While I am by no means a Michael Bay apologist, I wholeheartedly agree that no one is more fit to bring the necessary style for Transformers to the big screen. Say what you will about the designs - he'll at least shoot those designs better than anyone else out there. With all the arguments going on right now - whether it be over story, characters, or designs - I think a lot of people are failing to realize how amazing this film will look, at the very least.

Transformers obviously defined the 80s for an entire generation. At least in my eyes, Bay exudes perfectly what defined movies of the same period. He still shoots with that sun-kissed, Top Gun sheen - that sense of cool Americana that I associate so much with the 80s, and subsequently, Transformers. In that sense, while the designs may not look exactly the same, that glorified look of 80s film nostalgia will remain.

Bay may not be the best fit for the fanboys - but I honestly believe that Kurtzman and Orci are. We also have a guy named Steven Spielberg executive producing this thing (who is more hands-on with this project than many of you may know). All these things combined, I'm willing to look past the new concept designs and instead, focus on how incredible they'll look in a Bay environment on screen.

With that in mind, I've taken all the relative screen caps I could (from nearly all of Bay's films) that could be considered somewhat Transformer-esque - cars, aircraft, landscape, etc. - to try and give a glimpse of what's in store for us come July 4. Hopefully this'll get the excitement flowing again...

I could DEFINITELY live with a Prime that looks like this:

not that I have beef with the current design...cept for the flames.

I think Optimus Prime's robot mode is hands-down totally inspired. AND for the most part so is his character portrayal in the script. HOWEVER, that is pretty much where it competely stops. EVERYTHING else about this movie... including the ludicrously LAME and UNINSPIRED script plus the totally PARODY alt-modes (including Prime's) is total and complete craptitude that will put this movie in the harrowed annals of ID4, Armageddon, Godzilla and the like. It's complete crap (based on what we know) IMHO. I always thought TRANSFORMERS belonged in the halls of great sci-fi like Terminator and the like.

But I guess it's was just a crappy kids cartoon. Ce le vi. :whatever:

P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong but every single "disaster" shot above that is suppossed to evoke NEW YORK CITY is a total CARTOON. It's total crap. Not only does it get every single vibe wrong (background, street signs, etc), but it's so vapid that 18,000 people could have died in those shots and it wouldn't MEAN A DAMN THING.

bay is a moron..but i think the look of his movies are really good, shame that only that part of his brain works.

That is truly disheartening to hear. From what I gather from a lot of people here this movie will turn out to be all visual and zero substance. Hopefully I'm wrong and I'll love it...but a lot of this points to a pretty movie that falls flat story/character-wise. I was really hoping for a new sci-fi franchise that rivaled that of Star Wars or what The Matrix could have been if they stuck to the same formula as the first movie.

I guess a lot of people are happy with what they are going to get though. They want "big ****ing robots" destroying everything...who cares about story and character development right? I mean, it IS based on a toy-line so who needs substance? And that's what a lot of people want. I guess my expectations are too high.

"Look" doesn't always equate with emotion. As many reviewers have noted, soldiers being chopped to death by a ships propellers in Pearl Harbor looked COOL... but it wasn't harrowing or provoking (in a Saving Private Ryan sort of way). Similarly, in Armageddon, when an astronaut in the very first scene meets his maker... it also looks COOL but the Challenger and Columbia disasters PROVED what real tragedy looks like.

Bay doesn't even know how to begin to capture that sort of emotion (unlike GOOD directors like Spielberg, Cameron, Scott, and Zemekis). No, the guy is just barely above Uwe Bowl territory.

But he's Uwe Boll with pull.

In regards to my post above about what most people want...here's a prime example...

regardless of how good or bad the designs look....we are going to get amazing robot action....and thats what i care about the most. I have been waiting since i was born to see a big budget mech movie. I just want to see bad ass robot on robot action. And Bay will more thne deliver.

And that's all we'll get out of this movie I predict...lots of action, pretty images and zero substance.

It would be a shame if that is the case. The thing I loved most about TF was how each transformer had there own personality, emotion's, and manerism's. It was how we could connect with them on a human scale. If the TF's dont have there characteristics then they aint TF's, period.

The first few screens i actualy taught there was new transformers teaser 2 screencaps. The space shots that is.

Well, I haven't read the script (half out of not wanting to be too spoiled and half out of not wanting to get pissed off) so I don't know the extent of character development they have planned for the Transformers...I bet there's a whole lot more human character development though.

The only TF that shows any form of emotion is [BLACKOUT]Bumblebee when he is captured by the army, according to the script he makes frightend wimpers.[/BLACKOUT]
