He's 20+ years into his career, appearing as a headline in papers, getting mentioned in interviews with one the world's richest men (Luthor), brought up by the editor of another paper, and raised by a newsman to another of the world's richest men who doesn't dismiss the existence of the Bat.

We're not dealing with an urban legend. He's a known quantity at this point.

People here kept talking about wanting to see a more organic less "techy" Batman compared to the Nolan depiction and a Batman who sounds like Robocop doesn't seem to fit that billing.

Yup.

I really like his modulated voice but I'll admit how it might sound "off" when the situation doesn't ask for it. On the other hand I think he will be able to turn it off when it isn't needed.

That's why I'm not to eager on watching BvS in German since his voice is not modulated at all in the regular batsuit, only in the mech-suit. He does not even naturally change it.

I'm pretty confident that it's Batman who delivers the 'SOB' line, which doesn't sound markedly different from the rest of his dialogue in the trailer. It's only the 'bleed' catchphrase that doesn't quite fit, as it reflects a more distinctively mechanical cadence and is thus better suited to the mech armor.

Well, I don't have a problem with the voice, though it's not my first choice. However, when my wife watched TV spot one, the first thing she said was "I don't like his voice", so I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea. My hope is that in the context of the film it will work better. It's at least not as jarring as the previous bat-voice imo.

Weren't people here big on Batman portraying himself as sort of "beyond human" to put a fear into criminals?

This voice just sounds like a guy straight up talking through a modulator device that you can get on apps today. Nothing particularly intimidating about it.

I could not agree more with this statement. My problem with the voice is it seems unnecessary to me. If it had a slight modulation or "filter" I honestly wouldn't mind, but it seems they are completely overdoing it.

This is the best thing we'll get to hearing the subtle differences in modulation between each of the lines from Affleck.

The SOB line is definitely the least modulated in comparison to the other lines, to the point where it could in fact just be Bruce's voice outside of the suit. In this video, it sounds like the voice is only modulated because of the "noise" behind Affleck's voice, which is giving the impression that the voice is distorted. Otherwise, the line lacks the "robotised" sound of the other Batvoice lines.

I had the thought, though quickly shot it down because it seemed ridiculous after listening back to Bruce's voice in the other trailers, that perhaps the voice modulation is somehow built into Bruce himself and he can turn it on and off at will. I didn't think that Bruce would ever incorporate technology into himself though, not like Iron Man or Cyborg so it's probably not the case.

The main reason why I thought that was because Affleck's voice seems to distort a little when he says "clowns" in the line at 1:04

The way Bruce looks at Clark after the line too; it's clear that they both know each other's identities and are playing with each other, including Lex who shortly joins the two. I thought maybe Bruce was subtly intimidating Clark there and then, by changing to his Batvoice and emphasising "clowns". However, listening back to that line with some headphones on, it just sounds more like Affleck's regular voice but with a deeper and coarser tone. Whether it was intentional or not, I like the emphasis on the word "clown"; that line is clearly important for establishing Bruce's history as Batman and losing Robin to the Joker and for establishing Batman's intolerance towards Superman.

I think the modulation in both the SOB and "thought she was with you" lines are both fairly subtle. Given the inconsistency of it, I think it's reasonable to assume that they've been tweaking the modulation to find the right balance and probably boosting it to make specific lines stand out more in the trailer. I'm sure in the final mix, it will sit better and not stick out quite as much. We have recent precedent for this with Bane and Kylo Ren.

He's noted several times they work under Nolan's shadow so they probably don't want alienate modern audiences who have been so accustomed to that take. But it was easily one of the more controversial aspects of that iteration, so I'm of the opinion they wouldn't have risked anything by going a different way.

The simplest answer is Snyder and co. loved Bale's voice. I can't imagine how, but there are clearly a great number who don't mind it.

Yeah, this one's much better. Though there is always a risk of it getting worse in sequels... Bale's voice in BB was fine as well. Hopefully history won't repeat itself.

I've always said that I thought Bale's bat-voice in Begins was absolutely perfect for his version of the character, however in TDK and TDKR it only got worse. I am by no means one of those angry bale bat-voice haters I just really never cared for it after Begins.

I heard, once upon a time, that in TDK/R Bale talked normally while they were shooting and then his voice was changed during post-production. I heard that they did it that way as to not put any unnecessary strain on his voice. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I distinctly remember a TDK interview where Bale was asked how difficult it was to put on the bat-voice again, and he remarked that it was surprisingly easy once he put the suit back on.

A lot of myths seem to start on message boards.

Personally, I don't feel that Ben could accomplish that very well. I'm not saying that to flame him or to say that's the reason Snyder chose voice modulation, but I do think having Affleck do a "normal" Batman voice would have been weak.

His "It's time you learn" sounds so much better than "I thought she was with you" so hopefully we get more of the former sound than the latter.

Indeed. I believe the TDK-R growl was a mixture of Bale slightly over doing it and post modifications by Nolan.

I think that behind the modulation, Affleck's doing a sort of husky, Keaton-esque voice. As well as disguising his voice, I believe the modulation is there to boost the volume / intensity, give him a more menacing tone, and to differentiate this version of Batman. I don't think it will sound as obvious in the film, though.
