Batman Forever

I know, I think the Batman Forever trailer is so awesome because it uses the Elfman themes from '89.

I suppose, but god I would love to see the film re-edited to Elfman's theme as well as Two-Face's escape fom Arkham and a more in-depth look into Bruce and the "book". I would also like to see the scene where they explain how the sonar modified suit wasn't destroyed by Riddler.
Oh well, hopefully someday we will get a director's cut...

You mean something like this?

I'm working on the whole film!

Hows the cut coming along Kevin?

Slowly but surely. It just works so much better with the deleted scenes back in - well, most of them. The hair salon thing I'm still trying to work out how to use, because it explains why Batman can't catch the Riddler and Two-Face during their crime spree, but not completely. It doesn't tell you the Riddler is sending the wrong signals to the Batmobile, so I'm trying to find a way to atleast imply that.

And also, "A little off the ears, Batman?" - there's no way on earth I'm using that! It's just going to be Batman races in, quick shot of the salon, reaction shot of Batman, and done.

I like the music cues--and the different opening titles. It creates a much better atmosphere when the WB logo doesn't morph, and the color scheme gives it more of a bite. Good work so far.

Thought I'd make a thread for it, since it's not that bad, and I like it 'cause Robin finally made it into the movies, too bad B&R got really out there and ruined the series.

But as far as BF goes it's not that bad, I liked how it got more into Bruce's head, that scene of him facing the Bat in the deleted scene should have been kept, it's so beautiful, as a big Batman fan seeing it is almost like a religous experience.

I just bought BF the special edition at Circuit City, I just watched it. I should have bought the Anthology but I didn't want B&R, so I had the first 2 specials now I have the trilogy, I don't consider B&R as part of anything.

Val was good as Batman and Bruce, at least Val did a good Batman voice where as stupid Clooney didn't even bother.

Clooney ticked me off when he said he was a big fan but then recently on some talk show he said oh if I would've known he was dark and moody I would have done that. Well, if he was a fan or even saw any of the previous films he would have known that, what a fool.

Jim's Riddler is cool too, in the respect it's kind of a tribute to Frank gorshin, but it's also half Jim Carrey being Jim, but still cool, I could do without that silver costume at the end, they should have just kept him in the green tights.

I really enjoyed Batman Forever, as I have with all the Batman films. My biggest complant would probably have to be Two Face. I definitely liked getting into the Mind of Wayne, the red notebook scenes were great, I wish they had put the concluding deleted scene back into it but the giant Bat looked terribly fake. I also liked "The Bat Must Die" deleted scene, that's one of my favorites. The Batmobile was cool besides the giant fin, I liked the up the wall scene. The acting was all cool. I liked the environment(yes, the neon) As I've said before, I thought the Riddler was a little too y'know in parts, but most of what Carrey did was great. The action in the film is cool. But one other thing I didn't like were the suits, I hate the rubber nipples and the organic 6-pac. Overall, I thought this was a pretty neat film even though I like to rip into it sometimes, just for a little fun.

Everyone stay calm, this is only a good old fashion stick up. We're only interested in the basics, jewelry, cellular telephones, hand them over and no one will be hurt.

In the first half of BF, Batman fighting Two-Face was so good, it was ruined by enterance of Robin and Riddler however, BF is better B&R that's for sure.

Wow that's nice!
I would have loved to have seen that main cast (minus dead badguys) do a couple of Batman movies with a real director... We might get some of the best BATMAN movies EVER MADE!

I never liked Clooney myself.... Kilmer was awesome as BATMAN!
He was right there with Keaton.

Nice artwork, regarding the above illustration.

As for the film itself, here's my thoughts.

1) As a whole, this is by far my fave film from the original '89-'97 continuity. I just get a huge kick out of it. I also liked the original, but for me that movie was mostly about Jack as the Joker; I found it rather difficult to show any long-term interest in anyone but the Joker and Alfred. Keaton's performance just seemed really depressing.

2) My first concern with "Forever" deals mostly with the character of Chase Meridian. I know she's the love interest, but she's so frickin' brazen about things. I mean, c'mon; how many unmarried women do any of you know personally, who sleep naked with nothing on but a sheet? Highly unlikely, in my opinion (same goes for the "false alarm" at Gotham Police HQ). Also, she seemed a little too defensive at times (stuttering at the circus when Bruce asks her to go rock-climing, for example). I know it's not supposed to be a huge deal in the context of the story, but nevertheless it bugs me a bit, even nowadays.

3) I absolutely loved both Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey in this film. "The Fugitive" is one of my faves, as is "The Mask", so this was a sort of dual-treat for me, in terms of the actors involved. I loved the whole "Somebody tell the fat lady!...she's on in five..." line, as well as Harvey's diatribe about "the random toss" to the helpless security guard. Plus, they worked well together, as shown during the first Riddler scene in Harvey's hideout ("Is everyone paying attention?"). I laughed so many times, and scenes like that still make me smile.

4) Chris O'Donnell as Robin. I was initially very skeptical when they cast him, because the only thing I'd seen him in before was "Fried Green Tomatoes", and to be honest I didn't know what to expect. But his emotional performance - anger, rage, sadness, a desire for justice over revenge - just sent all my assumptions right out the window. When he has that brief fight with Two-Face, you really find yourself cheering for him...incredible.

5) Michael Gough: words can not describe how great this guy was in all the films. Kinda sad he wasn't in Begins, but I suppose he's getting rather old for it now (he is 92, after all). one of the very few moments in "Batman & Robin" that I actually enjoyed was the whole "McGregor's Syndrome" subplot, with Alfred falling ill. Great arc for the character, and one of my fave moments featuring Mr. Gough.

A thread about Batman Forever? Saying it's not as good as the first two but not as bad as Batman & Robin?

Whatever next?!

lots of potential, especially in the original script. Strip away the neon Gotham, over anatomically correct suits, remove the glowing insides of the batmobile, take out some corny lines, add in more scenes with Bruce dealing with his parents death and his ultimate resolution and you've got quite the Batman movie

Thing i don't get about Forever is, for example the "ill get drive threw" line... Did they really think anyone on the face of the planet was going to laugh at that? I bet there was actually no one at all that laughed at that line. Ones Lines suck but even more so if they aren't funny.

I bet the middle-aged mothers of America laughed.

Two Face's purple half was just pathetic. It looks so stupid and ridiculous! Tommy Lee Jones merged with a psycho Barney or that purple mushy thing at MCDonalds.

I didn't think it looks stupid to be honest, I mean it could of been better but I never stopped to think "this looks ridiculous" when watching BF.

Well, Rick Baker's original make-up was better!

I'm surprised McDona.....I mean, Warner Bros. let Schumacher even use a villain with his face scarred by acid.

I liked B&R better than this.
You know why? Because unlike the former, which was so bad, I look at it as a parody, the latter keeps a serious tone throughout the whole with it's mediocrity.

If I was Joel Schumacher, I'd be pleased. No-one ever seems to post that they hate the storyline, or character development, editing, resolution, climax, etc. The important things. People mainly complain about details, like nipples, colours and jokes.

This is on at 8:00pm on sunday on Channel 5 for those of you in the Uk. :o
