The Dark Knight Batman's Theme Music in TDK

i think i also remembered some BB music in TF. but TF music was still great.

there is a big chance that i will buy it. i dont care if they ripped from others. it sounds great ....thats all that matters.

I'm sure that you'd have negative things to say, though, if you'd heard TDK's music ripping off, let's say the Shadow theme.
Personally, I think that such obvious ripping off should be discouraged in any aspect of art.

well it was not sooo obvious. if it would be then we would have news about that.

he was just inspired.

Of course composers are going to have an obvious similarity across their works, it's called style. I will say however that no one rips themself off nearly as much as James Horner. Don't get me wrong, he's brilliant, but he does so many scores he probably comes up with pieces he's forgotten he's already come up with. Some of his themes are nearly identical save for a note or two.

Zimmer and Elfman are pretty notorious IMO for doing the same thing. Again, it's a style that they are comfortable with, so its hard to say if its a good quality or bad, although I think it's a tad on the bad side if the similarities are too obvious and frequent. I would say John Williams, easily the greatest film composer that ever lived IMO, has the best variety of music. People say his themes are similar because so many of his themes are memorable and already ingrained in their subconscious. His music is very rich, so I think he demonstrates a nice range.

Agreed 500% on Horner. He ACTUALLY uses the same notes in some of his scores! And that's why he's not not in my top 3, although he's pretty damn close.

Sure, I can live with that explanation. But what really pissed me off was the Terminator theme, shamelessly identical.

the classic terminator theme?
i dont remember that in the movie.

which part?

It was heard several times in the movie. Definately when 2 robots crash a bridge towards the end and it was scattered throughout the whole film. Now, I'm not talking about the whole melody, but about the intro of the T theme. One would have been fine as a tribute, but so many times?

Ugh! Yes! I didn't notice it the first time I saw the movie, but the second time...

There I was, sitting happily, loving the movie and the music (especially the music), and during Optimus/Megatron's fight (particularly the shot where they crash through the building) there's the stupid Terminator drums. Many times.

DUM DUM, DUM DA-DUM.
DUM DUM, DUM DA-DUM.
DUM DUM, DUM DA-DUM.

As far as TF ripping off Batman Begins, I can't really say I think it did. There was at least one scene (I think it's when they are all arriving at Hoover) where the music did that minor-third thing from BB, but it was in the context of a larger theme, and those two notes start probably about ten billion musical themes.

Actually, I'd say the Terminator drums are great and the TF movie is the stupid one in the whole deal.

Zimmer? Really? You couldn't have two scores more different (and both are equally brilliant) than The Thin Red Line and Gladiator. Elfman, totally. 'What style will I have for this score? Ooh, I know, creepy and Gothic!'

He's done brilliant and varied scores, but Begins wasn't one of them :csad:

Not really to do with a lack of theme, just way too overbearing and traditional

I wish they just let JNH do it by himself - Unbreakable is one of my fave scores ever.

up2nogood, that was a great remix.
However, I think (and hope) that Zimmer wrote something abstract for BB. When Zimmer does themes, he DOES themes. I think he... scattered the theme throughout the soundtrack and will tighten it in TDK.
What up2nogood did could be close (and it sounds great), although I would like to hear something even tighter (and more iconic).

Well...BB theme is suits nolan's world...BUT that does not mean there can be a better theme. A more memorable theme.

The Thin Red Line is Zimmer's best work. It also happens to be one of my favorite movies.

he'll earn it when hes out fighting the joker

Thanks guys! :yay:

I also hope we get something more iconic in TDK but i have to admit i do like the music from begins, especially the molossus theme.. :woot: im riding my luck a bit now, but considering some of you liked the first theme i posted, here is the extended one with molossus in that i was talking about! :ninja: its not perfect.. but its not easy to mix these themes seemlessly lol

I personally think the end credit piece will be what his new theme could be based on... I heard something about batman showing his detective side more this time round, that music sets the mood for that in my opinion..

I think the "not having earned a theme" idea is refreshing. Batman Begins was about developing Bruce's character. He had depth and was flawed. It's not like The Man With No Name where the character's past is not addressed and he "just is" from the moment he steps on screen.

And I'm not putting down Leone or Morricone. Leone might be my favorite filmmaker. I actually do see similarities between Batman and the wandering samurai/Man With No Name character that appears in films and literature.

up2nogood, the 2nd one was very good, but I prefer the first as it's shorter, tighter and more to the point, so to speak.
