This movie was actually made using deleted scenes from the 3 Transformer movies.

It basically looks like TF4 so I'll catch at the cinema to get the most out of the big set pieces.

Looks very much like Transformers but still looks somewhat interesting if only for a way to waste an hour or two on an off day. Im actually surprised by how much rihanna has not been sucking in these trailers I thought forsure she would stick out the way Blake Lively did on the GL trailer.

This movie has one of the honors of being incredibly worthless in the actually very long trailers before...

..and looking so cool in a the SB trailer...

funny marketing for this flick, looks like i may check it out afterall.

The superbowl tv spot looked pretty eye catching. It gives you just enough of the kind of action that we know we enjoy..

Why are ppl not allowed to enjoy flicks like this? "Popcorn flicks" have been around since the beginning of cinema, some would say they are what cinema was originally created for in the first place. It's not like the makers of this film set out to create Saving Private Ryan and by the end of it said, "Oh crap, we ****ed up. Here's Battleship instead, guys". This film was made to be exactly what we're seeing and it looks pretty awesome.

I know a lot of ppl are excited for John Carter, but that has a series of books to back up its "quality", so to speak. If it wasn't based on any form of literature, it looks just as "silly" as this movie does.

People do. I do. I saw this movie though, 3 times.

There's original, then there is unoriginal, then there is this movie.

I would give movies like this at least a shot if they didn't fill them with crap actors like Rihanna  That to me right off the bat says hey....we know this movie will suck. Why? Poor Liam Neeson...what has happened to you!?

^she does'nt even look bad in the film tho so i cant put that against them

yeah i dont know why people look down on movies like this it looks damn entertaining and eye candy for days some bad ass action and cool looking bad guys

the studio is not marketing this movie as something its not

Even if movies just want to be popcorn action flicks, bad acting is bad acting and bad dialogue is bad dialogue.

Just because a movie is a "popcorn action flick" doesn't mean it gets a free pass. Unless it's so bad it's hilariously entertaining.

This.

It depends how seriously the movie takes itself.

well tons of Arnold's film had bad acting and cheesy dialouge but most people love them for it!!!

True. But they also had charm... and Ahnuld. :D

Point is, I really do like these cheesy blockbuster action movies. I think everyone should like them. It's about having eclectic tastes. One day i could watch a slow burning indie movie like... I dunno, Valhalla Rising. The next? Con ****ing Air!

But this movie just looks bad to me, even as a cheesy blockbuster action movie.

And a movie that has a budget of over 200 million is certainly taking itself seriously. Well, it should be.

How exactly do you get 200 million dollars for a movie based on a board game?

^get liam neeson and Rhianna on the cast

and peter berg directing lol

Because the studio heads saw $$$$$ when this was pitched as Transformers at sea.

See, that analogy might work if it actually had Transformers in it. But it doesn't. Transformers is a proven successful franchise in film. Battleship is not. In fact, the connection is so vague, I can't see how anyone would connect the two.

So, this is a rather reckless 200 million dollar gamble.

But the robots in the Transformers movies had hardly any development so you don't really care for any of them (except Bumblebee and Optimus). So it was mainly the spectacle that drew audiences. I mean most the aliens in this movie look like they came straight out of the Bay movies. Only thing missing is the humans getting into their mech bots and fighting them off.

47 ronin a Japanese samurai epic got 200 million aswell

it is not what is in the movie but how you pitch it to studios

While I don't disagree with spectacle and lack of development, they did have considerable name recognition. Everyone who was alive in eighties knew what Transformers was. It had millions of fans. I question if spectacle is enough here.

I'm just amazed they would give such a budget to such a movie.
