Battlefield 3

I think BF3 & MW3 will be tied on my list of favorite games this year (whatever rank they are, right now it's looking like they'll be third after Gears 3 & LA Noire). Reach & Black Ops were tied for my third spot last year.

Well, that is if MW3 is enjoyable like COD4, WAW & BO. & not a POS like MW2.

I'm having alot of fun on the beta. I really like the map, besides the lack of vehicles. You think EA/DICE would of had a map with some vehicles to show what the game really has to offer. If some random player who's never touched BF plays the beta & sees Jets flying over his head & an all-out war with vehicles, I think that'd get their attention.

It seems pretty obvious why they chose the map they chose. The average bro will say "that looks like Call Of Duty" as it's like an aids epidemic that can't be controlled. Call Of Duty uses tight linear simplistic maps with instant gratification. They don't want a Call Of Duty bro running around a huge map aimlessly occasionally getting a kill every 5 minutes. Hell, even games that have nothing to do with Call Of Duty like Skyrim are basicaly using perks, as thats what Call Of Duty bro's like. Classic games (that are far better than Call Of Duty) that have nothing to do with FPS are being dug up, raped and turned into lame FPS because that's what Call Of Duty bro's play. The problem with this attitude is that you are basically going to have Call Of Duty bro's playing Battlefield just to run around shooting to get unlocke rewards. It's not a deathmatch game nor is it suppose to be a carrot dangling game. I suspect the single player, regardless of the beautiful graphics we have seen, will basically a wack-a-hole, look at this scripted sequence Call Of Duty clone.

I agree completely.

But who cares about the SP any way. I dont care how whack a mole it is, I'm not buying BF3 for the SP.

I liked multiplayer a lot more before it turned into an level progression epidemic.

EA is fixing these issues found in the Battlefield 3 open beta

The Battlefield 3 open beta isn't just for fun and war games. EA has been listening to feedback from players and the Battlefield Blog now has a list of the most important fixes that will be in the game's final version (with a full list in the Battlelog news section):

Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
Tweaked the Rank progression.
Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
Framerate stability fixes.
The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target's visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
Non working options in squad menu fixed: "Private" flag and "Switch Teams."

It's nice that they are being so transparent about what is being fixed. If anyone with an Origin account can log into the battlelog, I'm curious to read the full list.

The community mgr over at DICE has already confirmed the final build of the game is way ahead of the beta build. Like i thought, people where getting bent out of shape for nothing.

Depends who you're talking about. Personally, I have no doubts these glitches won't be present in the final build of the game. That's not where my issue lies.

My issue is that EA is trying to make BF3 the COD killer, yet the only demo they release to the public is completely sub-par. A lot of my friends are COD fiends and I've been hyping up BF3 to them for ages trying to get them to check it out, and when they check out this beta, there's nothing there that's going to wow them. It's just a huge missed opportunity on EA's part IMO.

Yeah it doesn't give the best first impressions.

I believe the final build is better but like Balthus noted first impressions are key.

If people base ALL of their assumptions of the game on the one Beta level, they're a fool to themselves since we've all already SEEN some amazing looking levels in gameplay vids. We've seen the vids of Jet combat and tanks and the bigger levels... We already know what it's capable of.

Instead of using a beta to wow COD playing friends, you'd be better to show them Bad Company 2. If they don't like that, they probably won't like Battlefield 3.

Seriously, **** capture point A on the first part of the map. It's like quicksand over there. I've seen whole squads disappear in there lol. I'm pretty damn addicted to this game though. The flashlights and laser lights are a pretty cool touch, but a total pain in the ass when you're on the receiving end of one. I can also see it being an excellent tool for trolls sense they work on teammates.

Oh i agree. I think giving players the Call of Duty inspired Op Metro was a HUGE mistake. Hell i think that map was a mistake period, as its easily the worst map iv played in a BF series.

Like Wolvie said, want your buddies to try BF3, hand them BF:BC2, if that doesn't go over with them, BF3 won't either.

I would love for BF to topple CoD, but at the same time i dont. I dont want the influx of CoD brats coming into BF. I truly hope this Beta keeps them away.

There's already a CoD killer. Its called Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

The best part of the map is the third area... the building to building stuff is the most fun. Hahah my squad was on like the third floor of a building and we saw another squad was in the building next door, and there was an enemy squad they were coming up on hahah we had a three-way firefight, it was badass.

Sadly coz of the placement of the third B charge it's almost impossible to get to.

It's not a CoD killer, but Battlefield is a much more immersive experience largely thanks to the sound. The snaps and pops of gunfire create such a tense atmosphere lol, that's one department DICE has locked down. But really the thing is that everytime I play CoD I'm either destroying the other team, or getting frustrated watching kill cams that don't make sense. Battlefield does have moments that don't really add up too but it feels a lot more fair. Running and gunning just doesn't work in this game, there's a strong emphasis on team work and patience and that's why it's not really a question of "CoD or Battlefield?". Just play what you enjoy.

