Ben Affleck To Direct & Star In 'Argo'

like what movie my bro

Reindeer Games, Daredevil, Phantoms, Gigli, She's Just Not That Into You, he was subpar in Jersey Girl (and that one hurt 'cause the script was brilliant and his role was meaty imo). And those to name a few. He's just not a good actor, but he's a brilliant director and he comes off like a good guy. I always liked him.

Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms. :oldrazz:

Get with the times, old man. That gag is so old. :cmad:

This is already getting Oscar buzz. Between this, The Master, and possibly Lincoln, it's gonna be crazy.

Seeing it tonight, can't wait and comically I STILL think of this:

It's a more comical take on the operation, I think...

ADDING: Just came back and one word. Awesome!

Great film, tense as hell, well directed/acted. Ben is continuing to rock them out.

Truly recommended.

I just want to know how much you come out of this feeling propagandized to go to war with Iran. That's what the timing of things smacks of to me.

It didn't feel like it was propaganda at all.

Affleck's statement:

"I tried to make a movie that is absolutely just factual. And that's another reason why I tried to be as true to the story as possible -- because I didn't want it to be used by either side. I didn't want it to be politicized internationally or domestically in a partisan way. I just wanted to tell a story that was about the facts as I understood them. And what that meant was probably two people with different political perspectives would walk away with two different interpretations. Because I find, most times, your interpretation depends on what you went into the situation believing. And I think people will use things. You know, it's like, if people want to misrepresent something, they'll do it anyway. You can't worry about that too much."

And there was nothing in the film that went against that. It kept everything on an even playing board. People can interpret it however they want. I think it's very telling that Affleck himself is liberal with liberal friends. It stayed very by the books and one can bring to it what they want. It was in the end a human story about saving these people from this place to bring them back home.

Absolutely outstanding film. Easily one of the best of the year. Ben Affleck is without a doubt one of the best directors on the market.

I m planning to watch it this weekend I heard the last half is quite tense

I'm glad you post the RT ratings here. It proves that Affleck's directorial ability is no fluke, and I think Argo will become one of those films that will be remembered fondly for many years to come.

Damn, all this positive reception really makes me want to see it right now. And, after my recent Breaking Bad obsession, I could use some more Cranston.

At the bar I bartend at we usually watch movies for the first couple of hours as we set up...The Town has been on a few times in the last couple of months and even though we've all seen it, all work slows to a grind as we watch it. It's just that kind of movie, with those kinds of characters.

That said, I'm hugely looking forward to seeing Argo this weekend and what Afleck has delivered this time. Great week...Argo, Dishonored...

He's going to get a few offers for superhero flicks, even if he has been kind of vague about his interest.

Argo f*** yourself!

I just saw it and it was incredible. lol

Yeah, this was just plain great. I mean Jesus, who would have thought Affleck would turn out to be such a great director?

Fantastic movie. Affleck really gave it his all with this one and it shows in the direction and the historical details he implements. One of my favorites of the year.

It kind of was a surprise and kind of not, I think he has had the blood for it for a long time, many forgot he really got noticed for writing Good Will Hunting with Matt back in the day. I think it's just he got swept up in being a "movie star" and did that for a while, then finally went back to what they were good at.

But I admit I was shocked he was so good. I own both his directorial films on blu, and I will own this one too.

This film deserves accolades and it will be remembered.

As I was watching it I got this weird feeling in my filmmaker's conscious saying "See this movie right here! Well, it ain't leaving and it's here to stay."

What a great film. And the Star Wars references with Ben's son just upped the film with subtlety.
