Beau Garrett has been cast in Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer, which Tim Story is directing for 20th Century Fox, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon are reprising their roles for the adaptation of the long-running Marvel comics series, a follow-up to last year's Fantastic Four. Shooting is under way in Vancouver.

Garrett will play Frankie Raye, a scientist and love interest to Evans' character. In the comic she eventually gains super powers.

The previously-announced Andre Braugher will play a general with the responsibility to capture the Silver Surfer.

Garrett has appeared in "Entourage" and makes her feature debut in Fox Atomic's "Turistas."

FRANKIE RAYE aka NOVA - BIO

Frankie Raye was the stepdaughter of Phineas T. Horton, inventor of the android Human Torch. He became bitter at the announcement of a new Human Torch, Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four. Horton brought Frankie with him as he dug into the spare parts and chemicals he had used to build the Human Torch decades earlier. Frankie was exposed to a canister of chemicals which set her on fire, but instead of being harmed she gained powers similar to the Human Torch's. Horton later placed a post-hypnotic suggestion in her mind to keep her afraid of fire, so she wouldn't use her powers.

By chance, Frankie met Johnny Storm and they began a romantic relationship. She finally discovered what her father had done to her and regained her memories. Under Johnny's guidance, she learned how to control her powers and became an unofficial member of the Fantastic Four. Although Frankie wanted to join the team on their adventures, Mister Fantastic often left her behind due to her lack of experience.

When Galactus returned to Earth, desperate for sustenance, Frankie offered herself to him as a herald in order to save Earth, and for the chance to explore space. Galactus granted her a portion of the Power Cosmic and she departed Earth, without a backwards glance.

Now called Nova, Frankie took delight in finding new worlds for Galactus to feed on, caring little for the lives of aliens. That was, until she met the Silver Surfer. The Surfer did his best to teach her to value all life, finally bringing Frankie to a primitive world and asking her if she would feed it to Galactus. She said she would, only to learn that the Surfer had brought her back in time to a young Earth.

Nova grew reluctant to serve Galactus after this, and he grew tired of her. Galactus finally cast her out, taking the vicious executioner Morg as his new herald. Nova then joined with her fellow heralds – the Silver Surfer, Terrax, Firelord and Air-Walker – in opposing Morg. During the battle, Morg slew Nova with a blast of energy through her chest. Later, the Silver Surfer laid her body to its final rest within a sun.

Back in August we were speculating that the 'head turner' Story and co. were searching for, possibly could be Frankie Raye::cwink:

I guess we can assume that the Surfer and Galactus have a parting of the ways, and Frankie becomes Nova at the end of the flick.

This frees up Surfer to head off into space on his own in search of adventures....in his own franchise of films.

Interesting. It could indeed lead to some sexy Nova action at the end. :woot:

Cool stuff. Though I doubt she'll become Nova.

Her parents chose the right first name when she was born.

they might save the Nova plot for the 3rd movie.

"Andre Braugher will play a general with the responsability to capture the Silver Surfer":I love the sound of that.Imagine the army trying to catch the Silver Surfer, using airplanes,etc....with great F/X...its gonna be awesome...

I have a feeling that FF2 is gonna be a pleasent surprise. One million times better than the first one.

This movie is getting too damn crowded.

But she is on the hot side.

The way I see it, Johnny can either have one girl or 12. Which is more crowded?;)

12 girls is fine as long as they are on the sideline. Just from what I'm reading here Frankie could play a fairly large role. If she's just a girl on the side, no problem from me. If she's another main focus, then theres another focus taken off the 4, and I think enough has been taken off of them as it is. IMO:yay:

Hmmmm.....no sure about this. Earth has no coventional weapons to scratch the Surfer in a urban setting, and basically, only something like a MOAB can even come close to slowing him briefly. I doubt a tactical nuke can even kill him, so let's hope the General is going to come to the FF for help. Surfer is so darn powerful...Galactus imbued him with too much power, which he avioded in othr heralds, and only Morg really stood much of a chance to challenge him.

Keep in mind, you're getting 500+ issues compressed into a few paragraphs. When I was reading FF, Frankie was just Johnny's post-Crystal girlfriend. Sometime when I was in college, John Byrne came along and said: "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we gave Frankie powers." So he created a broader back-story for her and did the whole Galactus story line.

There are a lot of poeple suggesting different story lines from the whole history of the comics: "Maybe Doom will steal the Surfer's powers, maybe Frankie will become Galactus' herald, maybe the Puppetmaster will put in an appearance, maybe Sue will be pregnant and Reed will need to get the cosmic control rod from Annihilus, maybe they'll have the Mole-Man in the opening scene right off the cover of FF #1 . . . "

99% of the speculation probably won't happen (at least in this movie). The FF have a rich history and there are 1000 stories that could be told . . . but I don't see any reason to suspect they'll cram 1000 stories into one movie.

That's what would be great . . . have the military throw everything they've got at him while he barely notices. That would be cool to see on screen.

Hmmm, Beau is hawt but I still dunno how I feel about Frankie Raye, dunno how she fits in the movie franchise... Will wait and see.

Frankie Raye can easily fit into this franchise and it would make a lot of sense. I don't expect to see her as Nova in this movie but I can see her introduction and if Galactus appears at the end as the set up for the 3rd movie, then I can see them exploring Frankie Raye's powers (in the 3rd movie) prior to her becoming Galactus new herald.

Ummm, is this still a Fantastic Four movie franchise?

YES!!!

this is just going to be like the comics. Several more characters and mulitple villains will be introduced etc. in this movie and then hopefully in F4-3 too!!

I have a feeling this movie will be AMAZING!!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Frankie become Galactus' new herald without exhibiting Human Torch-like powers beforehand.
And I definitely can't see all this happening in one film.

:cwink: Of course it is. New additions to the movie does not mean a lot of screen time. And the FF were always one of the front runners for introducing some of Marvels greatest characters. And I honestly believe that Fox is going to make sure that this is handled with care because it is not only one movie franchise they will be concerned with.
