a well done adaptation of the Hush storyline. It's dark. Not a kiddie cartoon.
My favorite animated Batman movie yet. Far better than MOTP imo.
Highly recommend. Even if you know the story.

I thought it was an adaptation of....Under The Hood? Or am I wrong, since I haven't really been following it?

You're correct, Trav, it is indeed an adaption of that story. The movie is written by Judd Winnick, the guy who wrote the comic book story.

I agree, this movie is great. It's actually my favorite Batman animated movie now.

I dislike some of the voice acting. Oddly, I'm okay with Batman's and like Joker's new voice, but Jason Todd sounds way to whiney to me. Perhaps that shouldn't bother me too much, considering that Jason Todd most likely is whiney, but it does.

I don't agree. Jensen Ackles never sounded whiney. He sounded angry, intense, even sympathetic. But never whiney, IMO.

I don't think its nearly as good as MOTP but I did enjoy it a fair bit. I loved Batman's attitude in it and thought the actor actually sounded like Conroy in his prime at times, he was very good. I also liked Jokers voice as well.

Loved the moment when Batman jumped threw the car, even if it was very OTT.

i saw it last week, i never knew the story but there was no surprises really. it was an entertaining movie. nice to see people actually die

Just watched this after downloading from PSN. I must say I agree that it's likely the best Animated Batman feature yet. This is the kind of Batman I would like to see in a live-action feature. The acting, animation (the fight scenes were especially well done), music, writing, all excellent.

It still isn't released on XBL but yet, Clash of the Titans is. Get on the BALL PEOPLE!!

I hate that alot of people have seen it and I"m left without.:csad:

Hopefully, I can download it within the next hour or so. If they update the list.

It's brilliant. Joker's laugh sounds a little forced, but his normal speaking voice is brilliant. He has a kind of slow, burning menace. Very different to Hamill's version which was a lot more overtly crazy.
But personally, I think Jason Todd stole the show. At the beginning he was actually kind of funny, like a more serious Deadpool. But throughout the movie he begins to unravel until he really does become a tragic figure.
10/10 for me.

Here's hoping we see The Long Halloween. With the voice talent in this, I can't wait to see who would portray Harvey Dent.

I'm about to rent it on demand, looking forward to Bender Aquaman's Joker interpretation the most.

The Black Mask dressed like Scarface.

I now forgive DC Animated for the mess that was Batman: Gotham Knight.

I heard there's a TON of extras on the Blu-Ray copy.

You heard correctly. You also get four episodes of BTAS on it:

- Robin's Reckoning parts 1 and 2
- The Laughing Fish
- Mad Love

OP is right. This is a GREAT movie. I liked the two special features on the Robins (1 on Dick and 1 on Jason).

Other than Death in the Family, I don't think I've read any stories with JT, so I didn't realize how much of a hated (by fans) character he was. In DITF, I guess he was a little mouthy and talked back (and outright disobeyed Batman), but I didn't really see him as as bad as he supposedly was (I also took into account that his mission was a personal one, so he was somewhat "justified" in how he was acting). I guess I need to read earlier stories to see how much of a punk he was.

But, yeah, the movie was great. I'm not really into the whole "reincarnation" thing...I like realism, so I never read that story-line. However, for a one-shot movie, I didn't mind it.

The way they brought him back in the movie is ten times better than how they did it in the comics. In the comic book story
Superboy-Prime attempts to punch his way out of the extradimensional space in which he had been trapped since the Crisis on Infinite Earths, and it causes a ripple which resurrects Jason in his coffin.

Agreed, it was better in the movie, and fit better within the Batman "universe".

thanks for that...that way definitely does suck, and it's the kind of crap i hate. i wasn't reading comics when Crisis happened, but every time i hear about it, i shutter...it seems so stupid.

The Jason hatred is greatly overstated and misinformed. Pre-crisis Jason was well received and he was a good character. Post-crisis Jason was very different while retaining some of the basics because Max Allan Collins decided he needed to be "edgy" for no reason. He wanted to give Robin attitude and a darker streak & Denny O'Neil foolishly agreed.

So with post-crisis Jay we got a character that started out alright but some fans did not welcome like they did the pre-crisis version. Then as they tried to go "deeper" with him he became obnoxious at times to some only because he had a mind of his own and didn't always blindly follow Batman. So the infamous poll was created.

Funny fact recently it was revealed that the reason the "DIE" option won was because ONE fan had figured a way to get in multiple phone votes. That one fan is the reason it wasn't a tie and ended up being just close with the DIE option getting the favor. So obviously if over 5,000 fans didn't think post-crisis Jason should've died he wasn't as loathed as many would want you to believe.

