Batman R.I.P.

Free at last free at last. This story is ove-- What? Last rites is just a continuation of RIP? It's not over?

Arg.

If you don't like the direction the title is going in why not just drop BATMAN altogether? or is somebody forcing you to buy that book at gunpoint every month?

Also, I think most people believe that Dick Grayson is very likely going to be the "new Batman," but what if he is not Bruce's choice of a successor?

I hope he picks Thudd Butt.

Just finished Final Crisis # 5 and when I read this it put a smile on my face

"....Mokkari has failed you great one! the Batman psycho-merge killed the clone army these fools tried to build"

lol looks like 683 will be all sorts of awesome.

Dan Didio says that the ending they've been hyping all this time wasn't the last issue of RIP, but FC #6--and that #6 is the real ending to RIP, but the story had to be broken down he way it was for marketing purposes (that is, RIP had to "end" in Batman for the trade).

It's an addiction for me honestly.

In Final Crisis, how often does Batman show up? I know he gets kidnapped in #2, but is he mentioned or seen in #3, 4 and 5?

All of the trinity are effectively non-entities in Final Crisis. Batman had some "screen" time in issues one and two that was pretty decent, but since then he has not appeared and has only been mentioned in once. Superman hasn't appeared since then either, and Wonder Woman has only appeared in passing as one of the new Furies.

Well actually as far as Superman goes he's very much been involved in FC but not the main book just the Beyond 3D and Legion of 3 Worlds tie-in's. Also issue 7 is very much his issue in the way that 6 will be Batman's.

Legion of 3 Worlds doesn't seem to have anything to do with Final Crisis, and I don't think Superman Beyond is particularly important--because if it were, it would be in Final Crisis, not a spin off. In any case, what I said was that they've been non-entities in Crisis--not that they won't be involved later, or that they aren't doing other things in other books.

According to DiDio everything does fit it's just that his poor editorial skills have lead to **** being released out of sequence. Those two tie-in's do fit in as they both involve developments within the multiverse which is crucial to the storyline and of course one of them is written by Morisson the mastermind behind the whole thing.

It's just an issue of the timeline which will be a lot more clear once everything is finally wrapped up. Oh and I got what you meant but those books are piece of the FC puzzle whether we like them or not. Personally I've just bought the main book and Beyond 3D myself because I buy monthly's and am not willing to sacrifice the money I spend on those monthlies for even more mini's. I'll wait for the trades for everything else.

I didn't say they wouldn't fit--just that they're not particularly important. Spin-offs never are.

he gets captured by bad guys in Final Crisis #2. This is the Final Crisis tie-in story. I'd say just go and buy #2 and you'll be set. Then Final Crisis #6 will conclude it, i think.

Yeah, RIP was basically an interuption of the regular line of batman comics.

Newest issue was great. Love how they talked about Joker's persona changing when Robin came along. And I loved all the references to older Batman stories. Great issue.

Does anyone have a decent quality shot of Batman coming out of the ground in the final issue of R.I.P.?

Yeah, it's the one halfway down the page. That's where I saw it, and was reminded that I wanted to find a bigger version than that.

This issue was even better than the last one because it has Batman using his will power to overcome Darkseid's minions and use The Lump to get free. That's all I will say but anyway I liked all the references to the O'Neill Adams days and on. We see Ra's and Batman's first confrontation, Joker's Five Way Revenge, Proferssor Milo werewolf story, Death in the Family, The Killing Joke all the way up to Morisson's run all covered. We also get confirmation that the timeline is

Batman survives helicopter crash in R.I.P, Doctor Hurt is presumably drowned, Batman reunites with Alfred in the batcave where the butler reveals Hurt was full of **** when it came to the Alfred and the Wayne's naughty pic being real, the JLA call and Final Crisis begins.

I'm thinkin the whole RIP thing is gonna be in his head. Since
Spoiler i guess?.....

He had that thing on his face when he was captured.

I still don't understand why put RIP and FC so far out of sync with each other? Then we're going to top it off with Last Rites and Battle for the Cowl. Obviously Bruce survived the crash or he wouldn't be appearing in FC. Morrison says that Batman really dies in FC...

Why not have the next Batman story start with Batman after FC ends.

Maybe Batman will be presumed dead. Maybe in about 10 to 20 years:

They would pull off a "winter soldier" have Bruce return as a brainwashed assassin working for Ra's al Ghul.

I don't think Morrison ever said Batman would die in FC. He's said from the beginning that whatever happens won't be death.

In any case, this was a wonderful issue. Morrison has great talent for building up Batman. Alfred's final monologue was my favourite part.
