Battlefield 3

A pilots success rating appearing above the copter when they enter it would be fantastic. The crashes were amusing the first week I played on multiplayer but now they're just sad.

Yep, I only ever crash a chopper on purpose if its empty.. and if I wanna take an enemy by surprise I aim it towards them & pitch forward hard & bail out at the last second.

Auto-pilot would be nice, for example if you had a pilot that wanted to bail out he activates auto-pilot & the chopper will keep going in a straight line or if hes going in circles it will continue to go in circles.. then a warning if your pilot has left his seat OR if the pilot jumps out the next qualified pilot immediately takes over.

Arma II has that, it works pretty well.
You can also plot points on the 2d map and the helicopter/plane will automatically fly to it.

I've been in a few games where a team has won because they crashed their copter into the crate/node/whatever-that-thing-is-you-have-to-blow-up-in-Rush.

Good times.

I'm probably alone in wanting a return to WWII.... :(

Eh, i wouldnt complain about returning to a time period before Red Dot scopes and under-rifle grenade launchers and lock on surface to air missiles. Its one of the reasons why i enjoy the Vietnam DLC so much, much more reliant on skill than advanced weaponry.

Iv never had a problem with WWII shooters, IMO, theres only 3 worth playing. CoD2, Brothers in Arms: RTH30 and BiA: EiB. So i really never got fatigued of the setting, but im also a WWII history buff so that might give me a bias.

Some of those things are ridiculously out in the open & are easily covered by decent snipers, I tend to use a rocket launcher on the difficult ones if my team is getting destroyed.

Me and a friend will sometimes put a bunch of C4 on a UAV, fly it to the crate, and just blow it up. I really do love all the different ways a team can win a game.

It would be nice if games started using sniper rifles like Red Orchestra than the 2d black circle and crosshair. The feature of changing iron-sight for close range also seems like a pretty good idea as does the delayed scope effect at the edges, although i'm not sure if that's how it works on more modern sniper rifles.

Gears of War does something similar. I wish all shooters gave you the option of aiming sniper rifles without having to look down the scope.

Sniping was my favourite aspect of BFBC2, nothing more rewarding than landing a headshot from 1000 yards on a moving target. Much more realistic than CoD's sniping, what with the bullets dipping & the impact delay.

I'd like to be able to keep the sniper scoped though, perhaps go prone & set up a little tripod, I want to be able to fire the weapon & then be able to watch my enemy get hit.

Being able to set up tripods on the sniper rifles and saw's would be really cool. I hope they lessen the accuracy for the saw's as well tho, those weapons are for suppression, not distance targeting.

If this franchise were to "borrow" anything from Call of Duty, I would like it to be the ability to throw back live grenades.

Agreed concerning the throwing grenades back.

If it is 'borrowing' from CoD I wouldn't mind:

Knife/tomahawks :)

Theatre mode

More customization of your character, guns, gear/clothing based on your teams affiliation

Aside from those I like everything else BF has in comparison to CoD.. I would say perhaps add in those nice dives/rolls to quickly escape fire/get cover.

For BF3 they just need to look at what they've done in BF2 & its expansions in addition to BFBC2.. If they included some of the things that they left out of BFBC2 from BF2 they'd be on a winner with me.

I'd prefer prone rolling like Arma 2. Along with vegetation that reacts.
I also dumped a clip of auto-hover on to show you what I mean, the helicopter remains level with no crazy crashing. Freelook would also be nice.

Yes. Everything in that video.

Wasnt Arma II supposed to hit consoles? Whatever happened to that?

I only recently got into Battlefield (Bad Company 2). Excellent game! The gameplay is already great, maybe they can improve on aerial combat & take the graphics to the next level.

I highly suggest picking up the Vietnam DLC.

I bought all the DLC for this game about 2 weeks ago  Certainly deserves the extra bucks!

Good point though, the graphics for Vietnam are definitely better than a lot of the blander multiplayer maps. I hope Battlefield 3 can be a market leader in this area as it's not one of those kill or get killed every 2 seconds on small maps with few distinctive features type games. The scale of the maps..the distance from spawn points to final objectives is often far enough that there is plenty of time to appreciate them in even more highly rendered glory!

Wow.. that game looks pretty sick. The movement anyway looks very realistic, as does the rolling & surroundings.. might have to see if I can rent this anywhere to give it a whurl.

Not sure how you would "rent it". Arrowheads probably the better option, Arma II story mode tries to add narrative like a Call of Duty game and just falls out. Arrowhead plays more like Delta Force or Ghost Recon were you just get dumped on a map with objectives, it's like Rainbow 6 or Ghost Recon before they become rubbish in a massive 200km environment, with battlefield style vehicles as opposed to solely playing on foot. Saying that though, outside of the main game, Arma II also has about 10-12 single mission scenarios which can take about 10-12 hours to complete on a whole. Both games also have an editor which is awesome to fart around with even if you don't really know how to properly make missions with triggers and objectives.

The people who do know how to make missions properly upload tons to armaholic, you can get hundreds of hours of the game and as far as i'm concerned, it's really the only decent tactical shooter left. With Operation Flashpoint 2, I might as well have been burning a ten pound note.

Setting it's sights on Call Of Duty?
That, doesn't sound good.

As long as they dont become CoD, there is no problem with that. BF is by FAR the better game and should be recognized as such. Ppl should be lining up blocks away to purchase it, not CoD. But lets be honest, EVERY major publisher is trying to go after that market. Theyre tired of seeing Activision cash those checks every year. Also, thats a bad ass cover.

I cant wait to see what this game is going to bring to the table. I know its going to blow the next CoD away in every possible way.