Anyway with the movie the flashbacks were excellent. My favorite part of a very entertaining package. Made me want to see a whole movie based on all of them from the post-crisis meeting with Jason to the mix of the original & TKJ flashback creation of The Joker and the great ending with Jason's first time wearing the Robin costume.

DC proves once again that their animated movies are way better than anything Marvel's ever done, and of course their live action's better aswell, they just don't have as many as Marvel, but so what, Marvel just threw together a bunch of crappy movies that sucked, Ironman 1 and 2 were the only good ones.

Anyway.

Under The Red Hood was way better than I thought it would be, I had a good feeling about it, but man, it was really great!

The best DC animated movie yet. The others have been very good, some better than others but all good. Hood raises the bar even higher.

DC/WB should start making their dvds a bit longer though, they could at least make them an hour and a half. I must say they did quite a bit in the hour and 16 minutes of this movie. I thought some of the changes were better than what was in the Comic's original story arc. Not that there are many changes but, what they did come up with to tighten the story, and for running time and all, was awesome. I hate the Under the Hood story, I hate what they did to Jason, he should have been left dead, I'm sick of the lame old gimmick of bringing people back from the dead, and even though there are times when supernatural or sci-fi type stuff happens in the Batman universe, this just doesn't fit, and when it comes to other more fantasy oriented characters, it's old there too, and they have to kill off that old gimmick and leave it dead.

But, when it comes to the Under the Red Hood movie, I liked it. Just 'cause it was very well done, a fun movie and I've been dying for a new Batman movie.

I couldn't believe how awesome it was. Four stars for sure. I miss Kevin as Batman though, Bruce Greenwood was okay, but only okay.

My only other small gripe was that the Joker's laugh didn't seem natural, and some of his other character traits, he lacked a certain Joker style and finesse to his madness, something that Mark Hammil would have done beautifully as he always has. They really should have brought back their main 2 guys for Batman and Joker.

Other than that the movie is perfect. I can over look the small stuff.
If you haven't seen it yet and are wondering if you should maybe rent it before buying it, don't worry, just buy it.

You'll want to watch it over and over again.

The movie looks great, beautiful animation, awesome character designs, and the Batmobile is freakin' awesome!!! I love the Batmobile in this movie, it's a real power house, cooler than the tumbler. The BatWing's also very cool. And there's a flash back where you see an older Batmobile, it is somewhat like the Batman Forever Batmobile but way cooler, it has the classic single fin and it just looks awesome.

Heck, all I can say is, everything about this movie is awesome.

Awesome is the one word that sums up everything about BATMAN:
Under The Red Hood.
I've been up all night so I'm kind of tired so sorry if my review's a bit thin. All I can think to say is Awesome and Cool, but that is what this Movie is... Awesome and Cool! Hee Hee.:woot: :word: :ybat::batman:

Next they should make a Hush movie, and make it as great as Under the Red Hood. Now Hush is a story I actually liked, and would love to see that brought to animated life. Even though I don't like the Red Hood comic, I love the movie. :dpf: (I know that's Deadpool, but you have to admit, that 'smilie' looks like the animated Red Hood.)

i bought this movie on blu-ray last nite

great to hear it has been getting positive reviews

once i get home later today i'm going to watch it

Batman: Under the Red Hood is quite possibly the quintessential Batman movie. The voicework certainly took some getting used to, but once I got over not hearing Conroy and Hammill I realized they actually were doing a good job. It's the best animated feature to date, and among the best Batman films to date. I think it did a great job with utilizing the 75 minute runtime, never dragged and was paced exceptionally well.

Moreover, I think Jason Todd was doomed in that he followed Dick Grayson. Dick had a lot of fan loyalty, and most at that time saw him as the only true Robin. Jason was, from the beginning, in an uphill battle for approval. In a way I see him treated similarly to that of X-Men's Emma Frost. Her character is often branded as "****ty" in comparison to Jean Grey's "purity", even though both characters have been involved in affairs, and hooked up with Cyclops under dubious circumstances (Jean's actually "killed" Scott's first wife). In a way the perceptions of the fanbase influenced the outcome of Jason Todd's character.

Couldn't agree more. Frankly the new voices were a welcome oasis from Conroy and Hamill. Awesome as they are, it's nice to get some new talent.

They actually may have more. Anyway IMO movies like Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, Superman, Batman Returns and TDK are on a cinematic level that I can't see any movie based on a Marvel property ever reaching. Except for maybe Thor. At least I hope that it does.
