Batman vs Spider-Man vs The Avengers

I love the other two, but Batman wins for several reasons:

1) Its an established film franchise. Spiderman is a reboot and this is the first Avenger film.

2) We don't know how good the other two will be.

3) Christopher Nolan always delivers and if anyone can break the third-act curse, its him.

4) Its Nolan's last Batman film.

5) It will be riding off the success of The Dark Knight. Remember how popular Spiderman 3 was after Spiderman 2's success? Yeah its gonna make that look microscopic.

This. Although Avengers will cut it VERY close.

EDIT: Actually, Spidey will be in 3D so you never know... I think it'll be very close but Batman 3 will win it.

Hulk
Iron Man
Thor
Captain America

Avengers will redefine the team superhero movie. 4 franchises coming together after 10 years of hype? Plus Whedonites?

Avengers will own all the competition.

Are we talking box office here? If so, just something to think about: by the time 2012 rolls around, TDK will adjust with inflation to roughly $625 million domestic. Even if Batman 3 drops off a lot, say 25% of its ticket sales, that still leaves it at nearly $470 million in 2012 dollars. Avengers should be really big too and certainly has the better chance than Spidey right now of beating Batman 3. Spidey is in a crappy release date, sandwiched between Star Trek 2 and Batman 3. Star Trek 2 comes out just a few days before Spidey, so they are direct competition with each other. Batman 3 will chop off Spidey's legs by stealing theaters, screens, and moviegoer interest from it.

I do agree that the Avengers can cut it very close, but at this point there are many more wild cards to the Avengers than Batman.

The success of the Avengers will depend on the success (currently) of Iron Man 2 (which looks like it will be a huge success), Thor, and Captain America. Hulk was a moderate success on screen, but it was a great success for dvd.
Thor looks like it can be good, and Captain America is still a bit of a wild card within itself.

Marvel's 2 for 2 approaching 3 for 3. Lets hope Cap and Thor are good along with Iron Man 2

Also Avengers could win if the rebooted Spiderman's a huge sucess which could also cut into the profits of Batman 3.

MARVEL

Because DC/WB is still twddiling their thumbs and the (Batman) fans are a bunch of elitists

I think Batman is the more stable series. If it was Spidey 4, then the question would be a lot different. A Spidey reboot might not have the same box office success as the first one. The TDK sequel is already riding off of a major movie, while the Spidey reboot will probably be a head scratcher that some people are hesitant about.

Avengers does have potential to beat Batman though. It depends on how IM, Cap, and Thor does. If IM2 does as well as the first, that's one helluva start. If Cap and Thor are successes as well, it could be a real contender to win the summer. It's easy to see how everyone will flock to see the Avengers based on name recognition, but throw in three success movies setting it up and you have a huge blockbuster on your hands.

IM2 will make $425+ million domestic and probably $800+ million worldwide. It's going to be a huge hit. The first one had very strong word of mouth and the sequel is set to explode like recent sequels in the Pirates, Batman, and Transformers franchises.

Whedon

One major reason Spider-man won't win.

Sony

So by default Batman 3 wins.

If it's that big, then the Avengers will have a huge leg up on Batman and Spider-man. Avengers would be like an Iron Man sequel, so it has some serious box office momentum going for it. How Thor and Cap does will probably determine if it beats Batman and Spidey.

Why would that be a huge leg up on Batman?

Yes. In two years we can debate which was the better movie.

The Avengers has another edge: a two month head start. Spider-Man and Batman are both in July. The Avengers is in May. There's more breathing room. That's why I'm leaning towards that movie.

Three blockbusters coming together for a crossover would be huge. People have been anticipating something like the Avengers for awhile.

Very, very hard to say, given that Spider-Man is just in the planning stages and nothing like Avengers has ever been done before.

But regardless, Batman.

Let's not forget, whilst we all certainly hope that Captain America and Thor are great and successful movies, that is not guarenteed. The Avengers could be coming on the back of one or two flops, or medium-sized hits ala Hulk and Superman Returns, and thus lose momentum. Whereas the last Batman and Spider-Man movies are two of the most succesful movies of all time.

Batman
SM and Avengers will do great though...2012 isnt the end of the world...its the biggest box office year ever.

Why couldn't it be both? Isn't the Mayan prediction for December 2012? That gives 11 months for it to be the biggest box office year ever before the world goes "poof." :cwink: :woot:

hahaha we would definitely go out with a bang...
hmm...the end of the world is lookin a whole lot brighter ;)

Yeah that can backfire too. If Cap and Thor fail, then the Avengers could be in trouble. That would kill a lot of the movie's momentum.

I really don't care, all I know is it's going to be one helluva year

I agree with this. I'm gonna see all movies, so this will be like 2008 all over again.
