Not a single one of those actors is nearly as prominent in their MCU movies as Zendaya has been in Spider-Man so far. They made a huge deal in the marketing about her being in FFH and Homecoming. No one even remembers Elba in Thor, whereas Zendaya is now known as "Spidey's teenage gf" by mainstream audiences.

I had to re-check the location of this thread as another in DC Film forums but for The Batman some of these castings (unless supposed to be Barbara Gordon before she's Batgirl) are a little weird. I know later animated versions of these characters have them essentially as kids fighting alongside Batman but live action wise I'm not sure this is the best route.

I mean if it were CW or maybe a film done in the vein of Spykids or to a certain extent Holland's Spiderman is one thing but for The Batman live action tentpole adaptation aimed at a wider age range I do wonder what can be gotten away with compared to a cartoon.

By the time JK Simmons was cast as Gordon it had been 7 years since his last Spiderman appearance and he looked much, much different. Your average joe probably didn't recognize him in JL.
Zazie Beetz is not playing a gigantic staple character.
I don't even know who Randall Parks is and where he appeared


And Jeffrey Wright is only the voice of Watcher, don't be ridiculous.

Zendaya was just in a billion dollar film playing a character that had her own posters and that was heavily mentioned in social media. A character she'll very very likely play again. A character that probavly wouldn't look very different from her Barbara Gordon. Not even remotely the same thing.

Also: There are other brown girls that are not Zendaya. She doesn't need to play Batgirl when she's already MJ. Bring someone new.

I doubt Barbara will show up in this film. The DC films are rumored to be back to being independent of each other. If they are planning on making a Batgirl film in the near future then they may not want to introduce another version of the character in this film.

Anyway Thandie Newton's daughter Nico Parker (from Disney's live action Dumbo film) would be my pick.

Keep in mind this isn't one of my wild speculations, it's something THR literally mentioned when Pattinson got cast.

I think it's the opposite. Reeves gets first dibs on Barbara, holding out whatever WB was planning on doing with her before. That may be why we haven't heard anything about Batgirl through the trades in awhile. If they're smart, they'll build Barbara up in Reeves' trilogy and then spin her off, using the version of the character that audiences are invested in

Not much point introducing a young actress in a minor role on the off chance the film is successful enough that a few years later (at the least) she may get a spin off film. WB did this with the Justice league characters before with mixed results. Seems like a unnecessary gamble.
Also isn't part of the reason they are rebooting the film because they don't want to be tied down to the previous continuity. It wouldn't make sense to do the same thing with Batgirl.

What is it that have we heard so far that negates Barbara being in these movies? Reeves was pitched a trilogy, we don't know what his plans are for movie 2 and 3. All we know is that he's mostly adapting the Long Halloween storyline. The basic story of it -- which means he can use any which one of Batman's characters that he wants and Barbara could just as easily be one of them. Barb is a Batman supporting character decades before she's Batgirl in the comics

This is Batman early in his career, pre-Robin. Just because we aren't getting a Batfamily in this movie doesn't mean we won't in a future film. Again, Reeves is doing a trilogy. And for all we know, Dick Grayson could show up in this film. Everything is up in the air at this point.

And I wouldn't take THR's "grounded" take to heart. As that could mean any number of things. Least of all, having no Robins

And? Grounded doesn't mean "realistic". Jon Watts used the word "grounded" to describe Spider-Man: Homecoming. That movie was anything but realistic.

Grounded does not mean the absence of fantasy i.e Nolan
