Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 1

I don’t mess around with my favorite character’s future.

I really think he'd be great :hehe:. An oddball choice obviously but it would be more interesting than seeing the usual fancast. But eh Disney won't let him go anytime soon, so this is just fun talk.

You kinda want an obvious horrid choice to loom over this series, at the expense of the best comic book character’s reputation... for a quick laugh?

Ya’ll are determined to bring DC to the dark ages. Don’t wanna hear moaning when we’re in our 40s and 50s with no new films in sight. :o

You know, I'm not wild about Driver as a choice for this character either, but I'm a little tired of this kind of stuff in the casting threads.

Sometimes it isn't about tanking a movie just for a laugh. Sometimes it's about yearning for an opportunity to shut up the same kind of people who pitched a fit about Michael Keaton's casting almost 30 years ago.

None of us here are casting the movie and none of us here have perfected the art of casting. A seemingly perfect choice for the role could take a big hit if the script/director aren't right, and a very unconventional choice, one none of us could ever imagine working out, could flourish in the right hands.

Someone on an internet message board wanting Adam Driver to play Batman doesn't pose an existential threat to the future of these films. They pose an existential threat to your not being trolled for being too uptight about internet casting choices.

I know people bring up Jake Gyllenhaal a lot for Batman, but I see him more of a Jim Corrigan/Spectre.

Apparently a blatant smiley wasn’t enough to clue you in on sarcasm, eh?

I’m never in a million years going to champion Driver for this role, but doesn’t mean I’m totally opposed to an unconventional pick either. Keaton’s still my favorite Batman to date, so I’m hardly one to moan about source fidelity.

In any case (if I’m actually taking this casting suggestion seriously), just because talent is being cast doesn’t mean it isn’t casting blindly. There are about a dozen roles I can easily picture Driver inside the bat-universe. When those are expensed, I can still stretch to another dozen and not come close to what I see for Bruce/Batman.

There is way too much talent and appropriate picks for the character before you go to him. I mean, have FUN with discussing it, but that’s my two cents.

if they can't get Gyllenhaal, they should honestly go for an unknown.

Unrelated but BossLogic just made this picture of Gyllenhaal as Marvel's Moon Knight. Hmmm.

has Gyllenhaal spoken about the rumors?
Conveniently he has no reason to be out speaking with the press, so there's no real opportunity to do so. We might get something during the Golden Globes or Oscars, if an interviewer there is knowledgeable of the rumors.

Realistically, the less that an actor says, the more I think there's an actual possibility there.

When it's someone like Tyrese going online saying "I WANNA BE JOHN STEWART! I WANNA BE JOHN STEWART! I WANNA BE JOHN STEWART!" that just makes me think... well that guy is clearly never going to be John Stewart.

it'd be so hilarious if he got the role (for at least an appearance on the Flash)

I so want JG as Batman now. Though he also has lots of people who want him as Moon Knight (which seems to never be happening).

Given that whole ridiculous Fast & Furious Feud that’s been going on, I fully expect the Rock to make an announcement any day now that he’s decided to relinquish the Black Adam role so that he can appear as John Stewart in a Green Lantern movie. Just to troll Tyrese.

That'd probably be more fitting tbh. Black Adams requires a certain edge I'm not sure he's got.

Yeah, I agree. I feel like the Rock is better when playing just all around good guys or military-type hardasses. Black Adam is more complex and I’m not sure he has that in him.

The Rock is literally doing all the action and action comedy roles in Hollywood.

How different does Reeves want to make this Batman from Affleck's or Bale's BW/Batman?

We don't know yet. I personally would like to see something more comic booky than Nolan's version but not as cartoonish as Affleck's version. There has to be a comfortable medium in there somewhere.

This

There’s definitely a sweet spot in the middle there somewhere and I think the chances if Reeves finding it are pretty high.
Honestly I think his apes movies are a good example of the right tone.

I don't know that I'd consider Affleck's cartoonish. At least not overall. I just think there was a lack of ambition and conviction in the version of this character that they were putting forth, mostly due to who WB allowed to craft him in the first place, and what we got just looked like jumping back and forth between extremes.

Reeves' Apes movies were a bit somber and depressing at times, if I dare say. So I hope his Batman movies are more energetic, for the lack of a better word, than those.
