BvS Batman's Voice Thread

I think that behind the modulation, Affleck's doing a sort of husky, Keaton-esque voice. As well as disguising his voice, I believe the modulation is there to boost the volume / intensity, give him a more menacing tone, and to differentiate this version of Batman. I don't think it will sound as obvious in the film, though.

THIS is exactly what I was hoping for, something more mysterious and less over the top and growly.

I think the voice is too modulated. I like the concept but I think less is more here. I hope Snyder goes back and cleans it up a bit ala Nolan and Bane's voice. I guess enough complaints would do it but I see the people that complain are in the minority. I suppose it could grow on me but so far, I really don't like it. My 9 year old son is a Batman fanatic. I've tried everything I can to get him to like Superman and he just doesn't like him as much as Batman and even he says he doesn't like the Bat voice, lol.

Also, another reason I don't like the modulated voice is so far there's been a serious lack of emotion in Batman's voice in the latest clips. Can we hear something with a little emotion? I have a fear that if we do, it will sound very corny and if not then really all we have is a robotic monotone Batman voice.

This has been my only serious nitpick on the film up to this point.

You want emotion from him asking an alien if he bleeds?

Yep, actually my post suggested that I would like to hear something different. I don't want to hear a monotone robotic voice for 2 and a half hours if you know what I mean.

Eh, in all honesty, Batman's voice never had much emotion, not even with Conroy. He is a pretty stoic character after all.

The worse thing about the (admittedly not-terrible) voice is that I'm pretty sure I can hear a perfectly good Batvoice hiding underneath all the modulation.

The good thing is, if snyder feels it needs to be toned down, it can be done after bvs.

I loved that Batman looks and sounds so calm, cool, and collected in this clip. Part of that is definitely Ben's expressions and mannerisms, but also the voice and its modulation. Batman's not screaming or shouting, he doesn't have to try hard to put on his "Batman voice". It's just coming out of him with ease, which was a little jarring at first, but it's almost a little creepy and keeps growing on me as I see/hear more -- especially after hearing it in the context of an actual scene.

I always liked the concept of Bale doing the growly voice, not only to mask his identity, but because it was like he became Batman whenever he used that voice. I have no problem with Bale's voice in the majority of TDKT, but there are times it was wonky and inconsistent. It also required too much effort from Bale.

Affleck's voice takes on that same concept, as he also takes this extra step to alter his voice. Since the Bat-voice is actually Affleck's voice, it's almost like his Bat-voice is a dark (and maybe demonic) mirror of Bruce's own voice, creating a further disconnect between Bruce Wayne and the Batman -- while also removing another shred or sign of his humanity when he becomes Batman. I bet criminals would be scared ****less of something like Batman chasing and calling out to them in an alley with this voice.

We've only heard Batman speak calmly so far, from what I can tell. I bet the voice will sound even crazier when he actually does get angry, loud, and/or intimidating. I wouldn't mind if they played around a bit with the modulation throughout the film. I could see there maybe being changes in volume, reverb, and echoes for the voice throughout the film in different situations.

Lol, I'm not asking for a clip of Batman screaming "WHERE ARE THEYUHHH!!!!" Just something different than what we've got so far, that's all.

The sound of the voice modulation reminds me of the aliens in the original V mini-series. It's kind of odd how the human in this sounds more alien than the actual alien.

I can see why it has been done of course. Affleck has a rather weak speaking voice, prone to cracking when he raises it (be it in anger, sadness, etc), so it's best to beef it up. But it's all about the execution, and this just feels off to me.

Personally I love the voice – it also makes perfect sense to me, as Bruce creates Batman as a means to scare criminals... he would use every bit of technology at his disposal.
Can you imagine, as a criminal, encountering Batman... if he spoke in a normal voice, i'm sure some of the mythos would be lost.

If he had a badass natural voice like Clint Eastwood, he wouldn't need to change it. That would be plenty scary. In fact my ideal version would see the actor using his normal voice for Batman and private/real Bruce Wayne, then changing it for public Wayne. It would work much better thematically.

Because the 30 seconds of audio we've heard so far means there will be no variation throughout the whole movie?

As an aside, it's highly amusing that the people who are claiming the modulated voice is too monotone are probably the same people who claim Conroy is the iconic and definitive Bat-voice. If people had any familiarity with Conroy's Bat-voice they'd know it only deviates from monotone very rarely...

You know, I think most fanboys who consider Conroy the definitive Batman are focused on the voice itself rather than the performance. He does have a great vocal quality for Batman, and I enjoy him in the animated endeavors, but I don't think there's anything particularly special about his performance.

I liked the sound of his voice. It was pretty cool and reminded me a bit of Oliver's voice in Arrow, which I also like a lot and think is very cool.

Even though I enjoyed the new clip for the most part, the voice is still not growing on me. This is really hard on me considering how much I love Affleck in the role, the suit and everything else I've seen from him so far. I only wish they toned it down a bit and I think it would sound fantastic, its just too overbearing.

I come from a music background and I've always had an issue with over-produced music or vocals with too many effects, and this is right up that alley.

It fits the mech suit better, I'm not too bothered by it as the regular bat voice but I just don't think it's needed and that Affleck can do it fine enough on his own.

Hopefully they at least tone it down a bit in the final film or not use it for every scene with Ben in the suit

I think Conroy's voice IS his performance. I think that Batman himself in comics is often calm, and I think that reflects in Conroy's voice acting.

But when he DOES get intense, I think Conroy does it very well.

I think the trouble with Ben Affleck is that he's arguably so similar to Batman that people will complain that his Batman qualities are similar to his Affleckisms. Otherwise, I'm fine with his casting.

Let me rephrase that: I think Conroy's performance, while perfect for animation, is a little too deliberate for film where I think a more natural approach is ideal.

Regarding Batfleck, certain people will look for anything they can use as ammo against him, pure and simple.

I'm still not digging MegaTron's voice--- I mean Batman.. I think using it in a dark alley here and there would be fine but honestly I don't dig it. My biggest thing is that it's going to sound silly when talking to fellow League members and unnecessary.

As opposed to the mythos of a guy who sounds like he's speaking through his phones voice modulation app?

Maybe 20 years ago that kind of voice would seem more out there, now it just sounds like tech you can get on the app store.

It'd be cooler honestly if it changed his voice to sound like a human voice other than his.
