venom Bane in the comics isn't that much bigger than Batman.

I prefer they drop the venom, though I agree it's perfectly possible to adapt it to these movies. I just feel that Bane's always been better without venom.

Bane's philosophy has always been that he should be the best human he can possibly be, that his birthright is to be the best humanity has to offer--and venom would be like cheating to him.

He obviously has to wear a mask of some kind, though preferably not the rest of his comic outfit, haha.

I have a feeling that whatever size Hardy ends up as, there will be much whining.

Of course but I think Nolan will have Hardy go for the lean muscular look.

Plus, he realized a long time ago that it's actually a huge handicap for him at its core, rather than a strength.

I think he should be a big bruiser. Bigger than he was in Brosnan, and more cut as well.

But then again, the Venom drug is almost certainly not going to be included, and the Mexican wrestler look isn't likely to be there. So who's to say that he should stay big?

I don't see why. The bulk he put on as Charles Bronson would be fine for Bane.

There's this movement on SHH to portray characters who they ARE, VS who they were, and then who they can be. I blame Marvel movies.

Why skip Bane's Venom addiction? It's a compelling, fairly unique character element.

I'm kind of wondering if maybe Nolan won't use Bane to scratch his Black Mask itch a bit.

I can see a version of Black Mask's...er...mask being used for Bane's mask. And they do share at least a couple of vague similarities.
