Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 1

How does that work? Is Flashpoint the end of the DCEU, with Reeves’s movie a reboot? Or is the new actor a continuation of the same Batman? If so, will they explain away his physical difference? Or will it just be a straight recast, but no reboot?

I really don't want to get ahead of myself, but I keep going back to the possibility of a Matt Reeves Batman trilogy. If Reeves does decide to make a trilogy, and he takes three years between films, Hamm would be pushing 60 by the time they were finished. Not sure if I'd be up for that.

If this had been even five years ago, I'd be all over it. And honestly, if he was cast tomorrow I'd still probably be very excited about it. I just figured after the whole Affleck fiasco, they'd try to avoid longevity issues with the next actor.

And that's the same reason why Hamm won't work as Reed Richards either. Marvel will want Reed long after F4 have their trilogy

That is interesting. I do recall that El Fanboy report (Who seems to be more accurate than not) that Reeves Batman films will most likely not be a reboot or standalone, but a continuation of the JL Batman but with less of the "I'm too old for this" here and there. Honestly, I hope that is true and they just do an easy segue of actors if Affleck is indeed pooping out.

I mean, if Reeves wants to keep rolling with an older Batman, I suppose Hamm would work. Liam Neeson's still kicking ass well into his sixties. Plus, if Nightwing does get off the ground and is successful, you could always do a Batman trilogy with Hamm and then have him pass on the torch to Dick at the end.

Hamm works if they're continuing with the Affleck portrayal. But he just doesn't have the longevity that Armie or Jake have.

Hamm totally has the look though. Pre BVS, I wanted Hamm as Batman and Dafoe as Joker.

Yessssssss, Hamm as Bruce in the trilogy. Introduce Nightwing and Tim as previous Robins,. and then introduce Damian in this trilogy, leaving us after the trilogy is over with Dick as Bats, and Damian as Robin

You won't hear me complain much if Hamm was cast. But I would feel very sad if Jake never got to play the character, just because the studio wanted Bruce to be older, in order to fit with the DCEU crossovers. Cuz what if Flashpoint fails and they really pull the plug on JL2, and they're stuck with Hamm for three batman films? They may be kicking themselves, thinking "why didn't we get the younger Jake Gyllenhaal and just forget about replacing Affleck?"

It's a wiser decision to reboot at this point.
