I want Affleck to be bigger than Butler was in 300, you're right Butler's look in 300 is insanely overrated and exaggerated.
A lot of the 300 guys physiques have become somewhat overrated. It's a fact that body-make-up was applied to most of them to sort of exaggerate the look of defined muscles.

You can definitely tell there's a good deal of muscle shading going on here:

That's an unfortunate picture of Butler I think. Some make-up might have been used some of the times, like for dark lighting or days when he was slightly puffy, remember he had to basically give a physique shot for 16 hours every single day for a 3 month shoot duration so he could be puffy on some days, requiring make-up. But for the most part, it was his actual physique without any make up.

Check out the set pics below. You can see that he does not have any make-up on.

Check out this behind the scenes video. His definition is completely real.
On the 300 blu ray, you can watch the entire film in the blue screen mode without any of the visual effects or backgrounds or grain or color grading added and you can see the footage in crystal clear quality just as it was shot on set and you can see that Butler was actually that cut. It's the ultimate backhanded compliment, he looked so ridiculous in the film that people thought there was something behind it but he actually got that cut.

I would like to see ben get more buffed up. Because of his height if hes too lean it will make him look tall and lanky but with abit more mass i think it would look good and less noticeable of him towering over people.

If you have seen The Town, you'll know that Affleck can buff up his physique for a role if it is needed. I'm sure he'll do the same as Batman, probably even moreso.

Oh he'll look great shirtless, no doubts there. Snyder's leading men always do.

I'm sure Ben is working out even now for the role. He should look great by filming time.

SO IT BEGINS...

Apparently Affleck has started his workouts for the role currently training 2 hours daily.

He has a good 6-7 month window to peak out. I think it'll be a healthy competition between the two guys - Cavill and Affleck - as they each try to get in the best possible shape for the film.

We can only pray Cavill doesn't get lazy and feel like his proved what he had to prove.

That would be quite an accomplishment! That's still the gold standard in many ways.

Though depends upon genetics too.

Na it isn't the Gold Standard anymore not when you Jackman, Hemsworth and Cavill in the fray.

He definitely hasn't gotten lazy, infact Mark Twight has already stated his work with Cavill. And to show you that he isn't missing a single gym session, when Cavill flew to Tokyo day before yesterday for a day of promotion ahead of Japenese premier, he flew Twight along! The money these guys spend!

Regarding proving anything, Cavill might skip the shirtless scene and let the spotlight on Affleck this time around who will surely be doing a shirtless scene. So Cavill might get big to fill the suit, but not hyper-cut like MOS if he doesn't have a no shirt scene.

I can't wait for his Interview in Mens Health where he will say 'yeah I put on 30lbs of Muscle in 5 months by just hard work and chicken breast and broccoli'

That's where the muscle comes from, don't you know? :oldrazz:

Affleck seems to be in better shape than Butler (since people are bringing him up in here) already, according to recent photos, my bet is he might be easily on par with Cavill by shooting time, he'll have no trouble getting there, dude is already in great shape.

He already looks pretty well-built. He has a great base to build upon. Can't wait to see his Batman physique.

At least he doesn't have to start out from this :D

The 3 you mention have great results but I think it was Butler in 300 in 2007 who raised the bar and everyone after that had to match that. He hit the jackpot of aesthetics with 300, looked like a brutal god really.

And Leonidas is one of the physically demandings role in recent memory. Cavill dieted for 6 weeks for his no shirt shot, Jackman dehydrated for days for his no shirt shot, Daniel Craig decarbed for weeks for his no shirt shot, they shoot their shot in an hour and then relax into normal schedules. Butler's every single shot in the movie was a no shirt shot, he had to peak for not a day or an hour but for 16 hours every day for 3 months non-stop. That's absolutely impossible. Butler had the most demanding role out of them all.

I can definitely see Ben getting ripped for the part. Ripped.

I remember the days when the media labelled Daniel Craig a wimp. And when the time came to see the movie, he was the grittiest of the bunch.

Affleck is already in a great physical condition with the time he has to get in the best shape we've ever seen a Batman actor in. Bale in begins will most likely never be touched but it is possible for Affleck to get even bigger than actors like Chris Evans and Chris Hemmsworth did for their respective roles.

What do you mean he needs to get into batman physique, the guys huge! He's tall he's physically imposing, he doesn't need a shirtless scene. Henry Cavils in great shape no doubt but Ben's build is much larger to begin with.

Bumping this thread since people seem to have forgotten its existence and are chatting this subject up in the Ben Affleck thread.
