Batman Haters - Do They Exist?

Haha funny you say that. I'm not familar with the current batman stuff, right now I'm reading all the work from the 70s-80s.

That's because no one's successfully written Bruce Wayne in the past 20 years. Go read a comic from the 70s, and Batman is the most awesome character there.

This. Grant Morrison is the only one who comes close, but even then, his books are primarily batman oriented.

But unfortunately, Grant Morrison's good Batman is contrasted by his total inability to write morally ambiguous characters and his "pick and choose" tenancies.

I don't particularly find Morrison's Batman all that interesting.

me either. Bats was better in the 70's and 80's. There are some 90's and post 2000 stories that are great.

Honestly, if you want good Batman, well there is a lot to choose from, but Strange Apparitions would be a great starting point.

I really wish they'd collect more of the 70s comics into TPBs.

Yeah, I could just go back and buy the backissues...but that requires actual effort on my part, so I'll probably never do it.

you can buy the hardcover volumes of the Neil Adams books. It has every Batman story done by him. Expensive though

How are they recolored? Darker, lighter? Do you have a comparison pic, I'd love to see one.

I love the recoloring of The Killing Joke. And honestly, I feel that many Batman comics from the past are way too colorful. "A Death in the Family" is a very dark story yet the coloring feels so so off for me. The palette should have been darker like TKJ. Another is "Knightfall" trilogy. I first read it and thought it was made in the 70s because it was so colorful. It's a dark story with a ridiculously colorful palette. There's this one panel I remember where Gordon's coat and hat are painted bright red and Bullock is wearing green jacket with light blue pants. It's ridiculous, the characters coloring is just as colorful as the Joker's. But I did get use to it, but on first viewing I couldn't stand it.

I don't have any on hand. Might wanna google it. But they did a digital recoloring job and it looks very digital, which is distracting as it doesn't look natural. It also removes ALOT of the atmosphere that the original books had. It's one of the reasons I didn't like the Dark Horse reprints of the original Marvel Conan comics. The digital color job is awful.

I don't really like the recolored Killing Joke. The original colors really add to the insanity of the story and actually helps the story a great deal. The new subdued colors don't really add anything, atleast to me.

About TKJ, the colors in the original pop out, I love it myself. Just also really like Bolland's edition as well. I like to go back and forth, last time I read it I picked up the original and next time I'll read Bolland's edition. The only thing I don't specifically like are the colors of Joker's vacation clothes. Bolland did not make them look good at all, I much prefer the original bright coloring and Joker's red socks. As well as the infamous "hahahaha" page.

But Bolland's color did add to the nuance of the story. Specifically in the flashbacks that he made black and white. When Joker is talking to the man about purchasing the condemned theme park- he looks into the crank machine and sees his reflection and it is black and white except for his bright red lips. In each black and white flashback there is a single element that is some hue of red, and with each flashback, the presented elements(such as the crayfish) grower greater in shades of red until we get to him pulling off the red hood mask...the only flashback panel with full color(but washed out) and his bright grin is blood red in progression with the little things throughout the story.

Let me be the first to kick you guys off your mountain. I hate Batman. Everything about him sucks ass. He's the Twilight franchise for men.
:doom: :doom: :doom:

And applying this:
No, Twilight is for women, what porn is for men. Unrealistic depictions of the opposite sex that only serves to make you sexually aroused with no satisfying conclusion.

Would lead me to conclude that Batman isn't Twilight for men, but Sex And The City for Men. Since Twilight = Porn, due to the unrealistic depictions of the opposite sex, then we're looking for unrealistic depictions of the same sex, in this case dominating and sexually active (business? never watched it) women that make women feel empowered, and uber-trained and super-heroic, beast-motif wearing man that beats bad guys into pulp with his bare hands makes men feel empowered. I'm just tripping. Although I AM a batfan. This kind of thoughts are always interesting to expand.

So, Twilight = Porn, Sex And The City = Batman. All right guys?

Reality check time

We are all different. We are supposed to like different things. Yes a great majority of people do love Batman(as shown by how many people went to see TDK). However the fact remains that just because someone doesnt like Batman doesnt mean they should be shunned or laughed at. Its opinions

Interesting analogy, and definitely a point worth arguing.
