We've got countless threads on titles and characters. Let's talk about the potential storylines that can be exploited. In your discussions, please base your plots on what is known of TDK. Please keep your plots within spoiler text, incase anyone staying away from spoilers wanders in.

Here we go

The basic plot should involve a wide-scale mob war between Joker, Two-Face, and either Scarecrow or a new entry from the rogues gallery. The death of Maroni early on would symbolize the end of Mob's reign and the beginning of the Freaks' rule of Gotham. Its rough, but I'd like to see it boil down to this. Something akin to DV, but obviously without the more "outlandish" rogues like Ivy or Freeze. Beneath this, the strain on Batman and Gordon's partnership should become a big focus, especially with what happened to Dent during The Dark Knight

That's where I see it going also, kinda.

I see this third film being:

The mob's last stand. I don't want to see Batman creating problems, I want to see him react. In the old franchise it seemed like a lot of the problems came about because there is a Batman. I want to see the mob and corruption create problems that need a Batman.

So-
Two new mobsters rise on the scene. It would give a great opportunity to feature Black Mask and the Penguin as well as a "traditional" mobster like Rupert Thorne or Tony Zucco. Have there be an uneasy partnership between the traditional gangster and the more gimmicky one (Black Mask/Penguin). Joker is on the back burner, but still causing trouble. Two-face is at the forefront. I want to see the mobsters unite under these two kingpins to make a last stand for their city against the freaks that have corrupted it. Two-face is on a rampage, killing all of the mobsters that Harvey Dent never was able to convict, Maroni, comeos from the Falcone family, the Viti's, Maroni's sons, etc. In response the traditional mobster orders Rachel's death to get at Two-face. As a result, the gimmicky gangster (Black Mask/Penguin) kills the traditional mobster. It is learned that Black Mask/Penguin had been working with Two-Face the whole time, that's how Dent was able to kill all of these people, know where they were, bypass security, etc.

Batman is caught in the middle as he tries to convince himself that Harvey is beyond saving and he has to stop him.

I'd throw a surprise, ala, Dark Victory, but BIGGER, where after Two-face has eradicated the mob, you think he now owns Gotham, when "you know who" retakes the crown. After all...he is the clown PRINCE of crime.

That's about as detailed as I can get, with the information we have. But I would love to see it as a city-wide, final battle between the mob and freaks with Batman in the middle of it. I want it to end with the mob element gone, but with Batman not really winning either, and I want it called Dark Justice.

Another thing,

Batman becoming a bit more unhinged in this one would be fantastic. A subtle way to show this would be via his fighting style for BB3. The "monster" Alfred warned Bruce about should take over in this one. On the ending, a voice over by Batman about how things are coming into focus-the situation seems to be getting better, but there are still Freaks out there to be dealt with. Joker taking a sucker punch (so to speak) at Two-Face would be great. If anyone wanted to bring him back, there's always Ra's and his Lazarus Pit (I'm banking on there being one. In any case I'm glad Mr. Nolan left it ambiguous. I could see Ra's manipulating someone like Two-Face. Not that I would want to though.

As far as Penguin goes, I'd like something akin to his TLH/DV appearance. Kinda deformed, but not quite as grotesque as Tim's. I will confess that Mr. Burton's approach on Penguin is the definitive characterization for myself.

Also, one of my favorite parts of DV that should be incorporated here is Gordon cleaning up the GPD. The scene on the rooftopt where he's briefing his new recruits and one of them mentions Batman. Gordon was kinda like "well, what about him?"

This would idealy be in the first act somewhere.
