Ben Affleck To Team With DC’s Geoff Johns On Standalone ‘Batman’ Film - Part 3

I dont think you understand just how bad the DCEU's situation is. Black Panther was going to come out on November 3rd of this year; being pushed back 3 months is nothing. Captain Marvel being delayed by 8 months is nothing. It's not even an issue. Meanwhile, JL2 got pushed back for the batman solo. We now don't even know when and if JL2 is happening and the batman solo is at the very least getting a page 1 rewrite and needs to find a new director. The Flash is in the same boat and yet, you think black panther and csptain msrvel being pushed back 3 and 8 months respectively is worse? Lol yeah ok...

Well, yeah. When did I say the MCU situation was worse? Panther and Marvel are at least on track and haven't had any hiccups as far as production goes. When they were shuffled around, that was it. Nothing else. Whereas Batman is getting pushed back, losing a director, rewrites, possibly being moved back again.

So not sure how you think that translates to me saying the MCU was in a worse situation because of its shuffling, but sure.

I'm starting to think this is how it'll go:

Affleck will ultimately step down from playing Batman. The Batman solo will be set in the past with a younger Batman.

Justice League may be Affleck's last film in the DCEU, unless it's a huge success. In which case, he will appear in JL2 and that will be his last film in the DCEU. That way, Affleck fulfills his three-film contract, and WB still gets a Batman film out of the situation. Win-win for both parties.

I don't know, this just seems really messy. I don't know how you go about selling a younger actor playing Batman in a solo film with a second JL film with Ben Affleck coming out afterwards. Unless we just throw our hands up and accept the DCEU is a complete s**t show with no real plan.

Or they could just go Batman Beyond, WB gets the movie and Affleck fulfills his contract.

Batman Beyond is not nearly as memorable to the general public as it is to the hardcore Batman fans.

To do a Batman Beyond film justice there'd need to be a big budget and again it would probably come off as a confusing project to a lot of the general public used to a contemporary Batman.

They're not sidelining Bruce f'n Wayne for a Batman-lite. Not in live-action.

If Ben leaves, so be it. It'll be a huge blow to the DCEU, but life moves on. None of these actors are anywhere near as big as the parts they're playing. And there is certainly plenty of talent in Hollywood to get someone on par or better than Affleck.

If this does happen, I see it happening in two ways:

1) They branch Batman out into its own isolated franchise, and due to the "failure" in this connected universe, all the other properties also slowly grow away from sharing characters/stories. There may be some crossover here and there, but not nearly as much as they've been pushing.

2) Continuity still goes on as normal, but they write the younger Batman into the story canon and establish him as the "new" Batman moving forward. They've several avenues of achieving this (time travel, multiverse, lazarus pit, etc.) given the vast otherwordly stuff that happens in the DC universe regardless. This could be a clever play if they were ever put into the situation. And I can imagine Ben plays nice (all things considered) and helps them achieve this feat.

Whatever the case may be, they're waiting until Justice League. If 2017 is a roaring success, I can just as easily see all the pieces slowly coming together again and Ben/WB extend their relationship in this universe.

Is there any point for Affleck to stay in DCEU? I mean, wasn't the whole point of him playing Batman is that he can direct and star in his take on the big guy?

That's how they sold it to moderate the backlash to his casting when it was first announced.

Even haters at the time agreed him directing could at least be good.

personally I don't think its time to bring Bane back into the fold so soon. Let him rest a little while longer.

http://batman-news.com/2017/02/09/joe-manganiello-rampage-rock-batman

Last week we learned that Ben Affleck would not direct The Batman, and today some more potential bad news has come our way.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Joe Manganiello is in talks to join The Rock in Rampage, a movie about the popular 1980s video game. Rampage is scheduled for an April 2018 release, which means it should begin production this spring/summer. That’s the same time when Manganiello was supposed to start shooting The Batman. He was cast as the main villain, Deathstroke.

If Manganiello has an opening in his schedule to take a big action movie starring The Rock, I think it means that The Batman will not be filming this summer as previously planned. At this point, it looks like the earliest The Batman can start production will be this fall. It still needs a director, and the script is currently up in the air, with new rumors saying they may even be starting from scratch.

it was never gonna film in the spring, we knew that the second affleck stepped down

Well there you go. All of this was moot.

Can't keep up with which rumors originated where.

Did Variety/Kroll confirm Terrio already? So we can assume (from this recent tweet) the new revision is solely from Terrio, and NOT Affleck/Johns?

Apparently WB and Ben Affleck are "very happy" with the current draft of Batman... good to hear. I believe Justin Kroll over Jett from BOF. Especially since he is proven to have connections at WB and is working for a major publication.

Kroll's reliable. I guess they sorted the script out after all.

Now throw a blank check book at Matt Reeves.

Indeed. That earlier report from BoF's Jett was dubious at best. It's no wonder he's faded from relevance since the Nolan Batman era.

Failing Batman-On-Film's Jett spreading LIES to media again! Nasty nasty guy. Dishonest!

Collider even did a topic on Batman having a page-one rewrite and stated it as fact because a Forbes writer said so :funny:

Kroll probably has the most trusted sources out of everyone because he works for an actual trade company and not a blogging site. He was the reason why WB/Ben put out that press release about him stepping down because he called the studio about it after hearing from his source weeks before and wanted to put it out
