Is anyone playing this on XBOX Live ? It keeps telling me The connection with EA Online was lost

Yeah, the sever connection has been busted on 360 since this morning, I've been getting errors all day.

I haven't had any connection problems on the pc. I managed to get into Caspian Border for about 5 minutes because I was booted. This map is password protected but it's basically leaked all over the internet within 5 minutes of the password being given out. The diffrence in scale is night and day. This is probably the map that should have been put out.

Thats awesome man. Was it you that posted that 20 min video of the Caspian Border gameplay? Any way, it looked incredible. I agree, i think thats the map they should of gone with.

I'm sorry, but I absolutely can't believe that EA would even consider releasing such a garbage beta. I know that it's only a beta and blah blah...but this is seriously horrendous. There's sooooooo many glitches I just can't believe it. You can't even quit a game without getting frozen on a load screen....you have to dashboard to stop playing.

Not only that, but there's absolutely zero tutorial/hint/helps and there's no way to even look at WTF the controls are...not even in the options menu. Again, it's a beta...but are they serious? If you're going to make duck/prone a right analog click, grenade LB, and melee RB, maybe it'd be a good idea to put that info somewhere....

Yes, this is a beta. Yes, I'm sure many changes have been fixed. But seriously, this was a horrible idea IMO. I was insanely excited for this game and my enthusiasm has been crushed to bits because of this garbage. It had the exact opposite effect of what the BF:BC beta had on me, which made me go out and buy the game.

Oh, and no vehicles in the beta level = epic fail.

I can't even explain how awesome this beta is so far! Sure there are some bugs, but they'll be fixed.

I can't stop playing! :D

I really have to agree. I sincerely hope this build is from months and months ago because there is so much wrong with it.
- My default gun switches randomly for the assault class, between one good one and one bad one.
- You clip through the ground at point A, like a lot.
- Aiming down the sights randomly stopped working in the middle of a firefight, LT just stopped working.
- I died while arming the point and the "Hold B to Arm" text stayed on my screen my entire next life.
- All the text/images in the subway are blurry and distorted the further away you get, if you get right on a poster it'll slowly get clear again.
etc..

Again, I hope this build is a really old one, because if all these issues are current, than they aren't getting fixed before release. If that's the case I hope they have a big release day patch planned.

I am definitely rethinking getting this day one, which is a bummer.

it's a beta...but are they serious? its NOT A CALL OF DUTY CLONE?????? someone call the WHAAAaaaaambulance

Its the same control scheme as BF:BC2 with the added prone.

Although i do agree, it buggy as ****, and needs fixing.

Both Balthus and Geo are right. The Beta is bugged to hell and back. Op Metro is also a really poor map to showcase the game with. It has nothing to do with them being(or not being CoD fans). I think BF:BC2 completely embarrasses the garbage that is CoD and i think BF3 will do the same, but even i can see how choppy this build of the game is. Im making my decision based more off the excellence of BC2 and not this Beta. Dice delivered a phenomenal experience there and they will do the same again, ugly beta or not.

However, thats why this is a BETA. These problems can be reported to DICE so they can correct them before the game goes Gold, or work on them up until release, putting out a day one patch.

Overall this is just a really poor demo of the game in comparison to the Gears of War 3 Beta.

Are you kidding me?? Nowhere in my post did I even mention COD. I've played BF games in the past, and if you actually read this thread I've been a BF3 supporter ALWAYS. So, you can get lost with that garbage.

Most standard FPS games use RS for melee and B for duck and RB for grenade. I'm coming off Medal of Honor, not COD, which is also an EA/DICE game like BF3 and uses that same scheme. So, it's hardly unreasonable to not instantly know BF3's controls when they are very different. And I'm not even saying different is a bad thing, either....just put a list of the controls on an options screen like every other videogame in the universe.

I've put a few more hours into the beta, and once you get past the insane bugs it's actually fun. But to think that they released this to the general public as a way to promote their game is just insane. If this had been any other game and I'd based my opinion of this beta/demo, I'd have stayed the hell away from the retail release.

