I will gladly put this show against any other espionage drama that has ever graced the small or big screen. Smart, tense, and unnervingly topical, the show balances thrilling spy stories with just as compelling character drama. And all of this with a subtle sense of cool. Simply put, it's the best show you've never even heard of.

why is it called Spooks?

Because thats what they are. This is a great show and i can't wait for series 6 to start on BBC1 in september, i just wish Matthew Macfayden's Tom Quinn would come back.

So...I finally caught up to all 56 episodes of the series, thus far.

I'm going to make this short and sweet: if you haven't watched this show, you haven't experienced life. It's as simple as that.

The single greatest spy drama ever put to screen; that includes anything Bond, Bourne, Ryan, etc, etc, etc. No series or film has ever combined this amount of grit, realism, topicality, and unrelenting intensity. And simply put, no series has ever taken this many risks.

What makes Spooks so brilliant, besides its balance of relevance and riveting storytelling, is the fact that the show holds no punches and takes chances that no other drama on television has ever had the balls to take. Main characters actually die.

Is there anything more boring than watching a show where its characters are put through constant peril only for the viewer to know that in the end they’ll be fine? In Spooks, that ticking time bomb might actually go off. That terrorist holding a gun to a fan favorite operative? He might actually shoot. The show creates a sense of tension that is unmatched and unrivaled. Every episode presents a genuine threat, not only to the innocent bystanders and civilians, but to the many characters we root for to "get the job done". No other series has presented the lives of espionage agents this vividly, with this much pathos and authenticity.

I'm not going to recommend this show to those who haven't watched it. I'm simply going to tell you: you need to watch this f***ing show right f***ing now. It will change your life.

I really like the first few seasons. But when they basically got rid of all the characters from the early seasons I quit watching. The new lead characters just didn't hold my attention as well.

spooks is brilliant, and i cant wait for code 9.

I've been wanting to get around to watching the damn show but just haven't had time. Ugh. Will definitely need to head down to rent the series sometime soon.

As much as I want to like the show, I havent been able to sit through an entire season since the first. I wish they would do more of a season-arc, rather than individual stories.

The show becomes far more serialized in its later seasons, especially in Season 6.

Even still, I enjoy the "threat of the week" with character development nature of the series; focusing on multiple security threats and world issues instead of pumping out ten episodes around one major issue.

I actually liked the first episodes of Season 6, with the whole virus plotline, but once it delved into some secret British "Area 51", I lost interest. If they had stuck with the virus plotline throughout, I would of been more interested.

The silly Area 51 episode was just that: an episode. It was never dealt with again.

Sorry if i've raised a dead thread and missed a live one... did a search this seemed to be the best thread for the show.

Used to watch spooks way back in the day, BBC Iplayer has meant i've been able to watch the latest season... and i'm sooooo ****ing glad i have.

Just watched tonights penultimate episode of the season... my reaction afterwards --->:wow:

(Big spoilers below)
They killed Ben! CONNIE!!!!!!!! sliced his neck open, holy ****... didn't expect that, your comment about the main characters being killed whenever they feel like it is very accurate CMILL

Gotta wait a week now to be able to see the finale... which looks cracking.

I'm actually enjoying this season. Still a few episodes behind though (the beauty of Sky+! :oldrazz:)

Yeah, the last episode was easily one of my all-time favorites.

Ben's death shocked the hell out of me. I kept thinking he was going to get out of there and warn the others. Not get his neck cut. :(

This entire season has been astounding. Best show on television.

To be honest...I don't really like shows that kill off main characters...

I dont mind deaths, I just dont like them to be crap.

I didnt like the way Adam died. He just seemed to go out like some punk. Plus, it was so heavily signposted you could guess it a mile off.

i was told he'd died the season before he did.... so imagine my surprise that he hadn't lol

One thing i've noticed with Spooks is that the bring in the dead persons replacement in the episode, or the one before, the die.

I thought it was a more than fitting ending for the character, actually. He died a hero on Remembrance Sunday.

If you want to talk about piss poor character exits, Zaf got the shaft. Dude is captured, and we don't learn that he died until 8 episodes later. And it's a total "Oh, by the way, that one dude died you know?"

So whos going to replace the two main characters that are leaving so far???

spook's leading characters are becoming more like doctor who.....

still don't get the buzz of the show though, i always prefered bugs from back in the day.
