Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 1

God that suit looks horrible with that weird shoulder posture.

There were reports that the studio wanted to rewrite the script, which they did. They didn't care for the direction it was going in with Deathstroke. Ben couldn't make the Batman and direct it at the same time, which is what he wanted to do (or maybe he was pressured into it by the studio).

Do you recall where you saw that? My understanding is that the script wasn't finished for them to have an opinion one way or another.

Sooo true. Smug is the perfect way to describe Damon and Affleck on and off screen. And it's the only thing they know how to do well because it's basically who they are in real life.

Damon is smug with that added air of arrogance about him. Affleck seems more like a regular joe. Still a smug prick but sometimes fun to have around and/or simply tolerable. Damon is the kinda smug that just makes me wanna give him a back hand across the face just for looking in my direction.

Matthew Bomer or Luke Evans might have been good options years ago.

Gyllenhaal is the best option. Hands down. But I doubt he wants to do a superhero film. He's been gunning for an Oscar in recent years.

Then again maybe he wants to change things up. He's only done like 2 blockbusters (Day after Tomorrow and Prince of Persia) but those were ages ago.

Gyllenhaal does in fact seem to be the best choice as far as casting goes but then it is ultimately up to the DC/WB brass

Personally I hope he gets it because honestly Jake should have played Batman years ago instead of Bale

Batman Inc. confirmed.

Manuel Garcia Rulfo as El Gaucho, Luke Evans as The Hood, Daniel Kaluuya as Batwing and Tahar Rahim as Nightrunner.

Nah. Jake was too young and inexperienced at the time. Some ppl here are still complaining that he's more Nightwing, imagine then. In 2004 Jake looked like a teenage Robin or Spider-Man.

It was Bale's time and thank god for that. He made history. Hopefully now is he time for Gyllenhaal.

Yeah Gyllenhaal is much more seasoned as an actor in fact he is probably one of the greatest of his generation which is why if he is cast as Batman then DC will hit the motherload

Agreed. He still looked like a kid when B.B. came out and he wasn’t as seasoned of an actor as he is now. After seeing him in Nightcrawler, Southpaw and Brokeback Mountain, I think he can play just about anything. If WB doesn’t cast him as Batman, they should cast him as the Joker.

So I rewatched Prisoners yesterday(fantastic movie btw), and I couldn't stop picturing Gyllenhaal as Bruce Wayne/Batman. I actually have trouble seeing someone else in the role now and would be truly disappointed if he wouldn't turn out to be Batman.

I have an easy time picturing him in the role as well. Deepen his voice a bit as Batman and he's about as perfect a candidate as you can get.

Such a good movie. Still disappointed that Denis Villeneuve didn't end up being the guy for this Batman. I like Matt Reeves but I feel like Denis would have given us something on another level. Combine his filmography and you basically have all the elements of a Batman movie.

Villeneuve and Gyllenhaal reteaming for the third time to make a Batman movie. Imagine that? Maybe it could work for a sequel.

Yeah, Prisoners was the movie that made me really want to see Jake for Batman. And then WB announced Ben Affleck. Ugh.

And he still does look like a kid. Both he and James McAvoy have very youthful features, and to me, both being almost 40 hasn't changed their little boy facial features. Nothing wrong with it, but JG just doesn't possess the look needed for Batman. He still looks like bubble boy..haha. Is he a good actor? Yes, no denying that...But, I mean, it is what it is to me. Would I be up in arms if he were cast like some around here if Affleck returned? No of course not. Maybe JG would surprise me, but I'd prefer a few others take a crack B-man.

You don't think those features would play nicely for his Bruce Wayne image?

I honestly don't know. My immediate thought is no, but I would love to be proven wrong. I haven't seen him in anything that screams Batman to me but that doesn't mean he can't do it. He's just a giant question mark for me.

It sure would be nice to know who some of the other potential candidates are, not to mention how far along the script is.

I would as well, for sure. I know when Reeves came aboard he decided to work on his own script, but not for the reasons Shauner would like to plaster as truth. It was simply part of his deal when signing on to direct. So i'd venture a guess that since he didn't start on Batman until after his promotional duties of Planet of the Apes were met, he's not very far along.

I did mention a few weeks back that I read/saw a video where two actors were mentioned to be on his list to have a dialogue with, but for the life of me I couldn't find it so it's not worth mentioning the names any longer.

If that's what a kid looks like to you, then I wonder what the grown men in your life look like!

Wowow..Are you guys on his payroll or what? Opinion is opinion. Burn me alive why don't you. If you guys can't handle others opinions, why be here? Especially you, Shauner. I'm not going to go as low as you are clearly capable of.

Well what's stopping Gyllenhaal from having stubble or a short beard in the role? I thought people were over the "clean-shaven Batman" look anyway. I seem to recall that being a big positive for fans with Affleck's Batman.