Like Geo said, I sincerely hope this is an insanely early build of the game. Otherwise...:o

Well the controls are IDENTICAL to BC2. If you played that(which, you should of been playing over both CoD and MoH) then you woulda been able to jump right in.

As for the build. As with most demos, I'm assuming its prob a month or so old.

Works almost perfectly fine here. I did notice abit of lag now and again but overall I haven't been having any of the problems other people seem to be having. I did see a tank flying, that was nice.

Hahaha, yeah, at one point I saw a guy get shot and just fly off into the air

I admittedly passed on BC2. But I'm not really trying to complain about the controls themselves (I've actually gotten used to them) I just think a control layout on the menu/load screen would've been a good idea.

As for the build, a month or so old terrifies me with this many glitches. If that's the case I expect a big day one patch.

I've seen that, too. I was moving through the subway tunnel and all of a sudden a dead body goes whizzing past me like it was shot from a cannon. Kinda funny.

I've also had an annoying glitch where the screen turns blue like the pause menu. And there's tons of sound-loop glitches where the SFX get messed up.

When you disarmed a bomb in the alpha it had you having to press a bunch keys like a QTE. Now you just seem to hold down E. It's far the better really, it was just anoying. The flash-light attachment now protects circles as well, in the alpha it would only glare when you looked directly at it. The original level was also alot very misty and alot brighter in the starting garden area, it was kind of hard to see 10 feet in front of you. They seem to have changed the over-all lighting. It's pretty clear they are listening to user feedback and making some hefty tweaks to the game.

I am going to presume they used Metro as the beta map in an attempt to get Call of Duty players attracted to the game. It plays nothing like other Battlefield maps and it's tight, linear and simple nature seems to have more instant gratification and accessibility in mind. In the end, it's probably abit of a blunder move as Call Of Duty's accessibility and instant gratification is better in both regards. Negative rather than postive word of mouth will be passed around. On Caspian Border there was quite alot of running around, it's not linear at all. It's basically a huge open map that seems to go right into the horizon.

Metro isn't a bad map, smaller maps will obviously add some variety, not everyone likes running around for minutes at time or wants to do that all the time. But at the same time, it's not what Battlfield is about.

Quick Look: Battlefield 3 Beta

In this, Jeff revealed that a producer of the game told him this build is a "few weeks old" and that the game has not gone gold yet.

Also, it's funny watching glitches happen to other people. :)

Even though the beta map isn't stellar, the subway tunnels can be pretty fun to push through. I was hoping for a bit more environment destruction, though, because that could really change how you proceed through the level. Some of the walls blow up but others where I thought I'd get strategic just stayed in place.

The attachments on the weapons work amazingly. I find it so cool when someone comes toward you with a flashlight and it basically blinds you; it's very realistic. It's this kind of thing that I'm trying to base my opinion of the game on rather than the "meh" map and buggy glitches.

They really should've included a vehicle for the beta, though. That's one of the biggest BF draws.

Yea its why i say Op Metro was a terrible choice to set the Beta in. Thats NOT a BF map. Maps like BC2's Harvest Day is a BF map, or the Caspian Border from this game.

I say stop playing the Beta and go pick up BC2. If you like that, you'll like BF3, if not, then id look elsewhere.

Even if the game goes Gold in the next week or so, they can still work on all the bugs and hit us with a day one patch(which i assume is what they are going to do, considering the Beta ends 15 days before the game comes out)

The alpha version had a vehical on it but it was abit out of place.
Could only be used in the opening section as well.

Yea i couldn't see a vehicle fitting in well here.

The more it think about it, the more i really dislike Op Metro. I dont think there was a map that small in BC2?

I don't think so. Even when they were fairly small like Port Valdez, they were still kind of open.
Metro feels very linear and direct.

Well hopefully there are less Op Metros and more Caspian Borders.

Altho maybe they are trying to move towards smaller maps? The Vietnam expansion had some pretty tight maps as well.

I'm not sure, Caspian Border wasn't lnear at all. Once thing that was good about Metro was the shogun, it's kind of useless in the big enviroments but in the tunnel with close up encounters it was pretty fun blasting people.
