This movie was actually made using deleted scenes from the 3 Transformer movies.

Why are ppl not allowed to enjoy flicks like this? "Popcorn flicks" have been around since the beginning of cinema, some would say they are what cinema was originally created for in the first place. It's not like the makers of this film set out to create Saving Private Ryan and by the end of it said, "Oh crap, we ****ed up. Here's Battleship instead, guys". This film was made to be exactly what we're seeing and it looks pretty awesome.
I know a lot of ppl are excited for John Carter, but that has a series of books to back up its "quality", so to speak. If it wasn't based on any form of literature, it looks just as "silly" as this movie does.
That to me right off the bat says hey....we know this movie will suck. Why? Poor Liam Neeson...what has happened to you!?Even if movies just want to be popcorn action flicks, bad acting is bad acting and bad dialogue is bad dialogue.
Just because a movie is a "popcorn action flick" doesn't mean it gets a free pass. Unless it's so bad it's hilariously entertaining.

^get liam neeson and Rhianna on the cast
Because the studio heads saw $$$$$ when this was pitched as Transformers at sea.
See, that analogy might work if it actually had Transformers in it. But it doesn't. Transformers is a proven successful franchise in film. Battleship is not. In fact, the connection is so vague, I can't see how anyone would connect the two.
So, this is a rather reckless 200 million dollar gamble.
But the robots in the Transformers movies had hardly any development so you don't really care for any of them (except Bumblebee and Optimus). So it was mainly the spectacle that drew audiences. I mean most the aliens in this movie look like they came straight out of the Bay movies. Only thing missing is the humans getting into their mech bots and fighting them off.
