Best and Worst Director's Cuts

GOOD:

- Daredevil
- LotR: Extended Editions
- Fantastic Four
- Live Free or Die Hard

BAD:

- Spider-Man 2.1 (complete joke)
- King Kong (could this be any longer?)
- Alexander (This movie is bad enough, leave it alone)

Best: Daredevil, Punisher, LOTR

Worst: King Kong, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture...the last things those movies needed was MORE footage.

This was so much better.

Cool thread...cause I own a copy of Daredevil : extended cut. Its my fave cause its got my fave couple in it. :) yet on the other hand, I like the story and the concept.

^^ Ha. I have my own copy of the director's cut version... mmm Eva Green... no Jennifer Garner... :p

It's film noir. That's the only genre where voiceovers work.

But the studio forced Harrison to do the voice over, so his heart wasn't in it. As a result we got the most boring voice over in the history of cinema.

I still havent seen the three hour cut of Dune.Anyone got that?

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't like The Warriors Director's Cut. And BTW, I meant to put this in Misc. Films.

totally agreed.
he didn't actually add ANY new footage did he? all he did was add those HORRIBLE flash-animated 'comic-book' looking transitions which made the movie look cheap (and ruined the effect of a lot of scenes, especially the original eerie ferris-wheel introduction and the gang's first run in with the baseball furies).
ugh.

I know, I understand if original concept was for it to have a sort of comic book feel to it but that was just ridiculous; then there were some minor scenes they took out that I saw when it was on TV one time, like the original opening.

i had to check to see i bought the right movie when that introduction first came up (the tacky Greek myth bit), i was lucky the store I bought it from let me exchange the director's cut dvd for the original dvd when I realised how they'd butchered the thing.

the first dvd version also took out that tv version 'daytime' opening you mentioned, which I agree weakens the rest of the film since its mostly set at night.

you should definately try The Warriors videogame for PS2 if you haven't already, they really captured the spirit of the movie, expanded the story and the history of the gang (most of the game takes place before the events in the film), and most of the original movie cast return to do dialogue for the game. If you always wanted to beat up that stupid mime/clown-gang from the movie (the Hi-hats) then here's your chance. good stuff.

I hear "Blade Runner: The Final Cut" is good but haven't seen it yet.
It's excellent. I have the five disc DVD with all the versions including the workprint. All the changes are subtle and well done.