I didn't think the map was that bad... The first bit was kinda annoying though, when getting used to the game display etc and getting sniped... The layout and directions of the map wasn't that obvious or clear, but I really liked both the tunnel section and the third area.

I didn't think the map itself was bad, the diffrent area's allows you to use diffrent type of weapons as you move on from area to area. Visually it changes alot of well. Not many levels do that.

The layout and directions of the map wasn't that obvious or clear, but I really liked both the tunnel section and the third area.

Dude, you basically move forward. It's a big line.

yeah, I know that now that I've played more, but when I first joined in, the game had already started and we were defending and I didn't have any time to figure out where enemies were spawning from or attacking from or how wide and long the map was before getting killed. It was clear once i had a go at attacking though.

I think the visual change is one of the main things that appeals to me. I love the atmosphere in the tunnels when you're just waiting for the enemies to come

My favorite part of the Tunnel was my first time defending it. I ran down to the side that leads to a big gaping hole and I came to that wall of plywood that's there. There was a guy ahead of me, peeking through a gap in the wall. Suddenly the plywood got ripped to **** as a squad of soldiers came blazing through with their guns, mowing down the soldier peeking through. It looked sooo badass that I didn't even mind dying.

This seemed to be at it's peak last night. I usually saw a little bit under the world during previous play sessions, but last night I was sinking all the way in multiple spots and getting stuck down there with other poor souls trying to kill themselves with grenades.

Point A is the worst, though. Basically the entire area is a giant sinkhole into the light purple void and is extremely difficult to get out of. On the bright side, if you look around enough while you're stuck there, you can find that weird glitchy piece of geometry that sometimes shows up as the killcam.

Lol Geo, looking at your Avvy, I just pictured Al Pacino playing the beta and getting furious at all the bugs. That's made my night :P

Only thing that really bothers me are the server problems :p

I hope there is an option to lock the HUD in the final game. I don't like how it wobbles around when you move.

Yeah, but you're assuming everyone checks forums or online videos like we do, and that's just incorrect. Many people I know who are gamers still don't bother to check out online videos and stuff, so they wouldn't know any different. Instead, they'd form an opinion based on a crap ass beta release.

Perhaps a better idea would've been to polish the beta a bit more and release it later, say either during the retail release or slightly before. It's just dumb to put out something that clearly doesn't live up to what BF3 is capable of.

And Spock was spot on when he said (and I'm paraphrasing here) that EA shouldn't have gone for instant gratification gameplay in the beta. COD wins in that category; there's no point in putting out a beta that plays like COD. The whole point of BF3 is that it isn't COD...it doesn't play like COD. They should've played that up rather than releasing a watered down beta.

Well, to be perfectly frank, if gamers are not doing anything to be aware of any new games then they miss out on games. Simple as that. I mean, if someone is only aware of gaming content as it appears on the Xbox Live Dashboard, then they'd probably only be finding out about any games in a couple of weeks prior to release. I honestly don't think a large number of gamers operate like that, and the ones that do are most definitely fixed gamers who ONLY play COD or ONLY play Halo or something like that. That isn't going to change. BF 3 isn't going to pull those people over and I think EA know it... However, all the indecisive gamers out there on COD, gamers who ARE more aware, perhaps growing weary of the Call of Duty style, THEY are the ones who are more likely to be swayed.

And seriously, if they released the Beta any later, it would be a week before the game actually released.

Well, to be perfectly frank, if gamers are not doing anything to be aware of any new games then they miss out on games.

The problem in that seems to be the gaming media, which is were alot of people get there information. Rather than being objective and reviewing or giving all games equal coverage they are glorified advertisements for the games with the most money thrown behind them. Even this game, if you say gamespot last week they proposed to have a Battlefield 3 tournamen. It was so obviously a PR job trying to turn it into an imporant event. They were basically colluding with EA.

Interestingly, youtube users creating there own video's seems to be giving advertisment for games that normally wouldn't get any attention. totalbiscuit in particular seems to actively promote indie games with usually about a quarter of a million views on each video. Alot of indie games only need a couple of thousand units sold to be successful. IGN, gametrailers, g4 and other big sites generally almost totally ignore there existence.

Valve should also gets props, they allow smaller unknown developers they latch on to there well known IP's. Team Fortress 2 usually has hat promo's for games that have nothing to do with Valve. Portal 2 had some weird alternate reality game that involved collected potatoes by specifically buying and earning them in indie games.

I don't know about Sony but it's pretty clear Microsoft couldn't give a flying fart about indie games. In general, it seems the industry would rather you were all gun tooting yeee haw! hicks who play FPS all day.
