But it was forced in the interrogation. The whole Batman persona is a "force" ... What actor forced a Batman voice that sounded natural? The voice used for the character in all previous carnations wasn't a true seperate voice from their normal one. More hushed tone. Bale made something completely different. His voice sounded awesome in damn near every scene apart from maybe a few. The fewer he had to say, the better it had to sound. But that was the point man, Bruce Wayne was trying to sound like an animal. A raging beast like creature of a man. Therefore we get the growl. How does the voice that is forced for the entire movie, not sound forced in the interrogation scene? That doesn't even make sense. Because ontop of the fact that you consider the voice ineffective and forced, he's forcing it even more in that scene as he's damn near yelling at Flass.

The point is how does Bruce Wayne potray himself as a beast, and Bale has to use a natural sounding voice? LOL ... that is an paradox for your ass. Bale potrayed Bruce Wayne as the ultimate actor in order to conceal his identity. He makes up a snobby, distant, arrogant, even dumb jock sounding voice for his public Bruce Wayne persona. Then as the true Bruce Wayne, he speaks in his natural voice in a very hush like tone. Bale's regular Bruce Wayne voice is the equivelent to Michael Keaton's Batman voice. The scene with Rachel at the end of the film is proof positive of this. So for his night time persona thats being used to strike fear, we get an obviously forced (that's the purpose) animal like growl for Batman.

You're confusing 2 uses of the word here, forced meaning he's putting on an act to scare people, and forced as in the voice sounds strained and unconvincing.

To varying degrees the other actors made it feel like a distinct personality when they put on the cowl, rather than a conscious act. Begins dictates a different approach as these are his first outings, but that doesn't mean it should sound like an act, someone putting on their "scary voice". That may work to varying degrees with his enemies, depending on the context, but to the audience it can be pretty ridiculous. Besides, generally it's a really weak attempt at a deep voice, especially in the scenes with Gordon

Yes, exactly. Thanks for saving me a post. :o

Yeah I understood the meaning and usage of the word, and the way it's being described by the party in example makes not a lick of sense. The voice comes off forced, but in a scene like Flass interrogation he couldn't have liked it more? When that "forced" voice is amplified and FORCED even more. .

Lol, so you have a problem of WHAT I like? The voice suited the scene and the context of which it was in. Not to mention it was badass.

I can't really say the same for many other scenes in the movie in which he came off as jarring, but in a bad way. What else do you want me to say?

No problem with what you like ... I liked it too. Just showing how blatantly ******ed the argument and complaints about Bale's "forced" sounding Batman voice are.

I don't expect you to say anything. Because the arguments against the interp of the voice make absolutely no sense, and the blame lays on this vague agenda of it sounding "forced." haha

A description so subjective and vague, it doesn't validate the Bale haters opinions.

Yeah Batman was jarring? Well he's supposed to be. That's the point.

You thought his voice sounded forced and un-natural but loved the most forced portion of the voice in the entire movie. The voice fits that scene, but not others? It was the same voice, only louder. You found his audible performance jarring and non-believable as an audience member in every other scene? What threw you off so much? He didn't sound bad in the scenes with Gordon, his introduction was completely bad ass, his meeting with Rachel, his beat down of Crane? I mean really ... your argument is vague and lacks any sort of validity.

I like Keaton, Bale, and Conroy. I think people rag on Bale's voice too much and really don't understand the signifance of it. Bale is portraying Batman like a creature that is on a rampage and that's how he portrays his voice.

He uses his voice as if he is a monster and that monster is the one the criminals fear.

I think the only time the voice sounded a bit off was when he revealed himself to Rachel, and when he was talking to Gordon after Ra's released the gas in the Narrows. Other than that the voice was fine in every other scene honestly.

You seem to have a knack for blatantly misconstruing words in it's context. I made a point to even mention that it was jarring, not in the good sense, but bad.

Similarly if I see a fat dude wearing a pink tutu and I say, "scary", I don't mean I'm literally shaking in my boots due to fear. Merely the thought of it and the visuals accompanying the idea are scary in a laughable sense. See how context works there?

Yes, one's opinion and perception of a performance really lacks validity. My god, you should be like the the czar of all that is right in the world, since clearly nothing escapes your grasp of omniscience.

If this is any news to you, then I'm sorry to break your heart and tell you that my viewpoint is shared by MANY across this board alone. It's not even arguable that Bale's batvoice has divided opinions. What really strikes me is how one can take such passion with a mere disagreement. There are people out there that don't like his voice. Deal with it.

1.Conroy
2.Bale
3.Keaton
4.Kilmer
5.Clooney

I like Bale, but he seemed to just be growling. And I could barely hear what Keaton was saying. Kilmer was alright, not great. Clooney was Clooney, and nothing more. Conroy was THE Batman.

Conroy and Bale.
Bale's low growl is great, but i grew up with B:TAS, so that voice is pretty hard to top.

i think KILMER did the best voice, but he wasn't the best batman by far...

next comes CONROY

then keaton

bale

NOBODY ELSE REALLY MATTERS

Keaton and Conroy.

I would have voted for Kevin Conroy, but decided against it because he is a voice actor and he is specifically cast for that one attribute as opposed to the other actors and also I figured he'd thusly win by a landslide.

Among the film actors Michael Keaton portrayed cool, calculating menace with a well of anger and psychosis beneath the surface. His voice and eyes were quiet, but also extremely piercing and menacing.

It is the one aspect (voice and facial communication in the suit) that I think Keaton has over Bale, really.

P.S. I undderstand the logic and reason behind Bale changing his voice into something animalistic. But it comes off cheesy and really stilted. I cringed the first two times I watched it during the interrogation scene which should have been fully awesome, but his voice is kind of funny. And while I'm used to it now, I still feel like he sounds like Donald Trump when he talks to Rachel before jumping off of the building at the end.

It is a fairly logical reason why he uses it, but both Conroy and Keaton used small variations on their speaking voices as Batman and subtly sounded different enough that it could fool someone if they didn't know either identity well (why Vicky Vale got fooled is a good question). But most of all they, especially Conroy, displayed such menace and danger in their voices without trying to make a growl noise.

Bale's Batman voice reminds me a bit like Dirty Harry Callahan's voice.

Kevin Conroy voiced Batman.

Everyone else voiced Bruce Wayne PRETENDING to be Batman, and in some cases trying too damn hard.

Point being, Batman's the real guy. Bruce Wayne is the act. Conroy best demonstrates this, and that puts him at the top of the list.

But that's your personal take on the character. You can't possibly expect these actors, writers and directors to all have the same take on the character, i.e. your one.

ehhhh Maybe in your opinion!!

Indeed. :(

And Kev, while you have a point I'll point out that at least when it comes to Bruce Wayne in public both Keaton and Bale's interpretations fit that description of Conroy's. Still he has the best Bat-voice, though.

Conroy is overrated. As is virtually everything B:TAS related. Best Bat-voice my ass ... haha

Bale's boring voice? No ... Bale took the voice somewhere. He did something genuinely interesting. Keaton whispers, Conroy is just talking in a fake ass Barry White voice. Christian Bale's Batman is a BEAST.
